Lovely

Friendly staff, lovely setting and good food. Had the pleasure of being visited by some naughty monkeys who tried to steal our food. Make sure you put on mosquito spray as there were a lot.

Note: Quite expensive

No flavors, disappointing dining

Disappointing dinner experience at Pegaga, considering the high rated reviews here which elevated our expectations.

We ordered the Nasi Goreng Pegaga and the Rainforest Green Curry. Considering that we have lived in Malaysia for 7 years now, this was one of blandest, tasteless Nasi Goreng I ever had. There were no distinct flavors, it was salty and tad too oily.

The green curry had some flavors but no tofu.

The service was warm and friendly. The location is in the middle of the forest and open windows, which made it very hot for dining. The prices are high. Appreciate that it is a vegan restaurant but they need to really work on the food for the price it commands. Didn't intend to return even though I prefer fully vegan and vegetarian outlets

Too expensive

Food was nice but not special enough to justify the high price (3x other vegan places on langkawi). Service charge was added to bill and hidden on menu and the service wasn't great. Very nice location in the jungle but wouldn't go again.

Vegan in the jungle

Nestled up on a hill, straight in the jungle, this very unique restaurant offers some very delicious dishes and a breathtaking view through the trees onto the ocean. Summer rolls and especially the mushroom taco were to die for. Nasi Goreng well meant, with built in tempeh, but a little on the boring side. Anyway, the experience counts and that was 5 stars.

Pros: Excellent food, Beautiful setting

Cons: Service a little slow, Prices too high for portion size, More selection on the starters would be great

Lunch in the jungles😄

Pegaga is a lovely place with a cozy atmophere. The drive up is quite steep and the parking is very tight—which got us nervous for the car—and you do have to climb several steps to reach the entrance, but it’s worth it. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried, yet the food was prepared quickly. Portions are large and, though a bit expensive, the dishes are full of interesting, vibrant flavors. We enjoyed the sweet potato and pineapple masak lemak cili api, the jungle laksa, and a fresh pineapple smoothie

You need to ask for dessert menu, as they have it, but don’t show :)))

Nice setting but too expensive

Given the lack of vegan places on the island we wanted to give this place a try even tho it seemed a bit expensive. It’s in a nice setting/space with greenery around and there is one table in particular that has a nice view of the sea. The meals we had themselves were tasty - the rendang (which was v generous on the tempeh) and the pineapple/ sweet potato curry (less generous on substance)but they weren’t good enough to warrant the high price. We were the only people there in the evening and there was no music, so the ambiance was a bit dry. Plus, there were some cheeky monkeys who grabbed our rice so the kitchen had to redo that. Given it’s a restaurant in a resort, it lacks a little love and personality. Wouldn’t rush back.

Pros: Nice setting, Good view , Friendly staff

Good vibes

I came at about 4:30pm so the restaurant was empty, I had some very fresh rice paper rolls and mee goreng. Would like to try more things on the menu. Plus it’s surrounded by jungle. Definitely recommend.

Fully vegan place

One of the few fully vegan restaurants in Langkiwi.

Location is a bit hidden but just follow the sign. Surrounded by nature with a nice view.

Fully vegan menu with a mix of eastern and western dishes.

Food was delicious and the service was fast and friendly.
Prices are a bit higher than normal in Malaysian restaurants but definitely worth it.

Lots of tables inside so no need to reserve.

Pros: Fully vegan, Fast and friendly service, Payment by card possible

Cons: Prices are a bit higher than normal

Green curry

A beautiful setting - we enjoyed the green curry and fried rice but wasn’t the best curry we’ve had in Malaysia and expensive by local standards. Delicious wine - most on the wine list not available and the wine wasn’t chilled however.
We didn’t manage to come back for brunch but noted they do this with a morning yoga session too!

Beautiful food, beautiful location.

We went for dinner and it was empty besides us, but that only added to the peaceful environment.
The tacos to start were amazing, very delicious. The Mesak Lemak was also good, and the chocolate cake was rich and fudgey, but the ganache is what really made it.

Recommended for Vegans!

We visited Pegaga three times during our stay in Langkawi and really enjoyed it. It's quite quiet, and most other guests appeared to be hotel guests at Ambong Ambong, but non hotel guests were welcome too. All three times we visited, the windows were open so you could see the sea and nature around. One time we saw some monkeys playing in the trees (they stayed well away).

We had breakfast there twice. There's quite a few dishes on the menu. The French toast was too blackened for us the first time we had it, but improved on the second visit. It's a nice thick, soft bread served with purple dragon fruit, toasted almonds, and a pot of maple syrup.

The avocado toast was topped with mushrooms and tomatoes, and felt more like a mushroom toast than an avo one, with a good assortment of mushrooms. The bread was quite good but was a bit soft and could have done with being a bit firmer. It was possibly a bit oily, but still recommended.

The nasi lemak was excellent! The rendang was spicy and fragrant rather than super hot from chillies. The tofu and tempeh were great.

