Awesome Cafe in the Heart of Dotonbori - Edit
Pivot Base is fantastic! Dotonbori is like a huge shopping area and food Mecca for non-vegan so the fact that there’s this amazing vegan restaurant in the middle of it is pretty awesome. The food is so delicious—we visited twice! The Ramen option I got was so incredibly creamy and rich. The noodles were extremely flavorful and the veggies were just as tasty. I also loved the fried Takoyaki. They have a few different flavors (we sampled all of them) and they bring a house made mayo you can add to it! It’s so good! Everything else we ordered was superb! Everyone here speaks English, and I believe the owner hangs out at the restaurant as well. He’s very kind, as are the servers. This place is 10 out of 10 incredible—we highly recommend it!

Thank you very much for visiting our restaurant.
Read moreOur restaurant is located in Dotonbori, a tourist area in Osaka, and we offer Osaka specialties such as takoyaki and kushikatsu in vegan versions.
The vegan ramen you enjoyed is one of our most popular menu items!
All of our staff speak English, and we are fully cashless. We hope that guests from all over the world enjoy traditional Japanese cuisine and Osaka specialties.
Thank you very much for leaving such a detailed review.
We sincerely look forward to welcoming you again.

Right off Dotonbori St. the place was really calm and relaxed. The staff were so nice! The vegan Takoyaki were insane! The curry bowl and soy milk ramen were also very good.

Relief to find a meal without fish paste or hidden meat - Edit
We ordered the yakisoba and gyoza and drinks. Why do Japanese vegan restaurants use fake meat alternatives- some don’t eat meat due to taste and texture so don’t need fake replicas!

Really nice vegan restaurant - Edit
The Yakisoba was really good. The restaurant has a good balance of more western food in case you are craving more known meals. But with all your typical ramen, yakisoba and takoyaki. Would recommend.

Central location + Osaka specialties - Edit
My partner and I enjoyed stopping in here while sightseeing the absolute madness of Dotonbori. Great location in the heart of the tourist area.
Read moreI was excited to try vegan-ised versions of local Osakan specialties like takoyaki. They were very pillowy and a little bland inside, but the sauce and sides made up for it. I liked having some pickles and kimchi to balance out some freshness with all of the deep-fried-ness.
The restaurant was very spacious (rare in Japan!), bright and modern. And an all-vegan menu was a treat.
Pros: 100% vegan, extensive food & drinks menu, excellent location
Cons: on the expensive side

Covers All Of The Osaka Essentials, And It's Not Bad - Edit
Slap bang in the middle of Dotonbori, you couldn't ask for a better location for a Vegan restaurant. If you're in Osaka, you're going to be here at some point, probably multiple times. And, honestly, there's not that many dedicated veggie options on the street itself, so I imagine this gets a lot of Vegan tourist footfall.
Read moreIt wasn't that busy when we were there, so there was no waiting, and the service was fast and very friendly (I wish I remembered the name of the young male server who attended to us, he really does deserve a shoutout). He went out of his way to explain the best way to eat each local dish and seemed to thoroughly enjoy doing so.
This was actually our first Osaka meal, so we did go out of our way to make sure we ordered all the local specialties that were available (no guarantee that veggie versions would be available elsewhere) and I think we got a fairly good experience. Takoyaki is obviously something we've always been curious about and the sauce and the fry on it, was delicious and gave us a good understanding as to why the dish is such a favourite. Unfortunately, the filling itself wasn't that pleasant, being excessively gluten-y and plain in taste. But again, we were grateful to get a general idea. Kushikatsu, we didn't know much about and didn't come across in that many other places during our trip. For all intents and purposes, it seemed like a tempura that used breadcrumbs in the batter. It was interesting, but our personal preference would definitely be for regular tempura. The texture is quite coarse.
We also had Yakisoba and gyoza. These we're familiar with and they did a pretty good job with them. Nice safe menu item for all the family to enjoy while we tried the new stuff.
There are elements of the service that could be improved. The bathroom is outside and far away to the point that you need a map to find it. With the crowds outside being what they were at that time, we had to opt for holding it. There was also the issue of them not accepting cash payments (not sure if this is still the case) but fortunately, our international card did work, but I imagine this could cause difficulties for other travellers.
Recommendation-wise, you'll probably be here at some point and it's definitely a solid place to try some local foods. Keep expectations in check and you'll be fine.
Pros: Location is fantastic, It's a full, cover-all menu. Lots of options, Excellent staff working during our visit
Cons: Stark, naked-white fluorescent lighting, Definitely are paying a premium for menu items, Not accepting cash payments, at least currently

Cash not accepted - only Credit Cards, IC cards etc... - Edit
Seeked out this restaurant due to the great reviews on here and travelled some distance to get to it to only be told that cash wasn't accepted. The website nor the pdf menu mentioned this. Being a foreign resident of Japan, credit cards are near impossible to apply for here but they didn't accept Japanese Cash Cards either. The only other option to pay is with an IC card which also isn't stated on the website. It would have been more helpful if they stated these things in the first place so I could have avoided a trip out. Just a heads up if anyone else falls into the same category and is unable to pay.

Good way to try takoyaki - Edit
Really enjoyed the restaurant in Osaka. It’s super easy to find and in a great location for seeing Dotonbori, going to the arcades or just shopping. The food was great. Being vegan, I’d never eaten takoyaki before. It was cool to get to eat something similar or based on this popular Japanese food. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

A gem within the busy Dotonbori - Edit
Was so happy to find this place despite going through the crowds in Dotonbori. Sadly, it wasn't full at peak dinnertime so I'm hoping more people would try this restaurant. The service was great and reasonably quick in comparison to other ones I've been to in Osaka. English menu is available and it is traditional Japanese food. I enjoyed the classic takoyaki and the soup of the day. It is a cashless pay system, so no need to bring cash.

Awesome spot and delicious food - Edit
Staff are very friendly!! The restaurant is in a really interesting spot with narrow streets and lots to see. The food was absolutely delicious. Just note the rice balls are just that, rice only with no filling - still delicious! Seems they cater mainly for tourists, with lots of travel brochures around to look at.
