My biggest regret in Porto: Not finding Guará sooner! - Edit
I wish I had discovered Guará Restaurant & Bakery on my very first day in town. If I had, I would have been back every single day to try a different meal and a different pastry! The menu has the perfect amount of options, and as a traveller, I was absolutely delighted to try some authentic, traditional Portuguese food. The Francesinha was incredibly flavourful and hit all the right notes, and the Pastel de Nata was nothing short of sensational.Beyond the food, the service was superb. The staff are so helpful, warm, and knowledgeable. My only constructive tip for future diners? Do not make my mistake—make this your very first stop in the Porto area so you have time to go back for seconds!

Platis portugueses imprescindibles - Edit

The best 🤩 - Edit
Such a lovely and welcoming restaurant! The food is fresh, homemade and full of flavour, and the staff always make us feel genuinely cared for. I have been a customer for many years and have had the pleasure of watching them grow — their dedication and passion are clear in everything they do. We had another wonderful experience and will certainly return!

One Of Our Favourites! - Edit
Me and hubby are regulars here, we come here for almost every special ocasion. The staff is incredible, they are so friendly, happy and nice to us everytime we come here, this restaurant is almost like family to us! Hubby absolutely loves to come here. The inside is beautifully decorated, cozy and comfortable with romantic lights. The only downside is the location in the middle of Vila Nova de Gaia, parking here is horrendous.
Read moreThey have so much variety in their menu, we tried almost everything and we always try new things, they are always inovating their menu and we love that. They also listen to their costumers and try to add or remove things from dishes or the menu accordingly which tells you how much they care about their costumers' satisfaction.
Hubby always eats the francesinha. It's very meaty, not too spicy, very cheesy and delicious. Hubby says it's the best francesinha he has eaten in any restaurant!
I have a hard time eating things here since most of the menu flares up my acid reflux (IBS) but since the menu is so diverse, there is always something I can eat without feeling sick. I normally eat side dishes and avoid the main courses.
Since this is a bakery, they always have different salty pastries that are filled with different things and they also always have pizza. The pasteries can be filled with different meat substitutes like tuna, chourizo, pizza, cheese, etc. There are so many kinds but it also depends on the day you come, they vary their menu a lot, so you can't expect the same pasteries to always be there everyday. I'm a bit of a difficult costumer but they always accomodate and help me with anything I need. They truly are angels here!
They also have so many sweet pastries and we always try something there! They are always delicious, soft and filling.
The restaurant is a bit pricey but we always leave satisfied, full and happy, it is very worth it!
If you are ever in Vila Nova de Gaia, don't miss this restaurant, you will regret not trying their dishes!

Great portuguese food - Edit
We really enjoyed this on our recent trip to Porto. We had a francesinha, which was the best vegan francesinha we tried, and mock duck rice (the name I have since forgotten). Staff were friendly and welcoming, and even gave us two donuts for free as we left.
Read moreThe restaurant is a bit far away from the centre of town, and it was a pretty uninspiring walk up here with some rain to boot, but I can't blame them for that! Seems like a popular spot for locals as well.
They had Vegan Pastel de Natas that looked great but I regret that we didn't try them, we were completely stuffed!

Cozy dinner & the best cheesecake in Porto - Edit
On our last night in Porto, we finally made it to Guará and it was the perfect way to end the trip. The space is cozy, the staff are incredibly friendly, the food was fantastic. We had burgers and cheesecake, and honestly, it might have been the best cheesecake we’ve ever had.

True Gem in Gaia, Guará Restaurant & Bakery Formerly known as Padoca (renamed to avoid confusion with another place in Porto). - Edit
Absolutely fantastic experience at Guará Restaurant & Bakery!
Read moreFrom the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by a cozy and vibrant atmosphere, perfect for lunch or dinner. The team was incredibly attentive and friendly, ready to explain the menu and give great suggestions. The food itself was exceptional, full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with real passion and creativity. Even non-vegans are blown away by the taste and quality! 💚
The menu offers such inventive plant-based options that you forget you’re at a vegan restaurant, with delicious twists on classics like the vegan francesinha and savory bakery items. And don’t even get me started on the desserts , they are a real highlight and worth saving room for!
It’s also worth mentioning the story behind the name change (to avoid confusion with another Padoca in Porto) but trust me, this place stands on its own as a must-visit in Gaia/Porto for anyone who loves great food.
Highly recommended, I’ll definitely be back!

It used to call A Padoca (more like a bakery), but now it's called Guará, and it's a restaurant. A few options of burgers, and other dishes with tofu or other proteins with rice or salad. It was well made, tasty and good looking dishes. They also have desserts and other bakery things like croissants. Friendly staff. It was very busy around 1PM.
