Read moreThe first thing I wanted after landing in JFK was a bagel sammy so Pio Bagel West really delivered. I ordered a toasted everything bagel with avocado and their scallion tofu spread in the middle to put it all together.
For about $12, I left with a massive, creamy bagel sandwich that took twice the amount of time for me to finish since it was so hearty. The bagels were toasted just right and the spreads hit the spot. I'm so glad they offer a veg option that isn't just hummus.

It’s a typical bagel shop but with 3 tofu cream cheese spreads. I tried the tofu scallion on everything bagel and it was delicious. They also have smoothies and fresh juices.

Tofu fillings for bagels. Tasty, cheap and big portion. Recommend the everything bagel with scallion tofu filling. Also had the garlic bagel and tofu vegetable filling but that wasn’t as good.

This tiny bagel shop offers a few vegan cream cheese spreads and juices; it is mostly for takeout but has some available seating. I had a bagel and cream cheese. It was quite tasty, with rich vegan cream cheese, though not particularly healthy.
Read moreVisitors to NYC should definitely try a NYC bagel--provided that they are warm and from a bagel shop (not a deli), it will likely be good, and most bagel shops do offer tofu cream cheese. This small bagel shop is pretty good, though my sense is that the bigger the bagel shop, the quicker the turnover and thus the fresher the bagels.

I asked the staff and they said most bagels do not contain animal products (they pointed out a couple which do). I had a pumpernickel with plain tofu spread and it was delicious.
