Beautiful food, beautiful location. - Edit
We went for dinner and it was empty besides us, but that only added to the peaceful environment.
Read moreThe tacos to start were amazing, very delicious. The Mesak Lemak was also good, and the chocolate cake was rich and fudgey, but the ganache is what really made it.

Recommended for Vegans! - Edit
We visited Pegaga three times during our stay in Langkawi and really enjoyed it. It's quite quiet, and most other guests appeared to be hotel guests at Ambong Ambong, but non hotel guests were welcome too. All three times we visited, the windows were open so you could see the sea and nature around. One time we saw some monkeys playing in the trees (they stayed well away).
Read moreWe had breakfast there twice. There's quite a few dishes on the menu. The French toast was too blackened for us the first time we had it, but improved on the second visit. It's a nice thick, soft bread served with purple dragon fruit, toasted almonds, and a pot of maple syrup.
The avocado toast was topped with mushrooms and tomatoes, and felt more like a mushroom toast than an avo one, with a good assortment of mushrooms. The bread was quite good but was a bit soft and could have done with being a bit firmer. It was possibly a bit oily, but still recommended.
The nasi lemak was excellent! The rendang was spicy and fragrant rather than super hot from chillies. The tofu and tempeh were great.
From the lunch/dinner menu we also tried a couple of dishes. The rainforest curry was ok. The sauce of the green curry was good, but the flat rice noodles it was served with did not feel like a good match for us. They were also served on a separate plate and we weren't quite sure how the dish was intended to be eaten. It was very spicy!
The rendang was both more straightforward and more delicious overall. There was loads of tempeh and that nice fragrant sauce from breakfast. A minor quibble is that the pickled vegetables were too sweet, but that always seems to be the case on this trip so perhaps that's just the Malaysian way.
The chocolate smoothies were fantastic, thick and cold and not too sweet. Quite a big glass too.
Service was generally fast and friendly. On one of our visits it was quite busy, and we were given a fruit plate while we waited and more staff were brought in to speed things up.
We struggled to find food that we were confident was vegan and would taste good, so this spot is highly recommended.

A hidden Treasure for vegan Food and hospitality - Edit
We were there for Lunch and had the Restaurant all to ourselves😊. We were so satisfied, that we went back several times👌. The dishes were delicious. You can ask for 'less spicy'. Thank me later 😉

This restaurant deserves the 5 stars! Super friendly staff, fast service, cute restaurant and delicious food. The food was super tasteful and fresh. We loved it.😌 We had the falafel & hummus, Nasi goreng and the sweet potato & pineapple masak lemik cili api. All delicious. Very quiet tho and a bit on the expensive side.

Good food, but expensive - Edit
The food is great and portions are generous, but the prices are very high relative to Malaysia. The night we came, service was very slow (took over an hour to get the food), but seems like a one-off.

Cute little restaurant in the forest - Edit
Pegaga is a cute little restaurant in the forest the serves tasty vegan food. I went for lunch and ordered the pegaga bowl and watermelon juice. It was delicious and the serving size was very generous. The food is all cooked fresh to order, so you do have to wait 10 or so minutes for the food but it is worth it. It is a 4 minute walk from Pantai Tengah and worth a visit.

Gorgeous Location, Gorgeous Food - Edit
According to an internet search the owner of this establishment has been vegan since 2017. I wouldn't call it expensive really unless $10/meal is a big ticket for you.
Read moreThe americano coffee was beautiful, and extremely fresh. The Love Mee Goreng was a little bit ratchet and not my favorite nor as spicy as I would have liked despite several whole chilis and an extra dish of the same, but best efforts were appreciated!
Came back later and had the french toast with ice cream and it was fantastic. Loved it!
Highlight of the meal was the visit by a group of actual vegans (Macaques) who picked up a brown sugar packet I accidentally dropped (soz!) and hung out in the tree beside my table.
Magical setting in a cute, but simple dining room. In the evening it began to rain and the thunder shook the room for some much needed rain, giving a real nice tropical island vibe and a perfect end to my first Langkawi day.

I went back for dinner and holmes recommended the Laksa which was the best one I've ever had and then a complimentary dessert. It was incredible! So maybe I just don't like Mee Goreng. Not their fault.

Save your money. - Edit
Came here for breakfast after reading many reviews, and while we were expecting it to be expensive due to what other reviews had said, we left very dissapointed.
Read moreMy partner had the red smoothie bowl which she couldn't finish as she said it tasted of pumpkin or sweet potato rather than a sweet smoothie bowl.
I had the nasi lemak (I may have spelled that wrong!) which was very simple, but massively salty and I didn't enjoy it. I took a photo after I'd eaten some of the rice and main component so you can get an idea of how simple it was.
Two pineapple juices each which were okay.
The setting is okay, although I wouldn't rave about it to be honest, and personally I find very quiet restaurants awkward and uncomfortable. I prefer some quiet background music but that's very personal.
Eating vegan is tricky in Malaysia so I'm grateful this place is doing something for that, but it needs to be better, especially better value if it truly wants to be special.
Just those two simple dishes and two pineapple juices came to RM103.40! 😳

Pros: It's all vegan which is great. , Nice setting, but not spectacular.
Cons: Very expensive., Food wasn't special or even that good. , Too quiet for me personally.
theNumberOfTheBeast
Thanks for the warning. $20 isn't so bad for two meals and to fresh juices. But of poor quality? Sounds like a greenwash by non-vegan owners to scam tourists of their concern for animals.

