Cheap and very very good - Edit
I loved how flavourful it was, I had the Khao SOI and it was amazing. It was so cheap, compared to some other veg places in Chiang Mai. Can't wait to go and try new items

No frills local vegetarian eatery where almost everything is vegan or can be made vegan by taking out the eggs.

Quick, Good Price, Tasty - Edit
It was busy with locals eating which is always a good sign! Food was quick. Loads of options and was tasty! Really good price. We recommend the fried ch*cken. Free drinking water.

Good menu with vegan meats - Edit
Kitchen/canteen vibe, chilled out, ordered vegan chicken and rice, it came with some spicy dressings and you’re allowed to take from the salad section at the counter. Not luxury but a good, varied menu.

Tasty and great value - Edit
Large separate vegan menu. Super reasonable prices for tasty meals. Vegan ‘meat’ options. We had morning glory with vegan pork, long beans with vegan pork and red pork with rice plus an extra rice for 2 of us (one very hungry!) - portions not large - but was still under 200 baht all up.

Haven’t had pork in years so thought I’d try their option. Free add salad option too. 50-70 baht mostly. Separate vegan menu.

Great food near Old Town - Edit
We chose this place for our first meal in Chiang Mai, and we loved it!
Read moreWe had yellow noodles with vegan pork in curry soup (position 52 in the menu), pad Thai, and coconuts. All dishes were great, with lots of vegetables, not overly spicy, not oversalted, and no artificial taste. Everything was also super cheap.
I highly recommend this place.
On Google Maps, you can find it under the name Payod Shan Food.
Pros: Free water, Wide choice of dishes, Nice interior (sheltered & breezy)
Cons: None!

Big fan - Edit
I was really impressed by both the food and the prices. The mock meats were great. Service was also very fast. Communication was a bit tricky due to their limited English skills but the menu had pictures so it wasnt a real issue.

Amazing food for very cheap - Edit
Tasty northern Thai food! We visited twice in 4 days as it was so tasty. Service is quick and the food is so cheap. Everything is vegetarian and you just need to specify no egg to veganise some dishes.

So friendly - Edit
The entire menu is vegetarian and can likely be made vegan just by asking for ‘no egg’ at the counter. The staff are very friendly and the food was delicious and cheap! No more that 50B

Payod shanfood Chiang Mai - Edit
This restaurant has amazing vegetarian and vegan options. All the food here tastes great, and is up there for the best value for money I have found in Thailand! Menu is well written and easy to know what's vegan (just take eggs off for some items)

One of my favorites - Edit
Unfortunately I found this restaurant way too late on my trip but I still made it happen to go there twice and it was special every time. They have a huge menu so it's almost impossible to choose one dish. You have to write your order down and bring it to the staff. If you're vegan just write no egg since they don't use milk in their dishes anyway.
Read moreBoth times I went there I had a dish with their tomato broth which tastes absolutely incredible but it burns my whole mouth to the ground because it's spicy. But I would order it again anytime. The noodles in the broth are so good!
My boyfriend ordered the Khao Soi everytime and he loves it. Especially the tofu in there is remarkable.
Our absolute favorite though were the meat balls. Those were something different. The consistency and the flavor were perfect. Probably one of the best faux meat I've ever had.
Only thing we didn't like that much was the Shaun fried tofu. Still a good snack but compared to the other dishes it wasn't that special.
The best part about this place is that you get all those wonderful dishes for a cheap and fair price.

I’ve had three types of tofu with sweet and sour soup and it just wasn’t it, I didn’t like the consistency. Maybe it’s just not my taste.

keep coming back - Edit
There are quite a few shan food places in Chiang Mai and this one was closest to our accommodation. I'm sure they're all good but can only speak for this one which served the cheapest, tastiest vegan food in Chiang Mai, in my opinion. We ate there twice but I could have kept going back, there were so many unique, delicious dishes to try. Loved the fried shan (chickpea) tofu and tea leaf salad. The tofu soup with yellow noodles used soft purple (peanut) tofu which was a first for me!
Read moreYou write your own order down and take it to the front counter. There's notes on the walls reminding vegans to request "no egg" when ordering from the shan food menu - everything can be made vegan. They also have a Thai food section on the menu that features fake meat and includes a vegan khao soi, I didn't try any though.
