So, so good - Edit
Wow the food was so good, I can't wait to go back. Had the big kale caesar salad with fried chkn on top, very delicious, and side of mac & cheese which was great. Cornbread also hit the spot. We picked up takeout but the place looked very cute inside and out. Highly recommend!

Vegan BBQ sign me up!! - Edit
This food was amazing. I got the bbq plate which came with two side, and then I went back and got cheese cake for takeout. The staff was super friendly and apparently you get a free drink your first time and the lemonade was very good. Igot my food super fast so i image if your in a hurry you might not have much of a problem. I have zero cons to say about this place, can't wait to go back and try more.

Very good food - Edit
I liked them for a while, until they raised their prices right after they were voted best restaurant by yelp. They charged $1 for a tiny packet of vegan hellmans. They need to get a food service size and portion out the condiment containers and they wouldn’t have to charge so much. I like their NC bbq and mac and cheese a lot though. Also the drumsticks are great but overpriced. It’s definitely worth it to get the specials. I also love the kale salad

tasty food that speaks to the soul - Edit
Excellent. Highly recommend.
Read moreLots of quality food that's making me consider faux meat more seriously. I've been vegan long enough that I don't associate the textures of meat with food. But the food I've had here is making me think twice about that, like I just haven't had it prepared correctly before.
Had the BBQ sandwich w/ slaw + shrimp po boy. Both were great and I'll return. It was very good, with just the right amount of sauce. The textures and flavors were very distinct. Prices were very fair and service was quick. Survived the drive home very well.
Pros: good bbq sandwich, good prices, good service

Awesome southern comfort food! - Edit
I’ve dined here a couple of times. The first time I tried the Mac and cheese and cornbread and I was left a little disappointed. The noodles were very overpowering compared to the cheese sauce. I felt like I was eating plain noodles almost. I ended up eating half of my mom’s impossible burger. The second time I came back I went for the soul rolls. Oh my goodness- SO GOOD! They were delicious! Overall, this is a must go to if you are vegan or enjoy vegan food!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Edit
Cornbread is good. Mac and cheese is good if you don’t mind nutritional yeast. The shrimp po’boy was fair. I appreciate that the veggies were on the side, ready to assemble, so that the bread didn’t get soggy. Desserts are okay—PB cookie was a bit dry. I was not a fan of the bbq nor the greens (too vinegary) and slaw. Overall, I think this place gets a lot of hype just for being all vegan but I’ve had much better vegan meals at non-vegan restaurants. 🤷🏻♀️ All the 5 star reviews make me wonder if I just have different standards from other vegans. On the plus side, portions are large and the people who work here seemed very friendly.

The food was great! Large portions at a good price! They usually have a daily special that includes a main dish and two sides. We tried the NC Barbecue plate and the chicken strips plate. Will definitely be back.

Big stars for big portions - Edit
I ordered some delivery from here to be sent to my family in NC and they didn’t disappoint. They said everything tasted great and even the photos made my mouth water. I ordered the NC BVQ plate, the hot honey chikn plate, and the fried “fish” plate along with a slice of sweet potato pie, a lemon cupcake, and the rocky road fudge. I’ll definitely be visiting this place next time I stop through Durham.

Another 5⭐ review to add to the pile - Edit
Lots of clearly-marked gluten free options AND -- and this is a rarity for vegan places -- nut allergens are clearly marked and easily avoidable! Got the shrimp plate with collards and potato salad, all fantastic. Long wait time, but worth it.

How have I not reviewed this place? - Edit
The Pure Soul location in South Durham has a storied history and has passed through a lot of hands, but I'm kind of in love with their current incarnation. Delightsoy chicken products, impossible burgers and both delight BBQ and the locally made BVQ. The Bilbo's greens have been dialed in to perfection, the macaroni and cheese is a noochy dream, I even frequently get the kale Caesar because it's tasty.
Read moreMy go to order here is a drumstix plate, southern fried (they use delight soy so the drumstix are delightsoy wrapped around a small wooden dowel with a yuba skin) and some housemate "honey mustard", with a rotating cast of sides but usually a green (kale Caesar or Bilbo's) and a starch (macaroni, fries, cheese fries). They carry desserts from a local business owner and have hosted food trucks/the vegan ice cream man before. And they're always so kind! It's just a good spot.
Added bonus, pop over to the spice market in the same little shopping center for Indian ingredients and homemade samosas around 1pm on Saturdays.
Thanks for being the GOAT, Pure Soul ❤️
Pros: Entirely vegan menu, Supportive of other local businesses, Reliably tasty soul food
Cons: Can get expensive but isn't too bad, Tucked away in a weird location

Everyone working here was incredibly kind and welcoming. I got the Kind Chkn Plate with mac & cheese and kale caesar salad. The chkn patty was perfectly crispy, and I loved it with some added hot sauce. The sides were delicious too. I can't wait to eat here again!

Best vegan soul food ever - Edit
Don't even hesitate...go eat at Pure Soul now!!!
Read moreSeriously, this is vegan food at its best with family recipes made with love. The soul bowl with hopping john style beans, corn bread, and yellow rice with avocado is so good. My favorite is the Buffalo drumstick plate over yellow rice with corn bread, bilbos greens, mac and cheese and homemade ranch.
You can eat affordably here with specials every day. The plates are a ton of food for the price. The expensive items like the greens are worth every penny to me since they are wonderful and I could never make them close to this good at home.
I could go on and on about how special this place is, but I'll stop with one final note...sweet potato pie!!!
Pros: Vegan food so good you'll wanna cry, Bilbos greens with cholula hot sauce, Friendly staff and easy online ordering

We caught up with a couple of friends in the Chapel Hill area and we all dined with selections from North Carolina’s own version of comfort food. Big thumbs up for the barbecue platter, chkn strip platter, kind chkn sandwich and the barbecue sandwich. I’m giving a special shoutout for the most delicious cornbread I may have ever tasted. Moist with pieces of real corn. I’m a Philly guy and I honestly didn’t expect this fare to compare but I have truly been corrected and I’m comin back for more. #Veganuary

One of a kind vegan restaurant! - Edit
Everything about this place is top notch! The restaurant is loaded with plants, the employees are extremely nice, & the food is in a league of its own.
Read moreThe food is absolutely delicious, the presentation is perfect, the portions are huge for the price, and I wait time was less than 15 minutes. I especially loved the fish. I'm not sure how they did it, but it was the best vegan fish I ever had! The greens are organic, local and absolutely amazing. The BBQ & Mac n cheese was great as well!
Definitely coming back in a couple weeks
