Foodie Heaven! - Edit

This is absolutely my favourite place. It’s a health food shop, and a juice bar, as well as being a small eatery with a lovely selection of food and snacks, whatever the time of day. It just has such a welcoming atmosphere and the smoothies, juices and lovely lunches are always so tasty and you have peace of mind that it’s all so good for you! My favourite has to be the Bliss Smoothie. I wish we had a Primrose closer to where I live. It’s well worth making the effort to get to this place. You won’t be disappointed. As well as all the food and drink options, they have well-being treatment rooms upstairs offering a variety of therapies. Everyone is so knowledgable. This place is a real gem.

Pros: Tasty food, Friendly knowledgable staff, Vegan assurance

Cons: Parking can be tricky at times

The ultimate health shop for all your needs - Edit

Wow. Finally a health shop that caters for all my needs is in Chelmsford! Hooray!

I’m one of these high maintenance types but Primrose always exceeds my expectations . I love the fresh organic smoothies and hot pots. Personal favourite is the avocado smoothie. Yum!

The staff are always super helpful. I’m allergic to some fruits so they always substitute some ingredients to suit my needs

I have seen people comment it is expensive but I’m not sure what they are comparing the prices too. Personally for home cooked fresh organic delicious food catered to my personal needs I think it’s extremely competitively priced. They even delivered to my home for a small charge as I couldn’t get to the shop due to working hours. What a fantastic service ?!

The shop is a little out of town so this means I can always park or I have the added bonus of burning some calories whilst I get my food.

It’s not the largest choice of meals but I always find something scrummy and warming to eat.

I also use the clinic and can say my health has improved dramatically with the knowledge given to me by the team.

I’m so glad Primrose has come to Chelmsford and I look forward to enjoying the food and education I learn from this shop/clinic.

Well worth a visit!

Pros: Delicious fresh cooked meals , Competitively priced , Clinic also available

Cons: Not open Sundays

really limited selection of lunch food - Edit

I have eaten here a couple of times as it is close to my office and I struggle with finding good vegan food on the go. However, the food is extremely limited. They tend to have one hot food option, then a salad. Every time I have been there, the hot food option has been a beetroot curry. This was ok, but not served with rice or another carbohydrate, which meant that I had to purchase something else from another shop.

I have had a salad once, and was impressed with the many different elements included. However, I found that some of the items were not very nice at all, and I left around half of it. The food at the shop is expensive, and when I've spent the best part of £10 on lunch, I absolutely don't expect to be leaving some, or buying things to supplement it.

My other issue with the salad was that I am allergic to cashews. Nowhere on the list of items were cashews (or any nut) mentioned. However, when I started to eat, I noticed them mixed in with one of the items, so I had to leave it. My allergy is not so serious that I would have a reaction from it being in the same box, but I was disappointed that cashews were not listed in the list of items included. When I went to pay, I wanted something sweet, and so had a long conversation about how I couldn't eat cashews so we could find something appropriate. At no moment did she mention that the salad she had in her hands was not OK.

With small vegan cafes, most people expect that there will not be a huge menu. They come because they expect to get genuinely good, nutritious food that they don't have to worry about. The best vegan places I have found tend to offer a fresh soup which can be had as a starter, then two hot mains (plus maybe a cold salad), and a few cakes as pudding. My husband is not vegan, but is quite happy to indulge me by going to a vegan cafe sometimes. However, I wouldn't feel able to take him to Primrose, as the menu feels a bit hit and miss at the moment.

What Primrose are doing is great in many ways. I like the big table, and the sense of community. All of the produce you can buy is helpful, and there isn't anything similar in Chelmsford. However, the menu could use some work. I'd also love to be able to see what was on the menu that day online, maybe on social media? It is a bit out of the way, and I am a little nervous of walking down there when I only have an hour, only to find I can't eat the only option, or it's something I've had a few times before.

Pros: nice shop

Cons: options really limited , need to label food better for allergies.

Health - Edit

Really small store focused on healthy eating. Their cakes are amazing but they have a really tiny range of food I would choose to eat - soups, salads, raw food. They are really expensive too!

Pros: good cakes, healthy, sell stuff on the side

Cons: not great food, expensive , cakes are often hard frozen

Absolute Gem! - Edit

I love this place, the food, the people and the atmosphere. As I suffer with food intolerances Primrose is ideal for me. I can eat everything on the menu without having to ask what is in it. All the food is super tasty, there is a huge selection of juices and the sweet treats are better than anything I have tasted before. All the food is completely clean, nutritionally dense, raw and ORGANIC which is near impossible to find when eating out.

I often get take aways for me and my son when I haven’t had time to make lunch or dinner so we have no excuses for not eating healthy. I have been twice in one day!

The shop is also great! I shop here all the time for healthy foods you can’t find at the supermarket.

I can’t recommend enough, if you haven’t been before it is daintily worth a try.

Pros: Clean tasty Food, Nice vibe

Cons: None

Lovely salad yesterday at primrose, curried chickpeas, cauliflower tabouleh, beetroot houmous and kale salad. Took some of their protein balls to take away and oh my god they were lovely. Will be going back for more next week!
