Delicious organic vegan lunch - Edit

Peach Valley restaurant at the Miho Museum has several vegan, or veg-friendly , reasonably priced lunch options. I has the best chilled tofu ever, as part of the rice ball set, which the waiter was careful to make vegan for me, checking with the kitchen staff over every detail.

There's also a bakery counter next to the register selling sourdough baguettes, loaves and rolls, and displays selling teas, oils , etc.

A complete lunch for two cost 3200JPY and options included buckwheat soba, tempura veggies, pickles, green tea, miso soup, onigiri . All the ingredients were flavorful, and perfectly cooked or marinated. Definitely worth visiting when the museum is open for lunch, or coffee, tea , dessert.

Unlike many museum cafes, this one is reasonably priced and serves top quality food.

Location: a day trip from Kyoto in Shiga province: take the JR Biwako line from Kyoto station to Ishiyama, then Teisan bus 150 to Miho Museum (bus costs 820JPY each way). Or, take Tozai subway from Kyoto to Yamashina, change to JR Biwako line, to Ishiyama, then Bus 150, as above.

Pros: Vegan and veg options , Generous portions , Organic

Cons: Lunch only

Great weekend hideout! - Edit

About an hour from downtown Kyoto, up in a mountain in Shoga prefecture.
This museum is 95% hidden into the mountain in order to feel the oneness with nature.... Amazing architecture!!
All the dishes are bio-dynamically grown and the taste so good!!
When you order spaghetti ask for a bit of olive oil (amazingly good!! They don't sell it in anywhere!!)
