Papa but not daddy - Edit
Nice to see a vegan option and the curry sauce was good but not really what we were hoping for.

Great food but long waits - Edit
We had tofish and chips with beans, mushy peas and a slice of bread with no butter. Plus apple juice and water.
Read moreThe other vegan option was a cauliflower pie (which we didn't get).
The tofish was great and chips were beautiful. Mushy peas were dry and apple juice was 100% watered down!
Overall, it was quite expensive and the service was very poor... over an hour wait for food. But, when it came, the tofish and chips were great.
Would visit again.
Pros: Tofish and chips, Location
Cons: Long wait time

Yay for chippy chips! - Edit
So nice to have a couple of vegan main options on the menu, plus some of the sides clearly labelled, too.
Read moreHad the tofish and chips with a side of mushy peas. This was very nice.
A little pricey, I thought for what it was, but I was still happy to pay it for a vegan chippy option when in town for the theatre/special occasion.
Shame they don't have any vegan desserts, though!
A strange little observation, normally I use a lot of vinegar on my chips, so much so that you can feel it in your eyeballs 🤣 but I did put a lot on and it wasn't very strong!

Great Chippy Option - Edit
Bang on the Central Promenade and obviously take their vegan options seriously. Everyone mentions the Tofish but consider the Cauliflower pie too. Sides of peas, beans, mushy peas and curry all marked vegan too.

My first tofu fish, would go again! - Edit
Has a decent amount of vegan options, the tofish is amazing, chips could be a little better but the vegan sauces more than make up for it; yum!

Great vegan chippy option! - Edit
Had Tofuish and chips with mushy peas from the takeaway bar at the side to go eat on the promenade. The chips and batter were great and traditional chippy style. The tofu was bland, previously I've had fake fish where there is a layer of seaweed in there too which would have worked well. Not the cheapest place either but overall was happy with what I had, would go again!

Delicious Tofish and chips with mushy peas. Daughter had chips & curry sauce. Washed down with a pint of Guinness. Great service and a reasonable price.

Poor Service - Edit
Very poor service. They got the order wrong, then served the mushy peas and curry sauce ages after the tofish and chips. The mushy peas were cold and when they were sent back they were not replaced. When I later asked for them the waitress tutted loudly, and rolled her eyes as if I was the problem. It's a shame the service was so poor because the food itself was pretty good.

Solid vegan option(s) - Edit
We had the tofuish and chips, with curry sauce, and it was the real deal. Proper ‘fish’ and chips - and the place was dog friendly too! It was £33 for two mains, two sides, and two soft drinks. They also had a cauliflower & spinach pie which was vegan.

Tofish and chips - Edit
Really enjoyed the tofish. Batter was lovely and crispy. Chips were chunky traditional chippy chips. I ordered mushy peas and curry sauce too and they were really tasty. The curry sauce had a rich fruitiness to it. It was great to be able to have an equalivalent dish to my Omni friend. I'd definitely recommend Papa's to anyone visiting Blackpool 👌

Vegan tofish - Edit
So yes they had a vegan option. But it wasn't the best. If I went again I'd just get beans & chips and save a fortune.

Amazing service, and a great vegan option! - Edit
I am so impressed with Papa's. First of all, the service was absolutely incredible, the staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. Even though it was a busy Saturday night, they maintained a great, helpful attitude.
Read moreA lot of reviews I have seen were unsure on the vegan "Tofish and Chips" and honestly, again, it was amazing.
The batter of the tofu was amazing, while the tofu itself wasn't seasoned I don't think it needed it, the batter brought enough flavour and was really crispy, the chips were also great.
If you're iffy about tofu then maybe it's not for you, but I'd recommend trying it anyway even just for the batter.
Would really recommend the place, the only thing stopping me from a 5 star is price and the tofu could have been brought up with a layer of seaweed.

Nice to be able to have a chippy with my family and not just have chips. Staff were friendly, was really busy but didn’t wait long for food and it was delicious!

Staff don't know menu - Edit
I went to the takeaway bit rather than the restaurant. There was no menu. Asked him if he had Tofish. He said yes and asked me if I would like gluten free chips as well. I said no.. he looked a bit surprised. Paid and checked receipt - it clearly stated Tofish.
Read moreHe handed me over a box with chips and what looked like battered fish on top. I double checked with him if it was Tofish and he looked down at it and assured me it was and was cooked in a separate fryer. These days things that are vegan look more and more like the real thing so I accepted what he said as what more could I ask?
Well, I should have made it clear I wanted battered Tofu. Because lo and behold it was fish. I think he thought Tofish was just gluten free fish? Was odd.
He clearly knew I had asked for Tofish as he put it on the receipt. If it was a case of him picking up the wrong dish, then that's still an issue.
Pros: Staff were friendly at least
Cons: Did not give me a vegan option which I ordered

Tofish and Chips!! - Edit
Battered tofu and chips with mushy peas, gravy and curry sauce (all vegan and gluten free), pretty good and nice to have a seaside tea 🌊😊 long queues and waited a while for takeaway as they go and make the tofu dish fresh. Be prepared it is just batter and tofu - I enjoyed it but if tofu isn’t your thing then you’ll think it’s plain

Avoid unless only option - Edit
Reviews led me to believe this was a good choice. Food took an hour to arrive and sides were not included until asked for.
Read morePoor hygiene (hair with chips)
However, the 'tofish' option was tofu battered and fried with no attempt to make it 'fishy' as most other restaurants do.
If it is your only option then it is edible but overall I would not recommend it.
Pros: A vegan option
Cons: Poor service, Poor hygiene, Unappetising

Ok - Edit
We went there and had the tofish and chips. All in all everything was nice. Staff really friendly, place modern an tidy. Price totally ok. Size of servings really good. But the Tofish was literally cutted plain Tofu pieces in batter. We had to ad a lot of salt lemon and Ketchup. But nice kind of basic fastfood.

Disappointment - Edit
I was looking forward to visiting this place as they had the option of vegan fish and chips.
Read moreThe menu listed Tofish and chips.
The service was great and the place was clean and well presented.
The food arrived, which I had tofish, chips, gravy and mushy peas.
The tofish was just cubes of silken tofu deep fried in batter. And as all vegans will understand, unless tofu is prepared and flavoured, the tofu is rather bland and tasteless. Which in this case, it was.
The chips are vegan friendly as they do fry separately from meat and fish products. And the gravy is also vegan friendly.

I was just about to head there and order the tofish but silken tofu makes me really sick so I’m glad I saw this review! Thank you

Best vegan and gluten free 'tofish' and chips in Blackpool - Edit
We noticed this place be chance when passing and tried the takeaway. The staff were very helpful and explained that all the sides were vegan and gluten free and they use separate fryers. The chips were delicious so we returned the following week to try the restaurant. Again, very friendly staff. The portion size was great, four pieces of battered tofu and a large portion of chips and the sides (curry, gravy and mushy peas) were delicious. There is plenty of gluten free options also which was a bonus for me, and even the vinegar is gluten free.
