Great Atmosphere, Delicious Desserts - Edit

We were really satisfied with our visit to Orion. We shared the raw sushi, breakfast burrito and raw banana and chocolate cheesecake. One of the best vegan desserts we'd tasted and the breakfast burrito really was tasty.

Misleading - Edit

At first glance Orion seems like an amazing cafe. The setting is beautiful and I was happy and hopeful sitting under the charming pagoda awaiting my smoothie.
My experience was tainted unfortunately. The staff seemed indifferent and unwelcoming, and met my requests lefting me feeling demanding and difficult.
What ruined the experience entirely was the dishonesty of the operation. I was under the impression (from reading information on the website and looking at the menu) that Orion has its own garden and serves at least primarily organic produce. This turned out to be NOT true. The staff reported without hesitation that no fruits or vegetables were organic and everything was bought at the local market.
It is important for me to post this review. When you eat at a healing retreat and expect the food to be clean and safe, it is a sad feeling to learn what is actually being served.
Orion Café needs improvement in the quality of the vegetables - or AT LEAST honesty in their menu.

Pros: Location, Eat with a view

Cons: Dishonest, Not organic, Unwelcoming staff

Disappointed - Edit

I was looking forward going to Orion Cafe for their raw and organic produce. I was very disappointed and felt mislead! In their menu and online Orion states that their produce is organic whenever possible. I asked the staff twice and both times they said that "there are no organic food here, we buy from market", refering to the market in Thong Sala, which does not sell organic. There are different small stalls, bigger supermarkets and organic shops where you can purchase both organic and "pesticides-free" vegetables and fruits, but unfortunately Orion does not serve these.
Furthermore the staff wasn't very welcoming or friendly.
The location of Orion cafe is beautiful though, and the menu is extensive with both raw and cooked dishes - but being mislead about the quality of the produce ruined my experience.

Pros: Beautiful location

Cons: Not organic, Poor service

Well... - Edit

...the different dishes you can choose from the menu is huge and the dishes and drinks itself taste also very good! But unfortunately the staff isn't friendly at all, rather snippy and stroppy. Almost no smile. We also had to wait very long for our order. Would have definitely given more stars exclusive for the food and drinks.

lots of vegan options - Edit

The place has a great schedule of yoga classes, meditation and detox retreats, in front of the beach. The restaurant is perfect, exceptional food and ambience, with hamacs cushions in front of the beautiful landscape of the beach. The prices are expensive for Thailand, around 250 baths. Clients are basically all Yogis foreigners. You can also rent a Stand up paddle. Good place to meet conscious people if you join the courses.

Pros: Lots of Vegan Options

Cons: Expensive for Thailand

Out of this World!!! - Edit

This restaurant serves the best vegan food I have ever tasted in my life! The quality, the quantity, the freshness, the spices, the sauces, the diversity all SPOT on!
My first time I enjoyed a luscious vegan Caesar salad. It was crunchy, served with an amazingly creamy dressing and included some seed crackers and croutons. So tasty and a good size.
Then I chose the raw vegan blueberry cheesecake. Oh. My. Gosh. I am telling you, it was bursting with flavor. I couldn't wait to go back.
Well today, I was not disappointed. I ordered the Vegan Raw Sushi. It was just the perfect balance of creamy and crunchy, wrapped in nori and served with a delectable veggie noodle salad and 2 different dressings.
Along with that I ordered the Raw Coconut Soup. It looked like a green smoothie, actually, but the taste was out of this world. Cool, refreshing and healthy. Too much food, I could not have dessert.
Going back tomorrow.

Pros: SETTING, AMAZING VEGAN FOOD, HOURS ARE GENEROUS

Cons: NONE

I LOVE Orion Cafe!!! - Edit

the food here is really tasty and healthy. I love the big variety of the menu.. and juice! you can feel the ingredients are very fresh and nutritious. It's difficult to find a good vegan place on island and here is the one. The cafe view is spectacular, beach front and nice breeze. The atmosphere is really pleasant to come eat and hang out..

Wonderful place with sea-view - Edit

The Orion Healing Center is a nice place to be, everytime my boyfriend and I went there, we immediately felt the positive energy around us!
We went there several times to fill up our water bottles (You can fill up your "trash hero" waterbottles for free at many places on the island - We really love the Trash Hero - Project)
and also for breakfast and one time for dinner.
Breakfast was very good, I enjoyed a green smoothie bowl with granola. My boyfriend had the chia pudding but he didn't like the taste so much.
Our Dinner was raw vegan pad thai and raw pesto noodles: We both didn't like it SO much. Maybe it's because they don't use so much spices for example like salt or something (which is good & healthy but sometimes a bit low in taste)
All in all, I would recommend to visit Orion Cafe if you stay in Koh Phangan, just to feel the vibes - you can have an abundance of smoothies, juices and other stuff if you don't want to eat much.

