It is hit and miss unfortunately

We went there Sunday just gone. Disappointed.

I like this place a lot and been going for years but they have been on a downward spiral the last few years. They once served me a pie with a piece of plastic in it...

Anyway -Sunday 13th Aug 2023 we went for pies, they ignored us for about 15mins before taking our order.

Drinks came out and about 40mins later our pies came out.
They got the order wrong and mixed up what was wanted between me and my partner.

The food didn't look great to start with. Presentation was clear frozen food, heated - looked tired.

They took it back to the kitchen - a loud telling down by the older lady to the young server.

Ppl make mistakes,no big deal. They brought the re-plated food back out, but still not what we ordered. The young waitress took it back to the kitchen for a third time and could clearly be heard to be yelled at by the senior lady working there.
"EITHER YOU WROTE IT DOWN WRONG, OR THE CUSTOMERS ORDERED IT WRONG!!!"

She brought the third time re-plated food back out but by this point it looked like trash.
At this point we chose to leave.

The snr staff member was a dick to her under trained staff server and the vibe was a real downer.

They were not busy, i think 2 other small groups.

Such a shame as i really liked this place, but not sure i would go back at this point.

So lovely

I’ve come to pin and vinyl a few times now and the pies are always banging! So many to choose from whether your a meat eater or veggie or vegan! And to be able to mix and match your sides and pie is a fantastic idea. And with a decent price! (I had the veggie goats cheese, sweet potato and spinach pie with mash)

You have to go at the right time as it’s a small place, but that’s what makes it special and relaxed withal a quirky, vintage vibe to it. The people at worked there wear lovely and quick to get our drinks out and checked about wanting more.

As well as food just browsing in the vinyls and doing a cheeky buy adds to a nice lunch out 👌🏽

Pros: Good vibes, Student, nhs or military discount, Banging pies

Cons: Small so might have to come back in an hours time

Kitchen closes early

I will preface this isnt exactly a review more a word of warning. We arrived at 3pm (closing says 4pm) so we thought we would sit and have a pie. We were met with a fairly rude worker saying that the kitchen usually closes at 2:45 pm on a weekday, once he realised i wasnt from there he tried to be a bit nicer but i feel if you are going to close a kitchen over an hour before closing that needs to be stated somewhere. They also said they still had pies so i am not sure why they couldnt have pit one in the oven (i worked in a pie shop its usualy 15mins in the oven) or to sell as a frozen one. Anyway, just a warning if you are in the area and want to try.

Further there was no other sweets/cames to buy and it looked like they turned off coffee machine. So i am not sure what people do from 2:45-4pm...

Smashing Pies and fantastic setting!

So many people have recommended Pie and Vinyl over the years and have eventually visited. It didn’t disappoint, fantastic relaxed quirky, vintage setting, vinyl library to browse and delicious pies...we had spicy seitan kebab and gravy , best vegan pie I have eaten, pastry melted in the mouth ! What more could you ask for!

Pros: Delicious vegan pies, Lovely staff, Vinyl to buy

Cons: None

It’s good, but not perfect anymore

It’s been few years break since I’ve been last and maybe it’s due to me ordering GF pie, but the pastry was rock hard and the whole meal didn’t ooze with flavour. I like swede and carrot mash option added to the menu. Rather expensive compared to other places in portion size, flavour etc

Pros: Good choice of vegan pies, Felt the portion could be bigger

Cons: Mint and liquorice tea. Just asked for mint and , No warning it’s a blend with liquorice. Vile!

My fave restaurant in all of England!!

Recently took a 3 week trip around England and Wales with my daughter. This is by far my favourite restaurant in all of the UK!!! Cool place with the record shop and the old building. Neat part of town. Friendly and helpful staff. But, the food-AMAZING!!! The pie, mash, and peas were out of this world. I was so happy that as vegans we could partake in such an English tradition. I would have stayed in town longer had I known about this gem of a place. Two thumbs up!!

One of a kind

Cool little traditional pie and mash shop with a great atmosphere. Great to be able to browse through the vinyl whilst waiting for your food. Have tried the Kale-ing in the Name of and Pie-mosa both were lush they also do vegan mushy peas and mash. Staff more than happy to accept orders for collection provide they aren't too busy.

Pros: Decent portion sizes, Cosy and relaxed, Good location

Cons: Only 3 vegan options , Can be quite crowded when busy