From the lunch/dinner menu we also tried a couple of dishes. The rainforest curry was ok. The sauce of the green curry was good, but the flat rice noodles it was served with did not feel like a good match for us. They were also served on a separate plate and we weren't quite sure how the dish was intended to be eaten. It was very spicy!

The rendang was both more straightforward and more delicious overall. There was loads of tempeh and that nice fragrant sauce from breakfast. A minor quibble is that the pickled vegetables were too sweet, but that always seems to be the case on this trip so perhaps that's just the Malaysian way.

The chocolate smoothies were fantastic, thick and cold and not too sweet. Quite a big glass too.

Service was generally fast and friendly. On one of our visits it was quite busy, and we were given a fruit plate while we waited and more staff were brought in to speed things up.

We struggled to find food that we were confident was vegan and would taste good, so this spot is highly recommended.

A hidden Treasure for vegan Food and hospitality

We were there for Lunch and had the Restaurant all to ourselves😊. We were so satisfied, that we went back several times👌. The dishes were delicious. You can ask for 'less spicy'. Thank me later 😉
The prices are appropriate for the high quality⚖️.
Dan was an excellent host🤗who took excellent care of us and gave us travel tips. Highly recommended for vegan food on Langkawi.

Pros: Friendliness, Ambience, Food

What an experience!

This restaurant deserves the 5 stars! Super friendly staff, fast service, cute restaurant and delicious food. The food was super tasteful and fresh. We loved it.😌 We had the falafel & hummus, Nasi goreng and the sweet potato & pineapple masak lemik cili api. All delicious. Very quiet tho and a bit on the expensive side.
Overall highly recommend!

Good food, but expensive

The food is great and portions are generous, but the prices are very high relative to Malaysia. The night we came, service was very slow (took over an hour to get the food), but seems like a one-off.

Pros: Tasty food

Cons: Expensive, Very quiet

Cute little restaurant in the forest

Pegaga is a cute little restaurant in the forest the serves tasty vegan food. I went for lunch and ordered the pegaga bowl and watermelon juice. It was delicious and the serving size was very generous. The food is all cooked fresh to order, so you do have to wait 10 or so minutes for the food but it is worth it. It is a 4 minute walk from Pantai Tengah and worth a visit.

Gorgeous Location, Gorgeous Food

According to an internet search the owner of this establishment has been vegan since 2017. I wouldn't call it expensive really unless $10/meal is a big ticket for you.

The americano coffee was beautiful, and extremely fresh. The Love Mee Goreng was a little bit ratchet and not my favorite nor as spicy as I would have liked despite several whole chilis and an extra dish of the same, but best efforts were appreciated!

Came back later and had the french toast with ice cream and it was fantastic. Loved it!

Highlight of the meal was the visit by a group of actual vegans (Macaques) who picked up a brown sugar packet I accidentally dropped (soz!) and hung out in the tree beside my table.

Magical setting in a cute, but simple dining room. In the evening it began to rain and the thunder shook the room for some much needed rain, giving a real nice tropical island vibe and a perfect end to my first Langkawi day.

I went back for dinner and holmes recommended the Laksa which was the best one I've ever had and then a complimentary dessert. It was incredible! So maybe I just don't like Mee Goreng. Not their fault.

Save your money.

Came here for breakfast after reading many reviews, and while we were expecting it to be expensive due to what other reviews had said, we left very dissapointed.

My partner had the red smoothie bowl which she couldn't finish as she said it tasted of pumpkin or sweet potato rather than a sweet smoothie bowl.

I had the nasi lemak (I may have spelled that wrong!) which was very simple, but massively salty and I didn't enjoy it. I took a photo after I'd eaten some of the rice and main component so you can get an idea of how simple it was.

Two pineapple juices each which were okay.

The setting is okay, although I wouldn't rave about it to be honest, and personally I find very quiet restaurants awkward and uncomfortable. I prefer some quiet background music but that's very personal.

Eating vegan is tricky in Malaysia so I'm grateful this place is doing something for that, but it needs to be better, especially better value if it truly wants to be special.

Just those two simple dishes and two pineapple juices came to RM103.40! 😳

Pros: It's all vegan which is great. , Nice setting, but not spectacular.

Cons: Very expensive., Food wasn't special or even that good. , Too quiet for me personally.

Thanks for the warning. $20 isn't so bad for two meals and to fresh juices. But of poor quality? Sounds like a greenwash by non-vegan owners to scam tourists of their concern for animals.

Best vegan food on Langkawi

A fantastic restaurant (which is a hotel restaurant so would recommend staying at this hotel to get the breakfast included in your stay) that offers some great food with huge portions on their menu. For breakfasts they have everything from smoothie bowls to avocado toast, to French toast and then more traditional Malaysian breakfast items. Lunch and dinner they have a wide variety of starters and main menu items. It will be difficult but try and leave room for desert! If you stay here, you’ll never want to leave your hotel because the food is that good.

Fantastic!

It's difficult to find vegan food on Langkawi but this vegan place delivers. Everything on their menu looks appetizing, their portions are huge, and thigh it took awhile for the food to come out, it tasted super fresh.

The restaurant itself has a gorgeous view and they give free water. Highly recommend this place.
