The BBQ pork was my fave…

What has to be said first is the large portions that they give you here. This is your down and dirty, strip mall fast food Chinese place, except with vegan options. These include orange chicken, beef broccoli, Mongolian beef and of course BBQ pork which was my favorite from what I tried. I would’ve given a higher score except for the fact that this place charges an extra $1 to use your credit card, so bring cash if you plan on visiting.

Pros: Large portions , Good vegan selection

Cons: Additional $1 charge to use credit card

Awesome Chinese American comfort food

Delicious Chinese American classics, vegan! Love the General Tso’s Chicken, the Kung Pao, the Beef & Broccoli, and all the classics. Bonus that they have rice noodles (vermicelli) on top of fried rice and chow mein noodles. Definitely hits the spot for classic, greasy, flavorful Chinese American food. Also, I love that they always have about 5-6 vegan options and that they have 3 sizes. And they’re generous. Even the small is pretty substantial!

Pros: The variety, Different size options

Love Their Variety of Chinese Vegan Meats

After this place was recommended to me by a friend as one of the best vegan Chinese restaurants he's ever been to, hubby and I knew we had to make a visit. Upon driving up, I liked how a "vegan friendly" sign was clearly displayed in the front. Inside the restaurant, there is a cute mural on the wall as well as several tables available for people to sit at if they choose to eat at the restaurant.

Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and were impressed by the clearly labeled vegan menu options. Prices are listed for meat combo meals as well as vegan combo meals.

Prior to ordering, hubby asked if any vegan options contains nuts and the employee went and confirmed that the vegan Kung pow chicken contains peanuts but all the other vegan options were available for him to eat.

I decided to order a three item combo with half chow mein, half fried rice, vegan orange chicken, vegan BBQ pork, and vegan mushroom chicken, with a watermelon lemonade to drink. Hubby also chose the three item combo ordered half chow mein, half fried rice, vegan orange chicken, vegan Mongolian beef, and vegan BBQ pork, with a passion fruit lemonade to drink. We decided to split an order of veggie egg rolls and macaroni salad.

Our lemonades were quickly prepared and our food followed soon after. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw our to go containers clearly labeled as vegan. The watermelon lemonade was the best lemonade I ever had in that it tasted like a liquid watermelon Jolly Rancher to me which was delicious. Hubby enjoyed his passion fruit lemonade and said it had a good balance of sweetness and tartness.

The vegan BBQ pork was excellent, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and had the perfect amount of sauce of it. The vegan orange chicken was tender and sweet but not overly sweet and the vegan mushroom chicken was cooked well and had a good balance of vegan chicken, mushrooms and vegetables.

The vegan Mongolian beef was well seasoned and gave hubby the exact amount of spice that he likes and paired well with the chow mien and fried rice. The egg rolls and macaroni salad were also very tasty as well.

Although we began eating our meal at the restaurant, the food portions are so large that we decided to save some of it for a later meal. Due to the friendly and attentive staff as well as the variety of vegan menu items, we definitely plan to visit the restaurant again in the future.

Pros: Lots of vegan meats to choose from , Large portions , Friendly staff

Best Chinese food!!

I’ve been going to pots n woks for a few years and I love it. It’s in a small shopping center, can get pretty busy during lunch and dinner time. My go to’s is orange chicken, white rice, veggie rolls, won tong soup& broccoli beef. Like most vegan places, it’s expensive but worth the treat, PLUS they always overload you with food so you get your moneys worth.

Pros: Won tong soup, Orange chicken

Cons: Expensive

Vegan & Americanized Chinese Takeout

A core memory of my childhood is my love for Americanized Chinese mall restaurants. The portions are large (my boyfriend and I turned our meals into two meals each adding a new protein to leftover fried rice for a third meal), but to me, that is part of the experience (and in this economy, not bad for takeout for under 20 dollars a person).

About half (maybe a bit less) of the display case was vegan, and there were also a few vegan dishes randomly advertised on the wall next to the counter. My boyfriend ordered orange chicken, and I ordered “honey” walnut “shrimp” (half fried rice and half chow mein). My boyfriend thought everything was on the bland side (I was not offended by this, as that is part of the nostalgia of the specific restaurant I ate at as a kid), but I agree the food here is not revolutionary. However, I thought the orange chicken and shrimp were less bland than the chow mein, while the fried rice was the most bland.

While realistically, I would normally give a place like Pots N Woks three stars, I loved a trip down memory lane, especially veganized, so with an admitted bias, four stars from me.

Really good and nostalgic

Finally tried this place after having it on my radar for a while and I was not disappointed. This really fills the craving of eating Chinese American takeout which is tough to find for vegans. Everything we had was delicious and very realistic. I was shocked at how realistic the orange chicken and broccoli beef was. The kung pao chicken was actually one of the best I’ve ever had. I was skeptical of the walnut shrimp since vegan shrimp is usually rubbery, but WOW the texture was perfect. Best vegan shrimp I’ve ever had. They also have vegan boba here served in a huge cup.

Pros: Giant portions, Fills a niche

So much food

The servings are HUGE. I got the walnut shrimp and orange chicken. Both were the vegan version. They were so good. The walnut shrimp had the sauce on the side and now I want to use that sauce every day of my life. It was so delicious. The orange chicken had the perfect texture. The vegan options are more expensive than the meat ones but the portions are huge so it seemed really worth it to me. Also the people working were so sweet.

