Overrated & unpleasant as a vegan

Poppycocks is a very trendy / upscale place, they’re busy and don’t do reservations. That’s all fine and dandy, but the vegan options were abysmal. I was excited for the tostadas but they were comically small for how expensive it was. It’s incredibly busy and a meat/steak oriented overall.

If you’re dining with a group that wants to eat here and have that upscale experience, it’s nice that you can have a dish here. Otherwise it’s not worth the time/money/wait.

Pros: Taste of food was good

Cons: Way too small for how expensive, Limited vegan options to begin with, Very crowded/busy

Best Brussel Sprouts Ever!

You have to try the Brussel sprouts if you go, they’re phenomenal and unlike anything I’ve ever tried.

I ordered the curry without crema and sub pita for the naan bread. The curry was bland in my opinion, no spice whatsoever and under salted.

Pros: Creative dishes , Best sprouts ever , Happy they have appetizers and multiple entrees

Cons: Bland curry

Amazing curry and apps!

I got their Coconut Chili Brussels appetizer and wish I ordered a second plate. It is crunchy, sweet, savory, and overall delectable. For the non-vegans at the table, they could not get enough of this app, definitely order it for the group😄Next I ordered the Coconut Cashew Curry (minus Naan bread, it contains butter and milk). It was amazing, and incredibly filling. Full of flavor and mild spice, this dish would be loved by any vegan or non vegan. I will be back for these 2 dishes alone😄Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Pros: Flavor, Quantity

Cons: Price (expensive)

Top of my budget

I got the Curry, and it was devine. I was disappointed that the naan was more like pita. I would say to skip the tostadas. For the price, they are glorified tortilla chips with toppings. I didn't try the Brussel sprouts because I have baby mouth.

Pros: The Curry was delicious , Staff were nice

Cons: The tostadas were pricey for how little there is, My husband's sandwich (meat) was cold and soggy

Expected more

We order every vegan dish. The Brussels stood up from the rest. I highly recommend that one.

Delicious tostadas!

I got the vegan tostadas and although it was a small plate, I paired it with a cup of the vegan chili and it was the perfect amount of food. It is a little pricey but the quality of the food was worth it. My boyfriend got their vegetarian mushroom pasta (large plate dish) and it was a very generous portion. Their complimentary bread rolls are NOT vegan, I asked. They did have a decent amount of vegetarian options.

Pros: Delectable food, Artsy atmosphere

Cons: A bit pricey , Few vegan options

Tasty but expensive

The cauliflower curry dish and the tostadas were both good. I wish we had gotten larger portions though, because it was expensive and didn’t fill us up. The tostadas for example only had 3 chips that came with the toppings.

Great!

Delicious food, good cocktails. Seemed like only 2 options but they were both great. One with cauliflower/Brussels that my husband would normally not order voluntarily and he loved it.

Pros: Delicious

Cons: A bit expensive for smallish portions

Quality options

A great spot in Traverse City; as with many restaurants the vegan options are limited, but the lentil curry, cauliflower/Brussel sprouts, and Tostadas are all delicious and easily veganized

Pros: Good food, Friendly staff

The Coconut Cauliflower and Brussels...Wow!

Knowledgable staff; delicious and well-made vegan options; a lot can be made vegan or vegetarian. We had the watermelon salad, tostadas, and coconut cauliflower. The flavors were exceptional.

Delicious flavorful salad

I had a very filling Greek Quinoa salad. Vegetarian. It had cheese, but the dressing was vegan so it could have been easily adjusted. Tostada appetizer was well-made.

Pros: good veggie options

Cons: bathroom was filthy and stinky! at 11 am!

delicious

The vegan tostada appetizer was amazing we ended up ordering two! The red curry was spicier than I expected but still delicious tofu would have been an awesome addition to it. I left with a very full belly. Staff was very nice it was a wonderful time.

Among The Few in TC for Creative Vegan Cuisine

Having been a patron of Poppycock's since 1990 when I was crushing grilled cheeses there with my parents, I've seen Poppycock's evolve from a downtown diner into an electric, veggie-friendly restaurant. They have a solid menu that caters to all diets. And while they only really have 3-4 vegan options, they are able to modify dishes to meet certain dietary needs. I personally suggest the "Fawaffle," which is falafel-batter waffle topped with avocados and tomatoes.

Pros: Excellent food, Awesome staff, Chill atmosphere, great jazz on occasion

Cons: Spendy, Popular, Some dishes might be small-ish

great veg options

They have a portion of their menu dedicated solely to vegetarian options. 4 entrees. Included one vegan option which was red curry. The curry didn't actually have too many veggies in it though, just a lot of sauce and mango, which left me hungry after it's already small portion. It was tasty though. They did have one or two other items on the regular menu that could be veganized (their tostadas for instance). I would go back. Very pleasant ambiance and great service.

Delightful

This is a great atmosphere to eat in with lots of vegetarian and vegan options clearly labelled on the menu. I had the delicious daily "green" special, which was zuchhini, pepper, and carrot wrapped in eggplant, served over sesame rice cakes, plus a tomato cashew sauce with whipped coconut cream. Very good.

Pros: Clearly labeled options

Great service, limited selection

The staff was very accommodating. They tried to prepare a dish that is normally done on the grill in a pan to avoid cross-contamination with seafood/meat. There are only a couple of vegetarian options though and the food was just ok.

Pros: Helpful staff, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Limited selection, Ok food

Great

Our mostly-veggie family ate here this weekend and all 4 of us really enjoyed our vegetarian entrees and appetizers. I thought it was great that they had a specific vegetarian section on the menu with 4 entrees in addition to the usual salads and such that can be altered to be veg. The vegan appetizer (veggie tostadas) was really good too. Coming from a small town where we have zero restaurants that care to list vegetarian entrees on the menu, I just thought this was great.

Pros: Good selection of veggie friendly meals

Best Italian dishes in TC

I hadn't eaten here for about a year b/c last time I went the vegetarian options were too limited. They now have more veggie offerings. You can still get the hummus & pita chips and their pasta dishes like Creamy Pesto with pine nuts, a straight forward Marinara and a Primavera. They also now have tofu lettuce wraps, a caprese tart, sweet potato chips with guacamole, soups and a great selection of salads including a Greek Quinoa salad that's worthy of mention. Vegetarian entrees include a Sundried Tomato Polenta Stack, Mediterranean Cous Cous Stuffed Squash, Coconut Curried Tofu, a Spicy Lentil and Vegetable Burrito. As a vegan you'll still have to make some special requests.

Though this place is not strictly Italian, it's the best veg-friendly Italian place in TC. It beats the heck out of Trattoria Stella which I will not set foot into b/c they serve foie gras (tortured duck liver), lamb and blood sausage. You've been warned. Go to Poppycock's instead.
