Traditional Portuguese - Edit
A small, cosy, and tastefully decorated restaurant with plenty of seating. Tables can be reserved online in advance. The menu offers traditional Portuguese cuisine with a vegan twist.
Read moreThe starter, main course, and dessert were all excellent. The staff are very friendly, attentive, and service-oriented.

Best in town - Edit
Obviously by far the best vegan option in Faro. We booked for two nights in a row, because we enjoyed the restaurant so much. The starters are all great, the mains are mostly vegan takes on Portuguese dishes. Meat is substituted with seitan and fish with tofu wrapped in nori.

Tasty and friendly! - Edit
We ordered 2 starters (the chickpeas and the filled empanadas) and a main dish, the Francesinha. The vegan egg is an amazing imitation!

Opening hours - Edit
So many great reviews and we were really looking forward to have dinner there. Unfortunately they were already closed. The opening hours here on happy cow were not matching the restaurant's so we recommend you double check by calling them before heading there. Also pay attention to the kitchen's closing time, which could be 1hr earlier... see you next year Outro Lado.

Buono e originale. Bravissimi!!! - Edit
Piatti tradizionali rivisitati in chiave vegan, molto originali e buoni.

Insane vegan food!!😍 - Edit
Me and my partner loved the food here!! For our starters we both had ‘Pastel de Alheira’ and it was absolutely incredible!! My partner chose the option to add an extra pastry thinking it only came with one originally but the original portion is two and they’re quite big so if you want to definitely have plenty of room for your main (because the portions for the mains were generous too) I wouldn’t say to order the extra one. The main courses were also so, so good. I had the ‘Francesinha’ and my boyfriend had ‘Bife de Seitan à Portuguesa’.

This place deserves all its great reviews, and you should absolutely eat here if you’re in Faro. Really excellent. I recommend the traditional Portuguese dishes like francesinha and bitoque (seitan steak).

Excellent vegan Portuguese food - Edit
I love that there is a great vegan restaurant right in Faro!
Read moreThe vibe of the restaurant is really nice! They take reservations and can be really full so getting a reservation is highly recommended. This was my first time here so I didn't have a reservation, but luckily came when they had 1 table open! Next time I'll make a reservation and not leave it up to chance.
I ordered a pineapple kombucha to drink, olives as a starter, and the tofu cornbread as my main dish. For dessert I got a slice of cake.
The pineapple kombucha was presented really beautifully in a tall glass with a large paper straw and some sliced fruit inside. It was sweet and delicious as pineapple always is. I really enjoyed that drink a lot and would get it again.
Next I had the olives and they weren't anything special, but exactly what I was looking for. Something to munch on and enjoy while waiting for my meal. They didn't fill me up too much either and tasted great!
The tofu cornbread was really tasty! The tofu is wrapped in seaweed and cooked to make it have almost a fish-like skin. The seaweed flavor gives the tofu a distinct ocean flavor. The cornbread crumbs are lightly placed on top so don't expect a fully deep fried tofu chunk. The crumbs add a nice texture and flavor to the tofu as well. It's served on top of a bed of cabbage and kale that also is nicely cooked. There are also some roasted potatoes with some salt and olive oil on the plate as well as a couple more olives. The tofu is the star of the show and is a great dish if you want to try a take on a typical Portuguese fish dish. I would recommend getting this meal. I can't wait to come back and try their vegan steak and egg too!
Dessert was a hard choice between the Banoffee and a slice of cake. I asked which one the people working there recommended and they recommended the cake so I got a slice of that. The cake slice was huge! It was creamy with layers of biscoff crust and topped with chocolate syrup and gold flakes. I thought it was going to be too much but as soon as I started eating it I couldn't stop. It was delicious and sweet. It is definitely sugary, but not sickly sweet. I definitely couldn't eat more than one of these. Great recommendation for a dessert.
Overall this is a great place to stop in Portugal and get some yummy Portuguese food without compromising any animal lives!
Pros: Lots of options on the menu, Delicious flavored food
Cons: Out of the "fish from the garden" starter

I was very happy with my visit: the staff made sure dining here was a very pleasant experience.
Read moreI had the "fish" stew: a typical Portugese stew veganised with tofu. I loved it. If I ever come back to Faro, I'll make sure to check some other dishes.

Wonderful food, great service - Edit
The food was excellent, really tasty and beautifully presented. Dishes were substantial! Nice greeting and friendly service, we felt very welcome. Decor was lovely. Quite busy but not full on a Wednesday evening in April so probably book in summer or perhaps at weekend? The bill was very reasonable.

We had a wonderful experience at Outro Lado in Faro! The food is regional, creative, and absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and full of flavor — you can really tell that a lot of love goes into each dish.

One thing to keep in mind: since everything is freshly prepared, it can take a bit of time — but it’s definitely worth the wait. I’d also recommend making a reservation in advance.
Overall, we truly enjoyed our visit and would happily come back!

Exceptional - Edit
Incredible vegan interpretations of a host of Portuguese dishes. The "fish" dishes and Francesinha are particularly recommended and their fried "eggs" have to be tasted to be believed. As for dessert, the Bolo de Bolacha is the very best vegan dessert I have ever had. Service is warm and welcoming from staff who clearly genuinely enjoy welcoming you to their exceptional restaurant. An essential part of any visit to Faro. We ate here four nights running to try as many dishes as possible. Sending loads of love to everyone at Outro Lado for making us so welcome and making our holiday so special.

New lunchtime buffet - Edit
Amazing lunchtime buffet now available 12.30-3pm. €13.90 pp.
Read moreOn my visit they had mini quiches, a Portuguese dish based on a fish and potato dish they created a vegan version of, bolognese, soup and salad range with hummus and tomatoe with pesto drizzle. Everything was so nice, not a crumb left on the plate. Owner (I think) served us. He was really helpful and a great host. We took dessert home for later.
Pros: Fully vegan , All homemade , Beautiful restaurant to sit in and great host

Delicious and worth the wait! - Edit
I had been trying to go to this place for a few years now but every time I had been to Faro it never quite happened but... in January I got to go and it didn’t disappoint! The food is a mix of traditional Portuguese comfort food and other more known world foods like Banoffi Pie Pudding! We had the Francesinha and it was so amazingly good! It came with chips/ fries and the sauce was generous and plentiful! The selection of dishes were good but all three of us ended up having the same! Also the selection of wines and soft drinks were really good. I will have to go back to try the rest but so far this is one of the best vegan places in Faro! The staff were super friendly and attentive. Nice relaxed atmosphere and very welcoming. Arrive hungry because the portions are healthy!!! Loved this place ❤️