Pros: Friendly Staff, Great place, Smoothie bowls

Cons: food was ok- but maybe it's just a matter of taste

crowded - Edit

The place is beautiful in front of the sea in the nature . The problem is that is full of mosquitoes and often overcrowded . You have to queue to order your food and it's not so relaxing because you have to wait and if you want more you have to go again . Often the service is slow and they make mistakes about your orders . The food is good . The pesto spaghetti , the hummus and the tempeh burger were delicious. Also raw cakes .

slow service - Edit

I ordered the falafel sandwich, which literally consisted of two pieces of falafel, hummus, and one piece of lettuce for 220 baht. It took more than half an hour to make. When I asked about the side salad it was supposed to come with I was told that it was already on the sandwich? They weren't even willing to give me a part of the money back.

Great setting - Edit

The restaurant of the yoga and detox retreat center, so it has a very chill and peaceful vibe as expected. As the center attracts westerners the world over for expensive retreats, and as the setting is A1 (practically on the beach in a quiet bay), the restaurant prices are accordingly high. For example, many main dishes like burritos were pushing 250 baht. However, we pieced together a couple of smaller and cheaper items and some rice and made a meal out of it. The hummus was excellent (we requested it without the oil they normally drizzle on top), as was the morning glory (aka swamp cabbage in the US) and mushroom dish. Heaps of vegan options. Great food, beautiful setting, definitely recommend.

Pros: Great food (heaps of vegan options), Beautiful setting, Chill vibe

Cons: Price, Not entirely vegan

our food was 30 minutes late - Edit

The location is great, but the staff ruined the experience. They weren't friendly and didn't seem to know anything about their menu. Our food was 30 minutes late without apology. When we finally received our food it was very mediocre. The price isn't justified. Do yourself a favor and visit one of the other vegan restaurants on this area instead where the people are kind and the food is amazing.

Delicious breakfasts but confusing menu - Edit

Orion Cafe is located just south of Srithanu in a little bay. As you travel south out of Srithanu, at the point the road curves to the left, turn into the small road on the right and follow it round the corner. It is attached to a yoga school and most of the clientele appear to come from there. The atmosphere is very relaxed and peaceful. There is ample seating in a covered outdoor area which overlooks the bay.

Orion Cafe is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I visited several times during my time on Kho Phangan for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, I ordered the Chia Bomb, Fresh Fruit Salad and coffee. The food was outstanding but the coffee was very weak. For lunch, I ordered a burger which was absolutely delicious. I tried various smoothies which were all excellent.

The menu is very confusing with too many options spread over too many pages in the smallest font imaginable. They should try to replicate Karma Kafe’s clear, concise and attractive menu style.

Prices are comparable to other vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Srithanu which can be summarised as very cheap by UK standards but expensive by Thai standards.

I thoroughly recommend Orion Cafe for breakfast and it is worth considering for lunch and dinner if you have tried the other vegetarian restaurants in Srithanu.

Pros: Healthy, Good Portion Size, Delicious

Cons: Confusing Menu, Staff Don't Speak Great English

Good, could be better - Edit

Been here a couple of times when staying in Koh Phangan. The first time i was here i loved the atmosphere, very chill and relaxed, beautiful location. The mushroom burger was divine , starting with the fluffy wholewheat bun and finishing with a great fresh salad to accompany it. The papaya salad was so so , nothing special so as the falafel burger. Massaman curry was really good, thick, creamy with a lot of vegetables and a great depth of flavours.
The second time i came around was not as good. I ordered mango salad which was great except for the amount of olive oil in it... And the Zen bowl , was the worst of the worst, there was so much oil , soba noodles and broccoli were swimming in an huge puddle of oil , i don't think i have ever consumed so much oil in one dish ever in my life...Very disappointed...
Both times i was here thai staff was completely ruining the chill atmosphere, shouting the orders and shouting at each other... it was ridiculous...Having in mind the peaceful surroundings and people. All in all, this place has a great perspective, but there is room for improvement.

Pros: Great location, Good menu

Cons: OILY !!!!!!!, Shouting staff, Expensive

Loved the food! Yes, it's expensive but for what you get it's totally worth it. The portions are really big. The Massaman curry was the best I've ever had! We also had the hummus with freshly baked flatbread. A bit too oily for my taste though. The spicy mushroom stir fry was great, too. Just go and eat till you can't walk anymore (come by scooter!) :)

Pros: a m a z i n g food , nice atmosphere at the beach

Cons: pricey
