Good vegetarian option - Edit

I really enjoyed my meal at this paladar, which is an easy walk from the center. As the previous reviewer states, it is located in an old colonial house that is really nice. There was also live music when I was there and the place was quite crowded, so it may be a good idea to reserve.

My drinks were great (side cars). I ordered a salad and asked lots of questions to make sure it was vegan... the waitress asked for a salad "sin leche" and it came out with yogurt! She apologized when she realized and they made me another salad that was super good and different from the salad you get everywhere in Cuba. There was cabbage, papaya, cucumber, sauteed green beans, etc.

For my main, I had the chickpea curry, which was excellent.

Pros: Friendly staff, Chickpeas!

Cons: Better to reserve

Refreshing change in Trindad's culinary landscape - Edit

There aren't many places in Cuba that consider vegetarians by offering dedicated dishes (other than meat-free side dishes), less still ones that offer dishes from different parts of the world with flavours not commonly found in the country. Sol y Son is a rare exception, with an 'Oriental Menu' that offers a delicious choice of a dry veggie curry, a fresh chick-pea curry in a creamy sauce and, la piece de resistance, a mouth-watering eggplant curry. While it may not be 100% authentic Indian, it is at least a brave attempt to offer something meat-free, different and tasty - and it succeeds wonderfully in just that. The ambience of the place is also charming - an old house (with beds and grand furniture still dotted around the rooms) and a beautiful courtyard that would be the perfect place to propose. Prices are reasonable, servers attentive (though very limited in their English) and there's even a delicious choice of lassi drinks available if you really want the Indian experience. Yum!
