Amazing food made with love - Edit
We were so happy to find this place! Really tasty food and good portions. My partner & I shared an order of tofu bites & a bbq platter (with impossible meat, a 1/2 waffle, broccoli salad, and potato salad). All were super tasty, my favorite was the tofu bites dipped in bbq sauce. Before we left, we chatted with the owner, and she was incredibly nice & you can tell that she was passionate about the food. I’m excited to try more of their dishes!

Amazing Vegan BBQ - Edit
My husband and I have had a lot of vegan bbq but the brisket and the cornbread waffles here at Pure Grit are worth the trip for. The owner told us all about how to make the Brisket and wow, they really put a lot of hard work into making an amazing vegan experience for their customers. Also the Cookies and Iced Teas are a must try! Add this to your list of places to eat in NYC for sure. We will be back!

A must visit! - Edit
Loved visiting Pure Grit BBQ! The food is so good and we were fortunate to be served by one of the owners who was super friendly and helpful.
Read moreWe went for the BBQ main plates, one with the impossible “meat” and one with the mushrooms.
We then tried all the sides.
We would definitely go back if in NYC for longer but will be sure to tell everyone about our wonderful experience at Pure Grit BBQ.
Thanks so much

Amazing! - Edit
Had the buffalo chicken sandwich and Mac/Cheese. Buffalo sauce was spot on and the Mac/cheese had a sweet potato-based recipe that was one of the better plant-based cheeses I’ve had. Service was quick and friendly. A

Great food, friendly people - Edit
This place must be new because I didn’t see it on happy cow last time I was in town. I really don’t understand the critical reviews - I thought everything was delicious and the staff were super friendly. I hope the business sees continued success!
Read moreI enjoyed the impossible cut, salad, beans and broccoli slaw. Mac n cheese was great to me, but wouldn’t fool me for dairy.

Vegan comfort food - Edit
Counter-serve Barb-q and comfort food place near Baruch College, with a bunch of choices. My sense is that people who really know barbeque would not be too impressed—but since I don’t eat real barbeque, what I had tasted fine to me.

Not what I expected - Edit
It’s different. I expected something more like Monk’s or Honeybees (RIP) or Dallas BBQ. Instead it seemed more like BBQ-inspired.
Read moreSmoked Impossible does not taste smoked. The sauce is weak and not like the sweet sauce I’m used to up here. Baked beans were turtle beans and the sauce was also not sweet. Coleslaw had no seasoning. Waffle was completely tasteless and scentless like I imagine eating with COVID is.
I wish the meat were seitan and pulled like Terry used to do. That’s more like non-vegan BBQ of my childhood.
Extra star because they asked for feedback. Always a good sign.
Pros: Owner(?) asked for and was receptive to feedback, Portions
Cons: Lack of flavor, Unusual choices that don’t pay off

Delicious. - Edit
I could eat there everyday and I do because I am the founder! From the smoked mains to the classic sides, no compromising comfort food satisfaction. Surprisingly there are also two amazing salads on the menu.

Loving this saucy smoked meal! - Edit
Newly opened vegan bbq, sandwiches, salads and sides. Close to Madison Park, the Flatiron area & the 4/6 line, this has a great small space and every bite is delicious. We got the Impossible “brisket” smoked main with the potato salad and coleslaw. Also got the open-faced chicken sandwich and a side of fries. Everything is great. So much so we ordered more to go!
