Great Little Find - Edit
This small cafe/restaurant is located in an alley behind a hair salon and the Tapenade restaurant. They serve modern Vietnamese, meaning that they have a healthy slant on the traditional cuisine.
The vegetarian roll and the tofu summer roll are amazingly flavorful and fresh, served with a plum sauce or less traditional mango or spicy carrot sauce (ask for it). The rolls are big enough to be considered an entree, and I stop in at least once a week to eat in or get some to go.
The (vegan)spinach & tofu in vegetable broth is a comfort soup that is deceivingly simple but makes you want to come back again and again. They also have a vegetarian tom yum soup which can be made without shrimp.
Some dishes are not on the menu but worth asking for. My current favorite is their lemongrass curry with fried tofu. It is a slightly spicy, almost dry, curry served over a bed of rice surrounded by fried tofu squares.
For dessert you must try the Vietnamese waffle, which is green from the pandan leaf that flavors it. It is served with seasonal fruits and coconut whipped cream.
This little restaurant is my favorite place in La Jolla and probably in the entire city of San Diego for vegetarian food.
