Awesome Cafe in the Heart of Dotonbori - Edit
Pivot Base is fantastic! Dotonbori is like a huge shopping area and food Mecca for non-vegan so the fact that there’s this amazing vegan restaurant in the middle of it is pretty awesome. The food is so delicious—we visited twice! The Ramen option I got was so incredibly creamy and rich. The noodles were extremely flavorful and the veggies were just as tasty. I also loved the fried Takoyaki. They have a few different flavors (we sampled all of them) and they bring a house made mayo you can add to it! It’s so good! Everything else we ordered was superb! Everyone here speaks English, and I believe the owner hangs out at the restaurant as well. He’s very kind, as are the servers. This place is 10 out of 10 incredible—we highly recommend it!

Food was really great, and service was quick. All food and drink is vegan, including vegan versions of local delicacies. A couple things that are worth noting: they don't accept cash, dishes are served when they are ready (ie not at the same time), and its very popular so there was a queue when we came ( 8pm on a thursday). Its deffo worth the wait though!

We needed a place close to the train station to grab dinner. This place was really good. They had tons of different options. We went with the takoyaki since it seemed like a traditional dish to try. It’s great to be able to try traditional Japanese foods made Vegan! The staff was super friendly and spoke English very well! We talked a lot about our trip and they helped us out with speaking our Japanese! They were so happy we had notes on how to say certain phrases!😄it was a really good time.

Worst vegan food in my life - Edit
I've lived in Japan for over 6 years, and have had mostly tasty food, some amazing and the rare bad ones. This' one of the rare incredibly terrible ones made for tourists. Who would be happy eating very goopy takoyaki or barely cooked yakisoba ... for double the usual prices. Seeing the rating here doesn't inspire trust in Happy Cow, or tourist's reviews for that matter.

What you may notice first in this place is that despite being in one of the most crowded parts of the city, even on the near busiest part of the week, it's not that busy.
Read moreI went at 6pm on a sunday, many people out on the street, not many customers inside. And almost all of us (myself included) foreigners!
this is not an objectively bad thing, it means I got my food quick, but for a place styled like this, in a busy area, with big glass walls, sometimes it's a bit... awkward?
Regardless, HOW WAS THE FOOD? Well...I had a small portion of normal takoyaki, 3 type kimchi, and a gin & tonic. The Takoyaki exterior texture was great! rice flour is a great choice. The filling was not as rich and savory as I had hoped though. The sauce was quite different than I was expecting, but still good, and the mayo was a good balancer.
The kimchi was not so strong, and not spicy at all. A little sad, but a fine compliment to some takoyaki, and the carrot in particular was quite nice!
The gin & tonic was probably a little better than average, but quite big! i was surprised what a healthy glass I was served ha!
Overall, solid place. Good food.
