I am a pretty strict vegan, other than not caring much about white sugar if there aren't really alternatives. I don't like beer/wine, so unsure if there are many vegan ones in the Bahamas. At restaurants, I am nice but very thorough with my questioning and I clarify no meat, dairy, egg, honey, etc. Also had to ask about GF for my partner as he is sensitive to it (cross contamination ok) I've been vegan 10y so I know what to ask. I emailed all restaurants months beforehand and also typically reminded them within a week of our arrival. Many menus have allergens like dairy and gluten marked, but typically not diets like vegan/vegetarian. PRO-TIP: bring some staples (bread, pb, jam) because they charge like x3 as much for basic grocery items here. They do sell almond milk. There was hummus, but no tofu on the island. FYI Amber in the casino puts honey in their piña coladas and do not have vegan food options.
PITA:
There was this little food place between the pool and ocean near the NE (?) side of the cove, behind those expensive day bed things. From Dolphin Cay, head towards the ocean/cove and it'll be on left. We had pita, hummus (GF), tabouleh (assumed wheat bulgur so not GF), cucumber salad (GF), tahini for dipping (GF), falafel (apparently also GF). Babaghanouj has dairy. The first time we ate here, everything was low in salt for my taste except tabouleh was high so I just basically mixed everything together. The 2nd time, everything had a more normal/even amount of salt.
The pita was a little thin and wimpy, not really pita pocket-able. AMAZING Miami Vice boozy drink (confirmed no dairy but unsure if marachino cherry on top had bug dye) that screams you're on an expensive vacay haha Staff kept saying they "don't serve allergy customers" but then they kept answering my millions of questions about egg, dairy, and gluten (for my partner) haha. Hopefully my post will help you not have to ask so many questions and annoy them. The only ingredients I personally read myself were for the pita.
