Wonderful food and perfect dining experience

The food was fantastic and the service perfect - highly professional and efficient but also very welcoming. We found the vegan menu well rounded and the experience for vegans well considered. Delicious and at times amazing. Perhaps a couple of ingredients were replaced or removed, but it was an entirely different experience to that which I've had elsewhere - here, my meal certainly didn't seem like a compromise or a downgraded vegetarian menu. The atmosphere was lovely too, true fine dining but no pressure to fit a mould. I'd really recommend. We'll definitely be going back.

Pros: Service - faultless but very welcoming, Great vegan food, Lovely atmosphere

Pollen Street Social

I have eaten at Pollen Street Social twice. Once for a business lunch and once for a personal dinner. The most recent being the personal dinner.

The verdict? I would not eat here again unless substantial changes are made. I expect more from a Michelin Star restaurant charging top dollar/pound for their food/service.

Two tasting menus and wine paring cost us just over £400 (~$551), which did not feel worth it at the end. My biggest problem with PSS is that their plant-focused tasting menu is vegetarian and can be made vegan by excluding ingredients. Why not be creative and add different ingredients, or offer a vegan menu altogether?

Most of the items on the tasting menu repeated ingredients and tastes from previous courses. A lot of the flavoring used was a sour lemon taste, which was fine for one dish but got very old later. The only memorable course for me was the pea risotto...which might have been amazing if they replaced the excluded ingredients with something else. The lack of creativity for vegan dishes was disappointing.

We were bored by the food and actually pretty bored the whole time, as the dinner took 4 HOURS which left us begging for the bill so we could leave at the end.

Finally, the person I was dining with did not get the vegan menu and the first serving was an "afternoon tea". Irritatingly, the restaurant put both the non-vegan and vegan items on the same serving platter. I had a huge problem with this but they insisted it was fine. One of the items served with the afternoon tea was identical to the non-vegan version and these clowns who told me everything was fine were completely WRONG. My dining partner luckily ate the item from his side first and flagged he had the wrong one and that they put the non-vegan on my side. The staff were not receptive to us when we told them they messed up and put the non-vegan item on my side and the vegan item on the other--no apologies from the restaurant. This was irritating. That said, I recommend you request your food to be separated if you're dining with a non-vegan here.

Lunch in January 2020 - The vegan tasting menu for lunch was much smaller, but the service still took a while. Same deal with exclusion of ingredients for vegan versions. Hopefully they'll get with the times given veganism is huge in London.

Go if you have to...

I went with my partner as we had received a voucher as a gift. We had the vegan tasting menu which was nice, some dishes were better than others. It was basically all the dishes on the meat tasting menu , without the meat. Would have been nice to see some kind of effort go in to selecting the vegan dishes but I guess in the end it’s a restaurant that serves meat so they don’t really have a reason to. There are far better vegan tasting menus in london so my advice is, only go if you have to. And if you find it difficult to be surrounded by meat, I wouldn’t go at all. They have their meat cellar next to the toilets, all meats on full display! And whilst having our dessert we had tables on each side of us having some kind of “all the meats” platter...

Fantastic vegan tasting menu

Treat yourself to the fabulous vegan tasting menu and you will not regret it! I was a little disappointed with the truffle risotto as the taste of parsley was overpowering the taste of truffle! But otherwise faultless and a fantastic experience!

Pros: Exceptional service
