nice option in mountain town - Edit

Vegan options are very clearly marked, even if staff don’t speak English. Big portions, casual relaxed atmosphere.

Simple but delicious vegetarian & vegan dishes - Edit

The vegan part of the menu is simple but very delicious: Salad, Pita, Wrap, Burger, Soup.
The service is very friendly and helpful. We will come again! :)

Bad choice - Edit

Can't recommend, place is definitely not ethical. Two dirty and very poor fish tanks right in the middle of the restaurant dont fit in a veggie restaurant concept to me. So you got such a sad view. Burger was lame and juice was sirup in tab water. Also they did not have any plant based milk-options.Dirty table and staff forced a hungry cat out. Animal friendly looks different.

Cons: Two dirty fish tanks inside the restaurant , Staff kicks hungry cat out, Small portion

Nice - Edit

We went here for dinner and both had the vegan soy burger. It was good although they did put mayonnaise on the burger. It was very busy so may have just been a mistake, we managed to scrape it off so it wasn't a problem for us but if you're ordering vegan food maybe make sure to say if you're vegan. There were lots of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu.

Pros: Good selection of vegan and vegetarian food

Cons: Mayonnaise on the vegan burger

Nice veggie local food place - Edit

The menu's about half vegan half vegetarian plus a selection of smoothies. The vegan wrap is pretty good. I think the owners only speak Spanish and we had a bit of a misunderstanding where she thought I asked for two wraps and I said yes thinking they come two on one plate like the burritos, and I got two plates of the wraps meal. Oops. So yeah, although it says "wraps" (plural) on the menu, it's actually one wrap.

I think this is the same place as Paz y Flora since I couldn't find the latter except an old sign pointing in the same direction as this place.

Delicious! - Edit

Lovely place with outdoor seating, cheery staff, speedy service. Loads of vegan options with menu clearly divided into vegan and vegetarian. Yummy fruit shakes/milk shakes with soya and almond milk available. Delicious vegan garlic dip with the burger. Vegan chocolate cake!!!
Address on Happy Cow is currently wrong but is roughly right on Google maps (under ‘Passiflora’)

Lovely owner good food - Edit

The restaurant looked closed, but we went to the backpackers hostel below and he called the owner who was more than happy to open up and serve us.
She doesn't speak any English- so I couldnt double check that everything was vegan.
Menu was good though

Pros: Nice owner, Good menu, Nice vibe

Cons: Non English speaking, Not sure everything was really vegan, Doesn't always look open

great little place! - Edit

This place is great! There's a ton of choices for vegetarian and vegan alike! We had the lentil burger and the Casado with soy meat. They were both delicious. Children had the quesadilla and the pasa with red sauce...yummy! 2 and 5 yr olds finished their plates completely! Only thing we didn't like were the French fries, but this had no impact on our impression of this place. Highly recommended!

Pros: great variety, veggies, perfectly cooked pasta - al dente

Cons: French fries, no wine

Perfect Lunch Veg*n Lunch Spot! - Edit

Amazing selection of fresh, delicious juices (con leche o con agua!) and plenty of quick and tasty veggie options to choose from. We had one of their burritos and one of their wraps. They were a little skimpy on the french fries, but maybe that's a good thing, considering we were eating way too much of everything else while on vacation...

Pros: Juices, juices, juices!!!, Very nice menu with lots of good options!

Cons: A few more french fries, please ;)

Great food and service - Edit

We really enjoyed our lunch here, just what we needed after a long hike through the Monteverde reserve. Fantastic service and great food. We had the hamburgers and really loved the soy meat patty. And of course, we had to try the vegan chocolate cake as well! Highly recommend.

Yummy Vegan Food! - Edit

I looked up Passiflora here on HappyCow before my trip to Costa Rica. Being Vegan I needed to know my options ahead of time :) So glad we went here! It was a bit hard to find, but there are some signs in the town of Santa Elena to guide you there. I had the Arroz de Jardinero which was so flavorful. Also had some fruit drinks local to Costa Rica. Great food at a great price. Gracias & Pura Vida!

Pros: friendly staff, easy to read menu, delicious!

Cons: kind of quiet

vegetarian choice in Monteverde - Edit

We were starving after our adventurous drive to Monteverde and were happy to find this vegetarian restaurant.
My son and I had the Casado. It included rice, beans, a salad, plantains, mixed veggies and a vegetarian patty. It was delicious and cost $10. My husband had a burrito which he said was very good.
The woman who served us was very friendly and let us know which items could be made vegan.

Pros: vegan options, friendly service

Not even completely vegetarien - Edit

We went to this restaurant expecting it to be vegetarian. But besides the vegan and vegetarien options the menu also offered many meat dishes. Therefore I suppose the label of the restaurant should be changed to vegan-friendly.
The food we ordered was quite okay. The mango salad is very recomendable.

Pros: cozy atmosphere, fair price

Cons: meals differ from description in menu, not vegetarien

So happy to find this place! - Edit

My boyfriend and I had lunch here after an exhilarating zipline adventure through the Monteyverde Cloud Forest. The cook/server/owner? was very nice and grateful for our business. The building was beautiful-tiles a large buddha and colored tiles that formed a beautiful tree on the front of it, and beautiful flowers planted all around. An absolutely beautiful bird came and landed in the tree outside and we were told that bird has lived nearby for four generations and is not afraid of people-so cool! Anyways the food was absolutely delicious and as always it's great to be able to choose from the entire menu as they are strictly a vegetarian restaurant. Also it was not expensive at all, so that's always a bonus.

Pros: All vegetarian, Beautiful building and surroundings, Delicious!

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN COSTA RICA - Edit

Paz Y Flora was by far the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant I went to during my three months in Costa Rica. The presentation is beautiful, the flavors are satisfying and every meal has many different colors. I loved the squash soup with coconut milk on top and the mango salad with passion fruit dressing. They grow the passion fruit in their backyard! Which reminds me to say that all of the ingredients are so fresh! And many of the ingredients they use are not common in other costa rican restaurants but are good sources of vitamins and minerals for vegetarians and vegans. This is a place you must visit!

Pros: Presentation, Colorful Foods, Fresh Foods

Cons: Hard to find, No outdoor seating
