Serves meat, vegan options available. Has vegan empanada and apple empanada. Relocated from 3483 Castro Valley Blvd. Open Mon-Wed 7:30am-2:30pm, Thu-Sat 7:30am-8:30pm, Sun 7:30am-2:30pm.
This place has moved and is now next to Trader Joe’s on Redwood Rd. Not a lot of vegan food to be had in this town so I’m glad they have some options here. Update: see comment
Addended to say I was in here recently, ordered a couple vegan empanadas and they served me one with meat. When I took it back the cashier just acted dumb. I stood there waiting for him to offer me money back and finally just walked out. Won’t be going back!
There were two empanadas when I went that were vegan. None sweet only savory. Another review said it takes a while but mine were fast so no complaints there.
The empanada were a bit disappointing for me bc they weren’t flaky. The filling was flavorful though. The coffee was really good but they had the oat milk upcharge.
There was a little free library inside where you could get a book or leave a book and I loved that. There were only a few stools and it’s mostly a grab and go, or eat/drink fast and leave. There are small tables outside but I went in December so it wasn’t too comfortable to sit there. Not a good place to hangout, which for me was a bit of a bummer.
Small cute cafe that bakes a bunch of non-vegan empanadas but has one that is vegan. I was told all the sweet ones use butter. The vegan one has peas, olives, tomatoes, onions, and potatoes and was excellent. It was already made and still warm from the oven. They’re a little small by most standards, (especially at $4 a pop) so would take at least 3-4 to make a full meal. Tasted very healthy without compromising taste, and we appreciate that they aren’t deep fried.
They have a savory vegan empanada and a sweet one. For a place that is meat and dairy based, their vegan options are delicious! The empanadas are a little pricey, but in my opinion worth it! And they are a good size. Also they are made to order ( especially the vegan ones), which I love because you are guaranteed a hot empanada. The wait for them is approx. 12 minutes, so if you want to be in and out try calling ahead of time. If you got time to spare they have a couple small tables. Cute little authentic place!
