Nice but overpriced - Edit
Went here for a late breakfast on a Sunday. Liked the rustic style interior. Unfortunately, by the time we got a seat and ordered, the chocolate banana pancakes and other breakfast items were no longer served. I ordered the falafel plate and my friend got the cauliflower curry. My dish was ok, the curry was really tasty. Personally, I think the items are overpriced, but then again, the location of the café is in an upmarket neighbourhood.

Good food, bad service - Edit
Read moreReally disappointing. The staff were chatting instead of taking orders. My smoothie never came. And when I complained about it after we had finished our food, they gave me a smoothie of the counter which wasn’t what I had paid for. In the end we left because we couldn’t be bothered to wait anymore for their incompetent staff.
Pros: good food
Cons: bad, careless service

Great desserts but salty food - Edit
They make fantastic cakes but the main dishes are unfortunately way too salty. Have been many tines, tried all or most of them. Staff is nice and friendly. The huge table in the middle with bench is great if you don't wear skirt or dress.

Really nice food, very friendly staff and a welcoming, casual vibe. Would definitely recommend. Went here with my non-vegan friend and she also loved it. The cookies/sweet treats are really yummy too!

Great place for brunch - Edit
Went there recently for brunch. Ordered the banana pancakes and corn fritters. Both were very tasty, particularly the fritters. I also thought the general atmosphere and decor was very nice. Only complaint was that the strange benches downstairs were impossible to sit on with horribly impractical cushions so I opted for a good old chair instead. Would definitely return.

nut roast but it was cold - Edit
In January I went and they were still serving a festive dish of nut roast, vegetables and "warm" gravy. I ordered it, and when I sat down to eat it it was stone cold. It was meant to be served that way, the only warm part of the dish was the gravy, but that soon went cold upon hitting the food. I asked if the staff could warm it for me but they said no. I ate it, it was ok but very salty, and I like a lot of salt but it was getting too much for me. I had a cake for dessert and it was very average. The seating arrangement was difficult as it was one long bench serving a communal table, so each time I needed to get up I had to disturb the person next to me to be able to pull out the bench and get my legs out. All in all it was an overpriced and disappointing experience

Maybe next time it will be better - Edit
I regret that I haven't bought cake or something because it looked good. I think my food would be better if it wasn't that cold and spicy.

not worth the hype - Edit
There is a big hype around Ella. The food in the restaurant is bland and uninspired. It might be healthy, but most other health oriented restaurants in London serve much tastier and original food. The worst however is the audience. Fur wearing (so is Ella) individuals. Staff was nice though.

Good idea, but mediocre food. - Edit
The food has been thought out quite well. I would argue that there is so much cool/cold food that would have been better heated up.
Read moreI had a sweet potato cake that was cool and a tasty slaw on the side. My husband had a hot curry that was more tasty.
The juices are all pre-packaged and in plastic bottles- a little disappointing for the price.
My husband and I spent £30 for two small lunches and two smoothies- it was not worth it.
Pros: quick service
Cons: cool food, pricy, limited seating.

Delicious salad bar! - Edit
I love this place - it is so cosy and sweet, with a really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. There are many breakfast and lunch options, most of which are vegan, and all of which are clearly labelled. There is lots of seating downstairs with plenty of comfortable nooks and crannies. The salad bar looks amazing and tastes even better.

Very disappointing - Edit
Maybe it's an off day but my first experience eating here today does not make me want to return. I had the five bean chilli which although tasty was a very small portion size and served with inedible cornbread - dry, heavy and tasteless - and an average red cabbage slaw. The eating area was full of dirty plates from long-departed previous customers and the service was poor. When I asked for a glass I was told there were some. So I had to explain that there weren't and that was why I was asking. To top it off there were fruit flies circling my food a I ate and hovering now as I write this. There are much better places in London to eat vegan food.

Been to the Mae Deli twice now, once for brunch, once for lunch. The lunch foods were very nice. And brunch was very interesting too. Flavours were great, and the combos worked splendidly. Cakes were fine too. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side though.

