An old favourite! - Edit
New ownership made the menu dip a bit but it's back on the rise and very tasty.

A return has illuminated that quality has really improved! Our latest meal was a knockout, drinks and food. This place is back to #1 for breakfast/brunch for us.

Pros: Food is top notch, Smoothies are excellent, Presentation for social media great
Cons: Was asked to promote on social media, No specials (at least not obvious to us), Menu is both crowded and limited

So yummy here! And so considerate when I forgot to mention my nut allergy and had to remove a part of my dish💗 They even replaced that part for me when they didn't have to, it was my mistake after all. Thanks ladies!

I chose this place to catch-up with a friend who's gluten intolerant because the menu has plenty of options for both of us. I had been once pre-pandemic and remembered the cafe being cute and the food tasty. I'm happy to see they've survived and haven't increased the prices much either.
Read moreI got the VIP burger which was very substantial at $24 with big chunks of smoky shiitake "meat" tumbling out, stuffed with plenty of fresh salad, crispy rice paper bacon, dripping with cheesy sauce, served with a side of home cut chips. I enjoy pineapple on a burger so all the flavours came together nicely for me. My friend didn't rate the nachos though, as they're cold and have weird toppings, such as apple slaw and fried shallots. Each to their own! I also had an iced mocha with oat milk which was sweet and strong but probably not worth $8 in my opinion.

Eating the rainbow - Edit
I loved my visit to particle cafe. Shared some nachos and the avo smash. The nachos have apples on them and for some reason that might be my new favourite nachos topping. Don’t knock it till you try it.

Alimentary Particle - Edit
I ticked off another cafe I hadn’t visited since COVID when we caught up for lunch with a friend. It all came flooding back as we approached the cafe on the corner of the busy-with-traffic-but-not-people street. I’d made a last-minute change to our booking, and realised that these go to the owner rather than the cafe and so there was a delay, meaning my change hadn’t been made. No matter, there was a table available. Although it was before midday and I might normally have defaulted to something breakfasty, the burgers looked more substantial (read: pricier) so we went for the chicken burger and the BBQ jackfruit burger. Each had a sweet element I could’ve done without - pineapple in the former, BBQ sauce in the latter - but were sufficiently moist and not entirely lacking in flavour. The highlight was the tempeh bacon in the jackfruit burger: just the right thickness, crispy and tasty, although perhaps not convincing as bacon, which I don’t really care about. The menu has a good selection and the cafe is a cool little space. I’m really valuing and trying to support completely vegan cafes at the moment because many haven’t survived either the lockdown or skyrocketing inflation.

Yep, ok - Edit
Ate at Particle a few years ago on a warm summer day and was blown away by the freshness and colour of the food we ordered. I ate at the cafe yesterday, and everything sort of seemed tired or out of kilter from the previous experience. Maybe the weather didn't help...it felt like it wanted to snow in Melbourne, and when my nachos arrived, they were more salad than a hearty bowl of warmth and spices. Long strings of julienne vegs and drippy dressing meant I was wiping my chops after every mouthful - felt like a mucky eater. However, the flavour was there, and the coffee was good.

Friendly inviting cafe, creative food - Edit
The nachos were presented as a work of art!! It was entirely unexpected with pink (vegan) sour cream and chopped apples in it but my husband and I agreed it was some of the best nachos we had had.

Some amazing dishes - Edit
I've been here heaps before and always get the tofu scramble and/or the loaded nachos. There was a new additional menu when we were there yesterday, and thought I'd try the Classic Breakie. The description was really misleading, as it wasn't clear that it was not a breakfast plate, but a breakfast sandwich. I wouldn't have ordered it if I had known. It was ok, the tofu scramble was very tasty, but it was slightly overpowered by the lemony avo. The alfalfa sprouts were a very old school, and not very welcome, garnish.
Read moreMy partner got the corn cheese jaffle, which also has herbed mushrooms in it. It wasn't great, the ingredients don't really work together, and it wasn't a substantial filling, like what I'm used to at other jaffle places.
We both decided we would definitely order our go to's next time, which is delicious, and made the mediocre meal this time even more disappointing.
We also bought some sweets to take away. The mini banana muffin was fine, the chocolate icing was nice, strangely was garnished with parsley. The choc chip cookie was very disappointing, it was mainly made using oats, and didn't taste like what I would expect of something labelled choc chip cookie. The notella oat cookie was very raw tasting.
Pros: Delish tofu scramble and loaded nachos
Cons: Misleading names on some items

Went for birthday brunch.

Coffee unfortunately wasn't anymore than serviceable and the milk was definitely burnt but it was drinkable.
The big positive of the experience was definitely the food, both dishes were amazing! Loved them both.
Overall was a decent morning out, will be back on account of the food!
Bonus points for the takeaway dessert cabinet options, they were amazing

Concerned about substitutes - Edit
I have eaten at this cafe a few times, giving the food a few chances, but unfortunately the food didn't sit right in my stomach and I always broke out in bad acne/rashes afterwards. I am not sure whether it is due using more of the non refined sugar ( the smoothie bowl made me shake afterwards due to the high non refined sugar content?) or oils to make the food palatable or the man made chemicals such as genetically modified soy lecithin ( man made) , preservatives, additives, used to substitute for the meat and cheese ? I didn't notice 100% pure organic stevia as a non refined sugar substitute but maple syrup which is rather high in sucrose, as a sweetener for the coffee? Maple syrup and even agave nectar ( which is high in fructose, leads to fat deposition in the liver) are just other names for sugar whether it be refined or non refined. The milk didn't seem right to me at all as I make my own plant based milk from scratch and I noticed a huge difference in the taste and quality probably due to the additives used to thicken the milk, such as the artificial soy lecithin? I also hope that any food not used or wastage here is donated to Food Bank, OzHarvest and Second Bites.
