What an amazing experience! - Edit
The food here is so delicious and the service was great. I am so happy I found this place considering vegan food is few and far between in this town. I was surprised to find the flavors in the Seitan Tamale to be Mexican inspired and pretty I point. If you are in Asheville, add this to your trip and you will not regret it.

Extremely Disappointed - Edit
My daughter and I came in June 36th on a Wednesday around 3:30pm. We stood at the front for nearly 7 minutes while two of the wait staff looked over at us and said nothing, also we entire cook staff did the same. We kept reading the sign to make sure it said to wait. Finally a hostess came out from the back and told us since we didn't have reservations we had to sit at the bar. So we did, you were out of Cold brew coffee at 3:30pm on Wednesday. We drove over an Hour just to come back to this this restaurant from a former visit in (April 2019) Our cheese plate was so tiny and we weren't informed that asking for extra bread cost money. The plate is $17 with 4 tiny pieces of bread. I noticed other cheese plates with a lot of cheese and toast. It wasn't the same. We felt so UNWELCOME and there wasn't much communication between waiter and customer. I will NOT BE BACK. My daughter also felt the same way. The food cost ALOT and the seat are Horribly hard and uncomfortable. The staff are NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL. Two visits and disappointed both times. The food was good but the service and seating awful. Asheville had WAY BETTER to offer. (Organic,Vegan)

Amazing food and memories! - Edit
I love this place! This place was my introduction to classy vegan food in college and still some of the best I've ever had. Plant also reminds me of some wonderful occasions in my life! A first anniversary, meals with visiting family, great dates with my partner, etc. It's a special occasion for sure but not so expensive that it's out of reach for a struggling college kid looking for a really special date. Staff is excellent! Food is excellent! Experience is all around excellent!

Great vegan food - Edit
Asheville's premier vegan restaurant. It's quasi fine dining, which I liked. The food is fine dining quality and presentation, but there weren't stuffy white table cloths.
Read moreWe got the cheese plate (as most people seem to and as you should too) and it was phenomenal. They serve 3 very different cheeses, which was great. One farmers style, one aged, and the other more like a spread. Comes with homemade focaccia, apples, figs, and beets. Great presentation and quality.
We also split an entree - the seitan Chile con queso where the seitan had been subbed for tempeh due to availability. It was amazing. Some of the most flavorful tempeh I've ever had, and my partner went crazy about the tamale as he grew up on them. It's a big dish too.
We had room for dessert, so tried the creme brulee. This was the only negative as it's not actually creme brulee - it's flan. Neither of us like flan, while we like creme brulee. I'd suggest changing the wording of this on the menu so people know what to expect. It wasn't a cheap meal but I felt like the price for quality was reasonable. I come from NYC where this meal would have cost 2x as much.
Pros: Amazing vegan food, Nice atmosphere
Cons: Must reserve in advance or come early

Presentation, Not Substance - Edit
I am a fan of the Brady Bunch. Of plant, not so much. I was very excited when this restaurant opened. It was the first all-vegan restaurant in Asheville, and in the beginning, I liked the food a lot, particularly the brunch (waffles with vegan Caesar salad - that was truly delicious). But something changed over time. I'm not sure what. It was always rather pricey for my budget, but I loved the seitan and wanted to support an all-vegan place. Forward to 2012; I was working nearby and decided to treat myself to lunch. It took a long time for my sandwich to be brought, but I figured I had enough time for dessert. I ordered, but after 10 full minutes of waiting, I had to leave. Forward to 2013. I brought my then-girlfriend here. She ordered risotto and I ordered pepper-crusted seitan. She had maybe two mushrooms in her risotto, and I will never forget the look of OMG this is disgusting! on her face after her second forkful. I offered to switch meals with her; she declined after trying the seitan, which was loaded with salt. Ah ha! That was the flavor I couldn't quite place, I realized. In any case, we told the server that the food was very oily and very salty, we were not happy. She said, "I'm so sorry" and went on her way. I had an acquaintanceship with two of the owners of plant at that time. But with my lunch time frustration and with the salt-and-oil frustration, no remedies at all were offered (beyond a shrug and "I'm sorry.")
Read moreMy now-wife and I actually decided to give plant a try five years later, for Valentine's Day in 2081. My wife is an athlete and she eats a lot; I just enjoy eating in general. We ordered the cheese board, some salad or entrée (I forget which exactly) and then the crème brulee and a piece of chocolate cake. Some of the cheese was very tasty. But plant is all about presentation, not feeding people. The amount of food for the cost of the dinner was extremely high. The crème brulee was the size of a mini-tape for a detective recording device. The cake was OK but I have eaten better (and worse. I can actually make better). Asheville is becoming so gentrified, I guess the cost of plant's food, along with the fruit swirls on the white plates with the chocolate cake, as well as the cost, is suitable for some. But if you're on a budget and enjoy good vegan food, skip this place. Five years did nothing to improve my experience here.
Two stars *only* because this is an all-vegan place.
Pros: It's all vegan, Great for people not on a budget
Cons: Small meals, high cost, Lack of concern for patron dissatisfaction, Still oily/salty

Plant is the Best! - Edit
I will be honest, the first time I went to plant I was a little thrown off by how fancy the food is prepared. I thought that it may be too fancy. But, the atmosphere is very laid back. And when I realized how much love is put into each meal I was completely sold! This is now my favorite restaurant! And that means a lot! Plant knows healthy, fresh, local, seasonal vegan food better than anyone!

Outstanding! Healthy AND delicious vegan food, which can be so hard to find. A few dishes were slightly heavy on oil but otherwise no complaints. If I’m Ashville, this place is a must. And save room for dessert!

Special night out - Edit
I visited Plant for the first time tonight. I’m from Knoxville and was in town for Vegfest. The building looks humble on the outside but very nice on the inside. Since we didn’t make reservations we were told we could sit at the bar or on the patio. I didn’t know they would be so busy as we arrived at 5pm when they opened. We had the potatoes for an appetizer and they were delicious and crispy. For entrees we had the tempeh chile con queso and the smoked portobello. The portion size for the tempeh was better but the portobello was absolutely delicious. That’s what I’ll get when I go back. Apparently they marinate the mushroom and smoke it then cook it upon order. No wonder it’s so good! We were too full for dessert unfortunately. This is the most upscale vegan restaurant I have been to. Great for a special night out! Our entrees were $18 and $20. Wouldn’t go regularly because of the cost but I wish I could!
