3-1-32 2nd Floor Shinjuku-ku (at Shinjuku Dori), Tokyo, Japan, 1600022

Serves meat, vegan options available. Located on the 2nd floor of Shinjukus skinniest building. Specialty is oyaki, a small bread pocket from Nagano filled with different things - traditionally mushrooms and pickles. A couple of the dishes contain meat but the rest are vegetarian or vegan. A part from oyaki (including a vegan sweet dessert one) there is salad, tea, miso soup and sometimes other menu items like rice balls, curry, breakfast rice balls and other things. The owners speak good English and know a lot about vegan and vegetarian food. They are very friendly and love to talk to visitors. Note: kitchen may stop serving 30-60 minutes prior to closing, check ahead. Open Wed-Sun 8:00am-12:00pm. Closed Mon-Tue, and Fri 11:00am - 2:00 pm.

Overrated - Edit

Nozawana pickles is the most typical ingredient of oyaki, so it's originally vegan. Nothing special about it. They sell deer meat oyaki, which is quite uncommon. So as an oyaki shop, this place is rather vegan unfriendly actually. Plus, I saw the master was smoking in front of the shop. Smoking on the street is prohibited in this area.

Awesome - Edit

The staff here is very nice and make you feel welcomed. Almost everything on the menu was vegan. There was only one item that contained meat. The food was amazing and authentically japanese.

Best Breakfast in Shinjuku! - Edit

I came here for breakfast and had the pickles and shimeji mushroom oyaki set with salad and tea. The owners are so lovely and the location is really nice (on the second floor) with big trees across the street, just off of the main streets of Shinjuku. Would give 5 stars if possible.

Pros: Lovely authentic atmosphere, Yummy, Nice owners

yummy traditional food, amazing hosts - Edit

Very filling vegan veggies. These buns aren't as chewy as mochi or chinese buns. Great to grab and go. Owners were super friendly. Husband had a bun with pork in it. Happy cow won't let me rate this as 5 stars bc they serve meat.

4 1/5 stars! - Edit

Very friendly owners who patiently explained what Oyaki was to tourists like us. I ordered the vegan mushroom oyaki n it was delicious. My non vegan husband had the chicken oyaki and he said it was very good.

The space was quite small with only 3-4 high chairs, and there was also a bench by the window for extra seating area. Very cute casual ambiance with jazz playing in the background.

The only downside was the miso soup that we ordered was instant. We had to add hot water to it and it was bland. But everything else was great.

Must try! - Edit

I wish I could give this place 5 stars! The menu had 4 vegan oyaki options when we were there. We tried the mixed root vegetable, potato & coriander and the yuzu & soy cream for dessert. All delicious! I just wish we found this place before our last day in Tokyo.
The owners are also very friendly and are happy to have a chat :)

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Nice staff, Tasty oyaki

Fab find - Edit

Loved this place. I actually didn't see it on happy cow but was walking past and saw the word 'vegan' in the window and decided to check it out. Delicious oyaki, really lovely owners and such a great experience that 1) my very carnivorous husband had the vegan choices 2) we returned for more before we left Tokyo the next morning. Great for breakfast. Highly recommended!

Pros: Great food, Good English knowledge

Cons: None