Yummy Chinese food

Their portions are very generous, and the food overall tastes pretty great. However, recently these days it tends to be hit or miss with the flavor, unlike way back when they used to have vegan pho (please bring it back I beg you!!) and never failed to blow my taste buds away. I don't know what changed with the food preparation, but I miss the old Pots N Woks... even though you'll still catch me here at least once a month after the craving for nostalgic Chinese food gets strong enough.

Pros: Pretty large variety outside of ready table items, Big portions

Cons: The more "exotic" items like shrimp take longer, Very pricey , Hit or miss with flavor

Like Panda Express but Vegan

Fast food, they use BeLeaf vegan meat. I was starving, and they do give you a ton of food. It was nostalgic basically having something like a Panda Express when I haven’t had that in at least 15 years.

Lizzo is trippin’

I've been following Pots 'N Woks on Instagram for a long time, anxious to finally try the vegan dishes. I feel like plant-based eaters are so eager for options that we see every option is a gift. This place is not that gift. It had fewer vegan options than the menu promised and the service was less than friendly.

I got the vegan orange chicken and the vegan Kung pao; both rather flavorless and disappointing...and expensive. It was $17 for the combo for takeout! It's a shame that places like Bodhi Lunar Feast didn't survive the pandemic and this is what we have left. I appreciate when businesses offer vegan options; it's imperative, however, that those options be satisfying. The food was truly subpar when compared with any of the myriad hot-case, strip mall, fast food, Chinese takeout joints. To be honest, the beyond chicken at Panda Express is far superior.

Pros: Some vegan options

Cons: Expensive, Poor service, Not tasty

The holy grail of vegan Chinese food!

The kung pao chik’n is spicy but delicious!! I can’t tell that it is vegan. I do prefer the chow mein over the fried rice (both vegan).

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Different types of vegan proteins, Actually spicy!

Cons: The restaurant has both vegan and non vegan food, Vegan fried rice is a hard sometimes , Not a lot of drink options

Nostalgic Chinese takeaway

This place gives me life. No it’s not all vegan but they are serving all the things I remember getting at my local takeaway as a kid. It’s flavoured just right. Honestly if you’re missing Chinese food as a vegan or vegetarian this is the place to eat. My favourite was the broccoli “beef.”

Best Vegan Chinese

This was our first time here and we drove from Yucaipa which is about 1hr with no traffic. Thank goodness we went on a Sunday so we were lucky. We ordered the Vegan Orange Chicken and the Vegan Broccoli Beef and a plate of Vegan Chow Mein. It was about $50 and the portions are large enough that we were able to get 2 full meals out of it. We had a few bites before heading home to taste it warm and fresh. It held up pretty well. Can’t wait to try more dishes next time we are in the area.

Chinese To Go Vegan!

I was scrolling through youtube and saw a review on this place and immediately sent Buttercup the menu and made dinner plans I had to try. We decide what we want, and get in the car. about 1/2 way to Whittier we try to call in our order and the recording says they are only taking walk in orders. That makes sense it was 6:00 on a Saturday night.

So we drive there and the plan is to order Shrimp Fried Rice, Orange Chik'n and Spicy Garlic Chik'n it seemed like we couldn't order combo plates. Well I get to the front of the line and they ask if I want combo I panic and say yes. So my Panic Order ended up being 3 combos Rice and Chowmien with: Orange Chik'n, Kung Pow Chik'n and Mongolian Beef I almost forgot 2 Chinese Buns. It came to like $52 so this place is not cheap but the portions were huge. In hindsight I wish I had stuck to my original order the amount of carbs compared to main dish was not proportional to he cost of the food. The order took about 1/2 to be ready they make all vegan items fresh, and they are worth the wait.

The main dishes were really good, especially the Orange Chik'n. It was not overly sweet like so many vegan places make it. it had a really good crisp bit to it. This had to be my favorite the followed by the BBQ Pork Bun. There was so much food I actually didn't eat that till the next day when I steamed it for Breakfast - don't judge me hahaha it is a perfect breakfast food. The bun was filing a little sweet and the filling was flavorful and had some great seasoning. The beef and the spicy chik'n were great no complaints, but when I go back I will just get the Bun and the Orange Chik'n.

The staff was efficient were hustling to take care of the socially distanced line out the door.

Not bad, not great

I ordered the vegan combo (chow mien and rice with spicy garlic mock chicken). The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything worth getting excited about, either. The wait for my food was also pretty long, about 25 minutes.

From now I'm going to take my business to purely vegan restaurants as opposed to restaurants with some vegan options. I would feel much better supporting those businesses instead.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Long wait, "okay" flavors

Best Vegan Chinese Food

Seriously, if you’re you miss hitting up Chinese food spots like I do, Pots N Woks is legit! Worth the drive. The portions are massive! Slightly expensive, but for how much food you get, it makes up for it. Plus they also have great desserts provided by Your Vegan Friend. Just be advised that it’s not the cleanest place inside and they’ve been shut down before for vermin infestation. If you check their health inspection rating online it will tell you all their violations, so with that in mind, go at your own risk. Still my fav Chinese food place 🤷

Pros: Tons of options

Cons: Pricey, Dirty inside, Health Code violations