As good as the other! - Edit
Having tried the breakfast in the other location, we decided to try this one for breakfast too.
Read moreWe had the sweet corn fritatas with spicy beans, which was delicious!
The lemon cake was tasty too.
The food in general has a nice and yummy homemade feeling. The staff was super friendly and the service was also great.
During breakfast there were not too many people, so the atmosphere in the basement was quite calm and peaceful.
Will definitely come back when in London again.
Pros: opens for breakfast, yummy
Cons: none

welcome to London - Edit
We came here on our first night here. I had the Five Bean Cili with cornbread and cole slaw. The five bean was also "five alarm" if you eat all the hot peppers. It is as great. And the cole slaw had sunflower seeds. Nice crunch. My wife had the Vegetable Paella with roasted broccoli and bean and red pepper salad. It was all served cold and would have been better warmed up.

It's nice to try different vegan restaurants for every meal. We can't do that in upstate NY. On the other hand, you don't have to share public transportation with 9 million others. "Mind the Gap."

Cons: Ask for a hot meal

Delicious healthy food, great staff, bright ambiance - Edit
Deliciously Ella is the exact type of restaurant that you want when you’re on the go or traveling. I was in London for business for 48hrs and ate lunch here once, and breakfast the next day. Healthy non-processed vegan meals with a great atmosphere (communal dining) for a quick bit. A must visit but not an intimate date spot.

Buffet style menu allows for personalisation on food. Staff don't hold back on portion sizes so I always leave on a full stomach aha! My favourites recently have been the cacao drink and tomato falafels. Definitely recommend a visit.

Mediocre, expensive food in a stylish cafe - Edit
A sweet little cafe in upmarket Mayfair owned by Ella of Deliciously Ella fame. They're currently in the process of renaming their chain of 3 restaurants called "The Mae Deli" to "Deliciously Ella".
Read moreThe food is good - all totally vegan, and healthy, but nothing to write home about. It's quite a limited choice and the menu is quite tame - nothing especially new or different - bean chilli and rice, humous and salad etc - not done in a particularly exciting way. It's good home-cooked food, but the high prices don't reflect the basic foods presented. Just to give you an idea - it was £3 for a small side of quinoa with a few peas and radishes (about 3-4 dessert spoons worth of food).
The cakes are a little better - again, very traditional flavours - a lemon sponge, a brownie and a vanilla/strawberry sponge. Great textures but I'm afraid to say, none blew me away, and again the prices are very high for the product.
Overall, a safe choice but it's very standard fare. There's nothing remotely exciting about this menu - so this, combined with the high prices will mean that although there's nothing stopping me from going back next time I'm in the area, I'm very unlikely to go out of my way or recommend it to others.

Friendly service, tasty food! - Edit
After reading the negative reviews for the original Mae Deli, we were rather apprehensive about visiting the second one a few days after it opened.
Read moreWe could not have been more pleasantly surprised. The service in particular was some of the best we have ever come across, the staff are extraordinarily friendly. The person serving us (Harriet) was superb, and also vegan, which is always reassuring. She was really helpful, especially for checking which cakes were suitable for coeliacs. Even the chap collecting plates etc was super-friendly.
I was expecting the food to be good, but it was better than I had hoped. We tried a number of things we would not normally combine, which I am now keen to try at home.
Portions were good and the price was reasonable, especially for London.
Ella does use honey in her books, but none of the food on offer when we were there had honey in it. There were 2 types of cake which were certified gluten free, the recipes having been changed recently to accommodate coeliacs, not just those avoiding wheat.
We ended up eating 2 cakes each, which were both excellent (I make very good cakes myself, so this is praise indeed).
Although the Mae Deli does serve a small amount of meat and fish, this is clearly an optional extra, and kept well out of the way from the main offerings.
There was a long queue out of the door for takeaways at one point, which is always a good sign!
In short, this is now one of our favourite places, and we can't wait to go back.
Pros: Lovely staff, Great food, GF & vegan cake!
Cons: Serves small amounts of meat/fish
