Make A Reservation - Edit
We got there at about 7pm. The place was packed. We didn’t have a reservation because we’re from out of town and had no idea how popular this place is. They seated us at the bar. The food is good but the large plates are small to me. I’m glad I got a large plate instead of a small one.

We came here as a treat, our one fancy meal during our US road trip. We were not disappointed! Everything was just lovely - the food, wine, service. We particularly enjoyed the Toast! appetiser and the Blondie and Carrot Cake desserts.

Better than expected - Edit
I expected Plant to be good, but it was amazing!! I was so heartbroken because my group has reservations for Plant at 7pm but we ended up eating a late lunch around 3pm so we weren’t that hungry. We split the guacamole special and the ravioli, and I got the smoked mushroom plate. I ate every bite despite arriving with a still mostly-full stomach. I need to come back to Asheville ASAP to try everything on the menu!!

Pretentious - Edit
I haven’t been back to Plant in years because of how rude they were to me on my birthday one time. When I left a bad review about it, the owner himself replied snarkily that I deserved it. You could only make reservations after they opened (weird) so we just got there early. They tried to put me at a table next to the door when there were plenty of better tables, they said were saved for POTENTIAL reservations. I explained it was my 21st birthday, which was important, and I really would appreciate a better table. They were super snarky to me but reluctantly let my partner and I have a better table. When I got to dessert I realized they cut the size of my favorite pie of theirs in half but were selling it for the same price as before.
Read moreIt’s good, make no mistake. But I don’t think it’s worth it. It really turned me off from this place when the owner gave me the reply he did. I’ve worked in service industry for years and my bosses have always strictly trained us to go above and beyond for customers. Otherwise, why are we paying $20 for a bowl of pasta? He’s obviously out of touch and doesn’t realize how expensive his restaurant is. And I’d think that would mean you need even better customer service. Not bitchy employees and an equally bitchy owner.
Go to Rosetta’s.

Top-notch! - Edit
We ate here two nights in a row. It was THAT good. We sampled different dishes both times and enjoyed every single one of them. This place definitely rivals other prominent vegan restaurants in big cities like New York and LA.
Read moreThat said, you pretty much have to make a reservation to secure a table. Or you can try the counter seats which are first come first serve. It's a shame they make the reservation process so onerous. You can only do it in person or over the phone, but their voicemail is often full. When I did get to leave a message, nobody ever called back. We ended up walking in at 5 the first night and making a reservation for the second night (also at 5 because they were fully booked between 5:30 and 8 😂).
Pros: excellent food
Cons: difficult to make a reservation

Top 10 in US - Edit
I have been a vegan for over 30 years and eaten at Candle 79, Millennium, and many other top spots. This ranks with the best! Had the ravioli with shrooms (special) and the Cauliflower. Everything had the “eyes closed” amazing flavors.

Amazing Applewood Smoked Mushrooms - Edit
Tried plant when we were in town for a birthday and were not disappointed. The menu changes with the seasons, so I can't promise that the things that blew us away will be available, but if the applewood smoked mushrooms are available, definitely try them! Grilled beets were very good as well. I personally wasn't blown away by the peanut butter 'cheesecake' but I'm a harsh critic when it comes to vegan cheeses. In hindsight, I wish we had gone with the saffron creme brulee, but otherwise I have nothing but wonderful things to say for this little hole-in-the-wall. Ooh, and the mixed drinks were lovely too!

The best vegan restaurant I've been to, especially for high-end dining. My parents aren't vegan and they loved the food - especially the ravioli! They also liked the Toast a lot. Personally I love the Applewood Smoked Mushroom and Ravioli most so far. And of course almost every table gets the cheese board - it's such a fun experience!

Cozy and romantic atmosphere, friendly staff and out of this world food. Everything to my understanding is made in house, with local ingredients. Was definitely worth the splurge. Get the ravioli! Also I recommend making a reservation.

GET THE CHEESE PLATE - Edit
I had the best dining experience of my life at Plant, since going vegan. There aren't many fully vegan restaurants on the same level as Plant. Being able to enjoy a multi course meal with wine and dessert was such a special treat. If you go, you absolutely must get the cheese plate. It was divine. Every single dish we ordered was spectacular. The vibe in the restaurant was very cool too. One note of caution - get a reservation! Plant was booked on a Wed night and we almost didn't get in. We sat at the small bar, which was fun because we got an upclose view of all the action.

Delightful every time - Edit
My mouth is watering as I'm starting this review! We come here every year for our anniversary. Everything, from the drinks to the entrees to the dessert, is just so well done. Don't miss the vegan cheese plate, it's soooo good. The staff are wonderful too. You will likely need to make a reservation, and it is on the pricier side, but it's worth it. Just a lovely evening every time.

The most amazing vegan food I’ve ever had - Edit
Honestly this is some of the best vegan food I’ve eaten EVER. Aged cashew cheese ravioli with roasted/seasoned lobster mushrooms, vegan cheese plate with aged cashew cheese, macadamia cheese, and pecan cheese with house made focaccia, apples, olives, pickled green beans, and grapes, tahini cauliflower (which I forgot to take a pic of oops lol), summer ramen with smoked tamari broth (they literally smoke the broth in a smoker!!!), and applewood smoked mushrooms on a bed of cauliflower “risotto” with a shredded fennel salad. Then for dessert (which we haven’t eaten yet because we might actually die if we try to eat more right away) their creme brûlée and their blondie.

I’m not gonna lie, I do give out a lot of 5 star reviews. But this place is BEYOND 5 stars. Absolutely brilliant. From the cheese platter to the applewood mushrooms, to the ice cream. Every single thing was beyond out wild vegan expectations. My fiancé is a vegan chef, and this place could Possibly be the best vegan restaurant we’ve been to.

I may be a bit biased because I used to work here but I absolutely adore everything Plant does. The food, the humans, it’s all good. Maybe I’ll make reservations right now.