Best vegan food on Langkawi - Edit
A fantastic restaurant (which is a hotel restaurant so would recommend staying at this hotel to get the breakfast included in your stay) that offers some great food with huge portions on their menu. For breakfasts they have everything from smoothie bowls to avocado toast, to French toast and then more traditional Malaysian breakfast items. Lunch and dinner they have a wide variety of starters and main menu items. It will be difficult but try and leave room for desert! If you stay here, you’ll never want to leave your hotel because the food is that good.

Beautiful hotel with vegan restaurant in house and yoga studio - Edit
I stayed at Ambong Ambong hotel for a week and it was perfect. The hotel is small with only 20 studios or villas either in rainforest at top of hill or with pools at bottom. Everything has sea view. The in-house vegan restaurant (pegaga) is amazing for local food. The breakfast was so healthy and tasty each morning with beautiful fresh fruit and smoothies. There’s also an in house therapy centre and yoga studio with the most amazing people working there. It was like a one week retreat for me.

We went there for dinner. It’s a small place with a lovely ambiance. The location is excellent, and so is the food! We ordered starters, main dishes, and juices. The Rainforest Green Curry was spicy. I don’t get tempeh and tofu with it, but I didn’t care much as it was delicious.

We got the earth burger, love mee Goreng, as well as the carrot cake. It was all very delicious, expensive for Malaysian prices, but worth it. The burger was quite refreshing, and not heavy which is nice. The waitress was very kind & as soon as our cucumber water was empty, she would refill it. Lovely atmosphere

Incredible place - Edit
Our most expensive meal in Malaysia but a beautiful, peaceful location with great food. Really enjoyed sitting there looking out at the coast through the trees. Ended up being about RM 150 by the time we had the chocolate cake (couldn't not) so be aware this is pretty high end.

Great vegan nasi goreng - Edit
With little vegan options in Langkawi, we would recommend travelling to Pegaga, even if it’s slightly out of the way. We had a really tasty Nasi goreng which had tempe and tofu and the portion was HUGE. Also had mushroom tacos from the starter menu. The restaurant was a really nice vibe too. Only downside was it was quite expensive.

Delicious Food, Charming Spot, Friendly - Edit
Ate dinner at this charming vegan café last night ordered mushroom tacos, mushroom rendang, falafel with hummos and a green curry dish. Everything was amazing. Really, really kind and friendly staff. A charming spot up on a hill in Langkawi, Malaysia. We also tried the dragonfruit smoothie which was incredibly refreshing after the spicy and addictive rendsng.

Very good, very expensive - Edit
The food was amazing. Really tasty altough we had trouble with how spicy the satay sauce from the rainbow rolls and the green curry were. It was also probably the most expensive meal we've had in Malaysia. But also one of the best therefore 5 Stars.

Read moreThe menu changes for breakfast, which might have the stronger food choices.
The staff are attentive and often offer gratis snacks, as well as being very friendly.
For the price, you’re paying for the view really. The congee is decent and reasonably priced, but I’ve had far cheaper vegan options that are just as tasty, if not more, in Europe. £7 for a falafel wrap seems excessive for the region. Might be the “island tax”, but it loses points for that from me.

Beautiful place - Edit
We ate here for breakfast twice and the food and atmosphere were wonderful. The second time the service was very slow. The staff is very friendly. The French toast was excellent but a pricey since the portion was a out half the amount needed. The rice congi was delicious and so was the dish that was coconut rice served with a mushroom and tempe dish. Be sure to look for hornbills, monkeys and flying lizzards while you are there.

Wonderful - Edit
We spent 4 nights at Ambong Ambong retreat, which includes a really high quality 3-course complimentary breakfast at Pegaga. There’s a wide selection of food and drinks (all vegan), and the staff are really welcoming and kind. We speak a little Malay, but all the staff spoke English really well, so communication wasn’t an issue at all for us. The restaurant itself is stunning - you can enjoy some really amazing food whilst watching monkeys, hummingbirds, squirrels and lots of other wildlife up close in the surrounding rainforest, and you’ve got an amazing view of the beach and ocean too! The atmosphere was idyllic.
Read moreThe food was so good that we ended up eating here at every opportunity, and we definitely would have eaten dinner there too if they were open in the evenings. They were also really accommodating with my nut allergy, which had proven to be quite tricky at a lot of other places we visited.
Prices are pretty comparable with most other vegan/veggie places we ate at in Malaysia, although you can definitely find cheaper if you go off the beaten track a bit. Coming from the UK, it was really reasonable, and again, the quality was exceptional.
I highly recommend visiting if you’re in Langkawi.
Pros: Excellent food, Really lovely staff, Great setting and atmosphere
