Charming Atmosphere, Okay Food - Edit
We wanted to love this place because the setting was so fun, but the food just didn't do it for us. There was an uninspired vegan cheese plate. The cheeses were not particularly flavorful, and it was served with veggies and a pickle plus some non-vegan honey roasted pumpkin seeds. I think it could have benefited from bread, crackers, or fruit to pair with the vegan cheese. The vegan reuben was good, but had surprisingly spicy sauerkraut on it, so wouldn't be a good fit for everyone. We wished the heart of palm "crab" cake could have been vegan. I'm not sure if we caught it on an off day or if it needs a 2022 menu revamp.

Unique place - good food - Edit
Fun place in the stockade area of Kingston pleased to find in walking distance to our Airbnb. According to menu - vegetarian, whole food.
Read moreSome items can be made vegan. I had the tempeh Reuben and it was very good and a good portion for lunch - with some side greens and pickled veggies. They make their own almond milk for coffee drinks, matcha lattes etc.
Store has interesting antiques too.
Pros: Vegan options

Decent VGF options - Edit
My first time here so not sure if the service is always really slow and borderline bad / inattentive but it was decent enough I'd go back to give it a try. We waited almost an hour for a sandwich and a salad.
Read moreTables are not cleaned between guests unless you do it yourself. Portions were reasonable for the price but nothing was amazing for flavour.
Solid VGF options though.
Pros: Vegan and gluten free options well marked , Good portions
Cons: Slow service , Not very clean , A bit bland

Outdated great with new plant based menu - Edit
Distinctive in the amazing quality of its salads, which use local ingredients, including fresh flowers in the summer. A note on the menu states that most items can be made vegan. (Update, Fall 2019: Outdated: An Antique Cafe now has a Plant Based menu for customers who wish to eat vegan. The vegan menu features some tasty and healthy new options in my opinion, including a Kale Caesar salad and the Greens Only salad, the second of which was first offered in the summer, I think. Soups (always vegan at Outdated) are back for the fall. The specials board usually features some vegan items. Vegan baked goods and deserts (including items such as vegan scones and feminist balls) are on display in a case of their own!) Features high-quality local vegan cheeses made from nuts. A great place for coffee lovers and others who enjoy an offbeat café-type atmosphere, where sound levels permit conversation. Wifi is available and in use by many patrons.

Really good breakfast - Edit
I wasn't sure about coming here after reading earlier reviews, but decided to give it a try for breakfast and I'm so glad I did! It's an interesting little place with all the antiques, fun to look around. I couldn't spot a single piece of taxidermy, so they must've gotten rid of that. I got a very nice almond milk latte (no oat milk, sadly), but the truly amazing part was the food. I got the peanut butter tofu scramble (I know, right, but it's SO good!!) It came with sage biscuits (vegan, I asked) and a salad topped with an edible flower. Just wonderful! Close to I-87, worth a stop if you're passing by.

THE BEST- I have to visit weekly 😍 - Edit
Their Vegan Breakfast sandwich is my favorite thing on the menu even as a vegetarian. Their scones are to die for as are all their baked goods but the Jalapeño Jack Scone is top notch. My boyfriend usually gets the Wicked One. We usually can't last more than a week or two without visiting!

Cons: Gets super busy on the weekends so be aware!, I wish they served dinner as well!

Great place to eat and hang out / meet up with friends - Edit
Outdated Cafe is a large friendly vegetarian cafe/eatery with a wide menu of breakfast and lunch items and meals. I usually take a laptop or book with me (as well as a large appetite) and get both a bowl and a salad. The salads can be huge, which is fine, as I can then eat slowly and get through a few good chapters of whatever book I'm reading. The place is quite popular and attracts quite the crowd, especially on weekends. The cafe is also an antique store of sorts - nearly everything is for sale, so it's fun checking out the different things as they cycle through the store. My only quibble at Outdated is the same as a review below from a few years ago - there are a couple fairly large taxidermy items on the walls, fewer than there used to be, but still, not my preference in a vegetarian restaurant. All things considered, however Outdated is one of my go-to's on a Saturday or Sunday morning, and I quite like the place.

Good vegan options in a quirky, unique space - Edit
This breakfast/brunch/lunch place is loaded with interesting antiques and quirky bric-a-brac. Menu is mostly ovo/lacto veg but there are delicious vegan options and some things can be made vegan. They have vegan mayo and vegan cheese available. Vegan breakfast sandwich and VBLT are great as is the quinoa and veggie salad. They carry Sweet Maresa (vegan bakery in New Paltz) cookies and they make their own "Feminist Balls" desserts which are delicious. Very chill vibe, order at counter and they bring your food out to you. Nice place to chill and read or meet up with a larger group (they have some big tables). They have a water jug so you can serve yourself water. Some people here have complained about the antique taxidermied animals. There were 2 when I went so it seems as though they are getting rid of these.

Best vegetarian restaurant in Kingston - Edit
Antique store that has breakfast and lunch. No table service, order at counter. Fewer taxidermied animals every time I visit, only 5 now, definitely not vegan! The only vegetarian restaurant in Kingston has great coffee, good breakfast, diverse lunch specials and plenty of sandwiches. Some vegan options. Friendly staff.

A Taxidermy Wonderland - Edit
Name any animal and you can find one stuffed and hanging on the wall at Outdated. We saw about 15 pieces of taxidermy and left.
Read moreThe menu is mostly eggs products. The staff is miserable and rude. My boyfriend said hello to the girl taking orders and she gave him a dirty look and continued that she was doing. The place is dirty.
Happy Cow won't let me give it less than two stars, but this place shouldn't even be listed. What vegan/vegetarian wants to look at identifiable dead animal parts while they eat?
