Excellent pie dough; light, crispy, perfectly charred. Most specialty pies can be made with vegan (violife) cheese.

Sub vegan cheese and that's abut it. Pic is supreme, no meat, sub vegan. Server gave me garlic pepper shaker with it and suggested the pizza might need flavor. Hip place and friendly staff otherwise.

My girlfriend and I love vegan friendly St. Pete, and one day we were walking down Central Avenue while I was getting hungry. We walked past Pizza Box, which got me thinking I would like pizza. Even though nothing indicated this would be a vegan-friendly establishment, I peeked inside the door and saw “plant-based“ on a poster that was hanging on the wall, so we decided to go inside to check it out.
Read moreThere are a couple of pizza options listed on HappyCow, but this place was not. I figured I’d take a risk and ask. To my surprise, the staff happily informed us they had vegan cheese after we walked in!
We ordered just a cheese pizza which was absolutely delicious! They prepare it in a wood fired oven and can make almost any pizza vegan with Follow Your Heart. This isn’t well advertised - they list “dairy free cheese” in the toppings box. I hope they update their menu to make it more obvious (writing this in Feb 2020). But, the pizza is totally delicious. We even went back a couple of days later and got another pizza that was amazing also. I haven’t had a pie quite like that since going vegan, I would go so far to say even. The hippy vibes atmosphere fits perfectly in the artsy St. Pete scene. Highly recommend for a good pizza spot.

Cons: Vegan not well advertised, $3 upcharge for vegan cheese

Hi, 2025 Stefan here. My girlfriend is now my wife 😄 and Pizza Box is still here, still has vegan options, and is still pretty good. I think I overheard they use VioLife cheese, which sadly is maybe a step down. I know it was Follow Your Heart previously. That said, it was still pretty tasty.
