Hidden oasis

As other reviewers have mentioned, you need a good GPS signal and some faith to find this restaurant, but it's worth it. The seating is limited but there's a lovely calm atmosphere. The staff have enough English for basic communication and the set meals are both tasty and fresh. Recommended.

Pros: calm, good food, English spoken.

Delicious food (if you can find it!)

Due partly to bad map reading it took me 45mins to find this place from the station. It's really tucked behind the Tower Annex building, NOT the tower itself.
But I'm so glad I didn't give up. The place is cozy and has an authentic Japanese feel.
The food was great! I had the vegan burger and my wife had the veg set. Both were excellent but our favorite had to be the chocolate cashew smoothie ❤️
We also had some delicious desserts.
I would highly recommend this place and will hopefully be back soon!

Pros: smoothies , ambience , desserts

Cons: location

Great food, hidden away

Warm and inviting, this place is tucked away down some side streets and then some. Quite pokey, but warm and homely. An abundance of options in a very unique style of menu (you'll see what I mean). We had a lentil pasta, a burger, and grain coffee. Wow, absolutely delicious! Highly recommend if you're in Kyoto.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cosy, hidden vegan restaurant

Very small but cosy vegan restaurant close to Kyoto station, nevertheless could be a little tricky to find.
Cute menu with english translations :)
I got this traditional japanese lunch set that included soup, rice with beans, 3 soy nuggets, very small bowl of pasta with basil, also small potato and beetroots mix , some salad and pickled vegs as a side. Unfortunately the soup was so tasteless that I couldn't drink it.
We also ordered the raw vegan cheese salad but was sparing with cheese in it, only carrots with cumin made it interesting.

Pros: close to Kyoto station, cosy and cute, friendly staff

Cons: very small portions, closed between lunch and dinner

Fusion bento with a hippy vibe

Some construction work made this place a little harder to find than it normally would be, but it was worth the detour for lunch.

The general decor was traditional Japanese but there was a definite top-coat of your standard international vegan hippieness. The menus were hand-written with collage pictures, which was cute. My menu had some English dish titles, but was by no means fully English. A bit of on-the-fly translation and guesswork steered us well though.

The main attractions are the set lunches. They're bento-style groups of small dishes with a changing daily special. My partner went for that and I had the pancake set. We also ordered a small raw vegan cheese salad as we'd heard good things.

The cheese was definitely one of the highpoints, really creamy with a lovely flavour. The sets were slightly more hit and miss, though definitely more hit. There was a lovely small dish of something that looked like it would be hummus but actually had a scrambled egg flavour. A pasta salad in the daily set was a refreshing surprise and the 'main' of some kind of mock meat nuggets made of coconut were lovely. The pancake set also came with the hummus/scrambled egg dish plus 2 options for pancake dressing - balsamic vinegar/olive oil or maple syrup. The only real disappointment was the soup that came with both, a fairly bland vegetable broth.

The raw cake set looked lovely, but we didn't fancy eating more! Overall, a nice lunch spot with an interesting blend of East and West.

Pros: The cheese! Also, pancakes

Cons: None

cosy and tasty

Particularly good cake selection! A great place to go for a lunch set, if you're close to Kyoto station. They also do a cheese, which is so delicious! The portion of the cheese plate and the bruschetta is a little small, but the flavour is so intense. The lunch sets are good value, and the cake is well worth trying!

Pros: close to Kyoto station, great cakes!, good value lunch set

Cons: could be a little tricky to find , small portions for some dishes

Homely Restaurant with great food!

The place is really cute and cozy! It really feels like you're intruding into somebody's living room when you first walk in but the staff are really welcoming and friendly.
The food was really delicious with so much thought and effort put into all the little dishes to makes them flavorful.
There's also lots of snacks and treats that you can buy and take with you for your adventure days in Kyoto.

Pros: Delicious food, Cute environment , All vegan

Cozy place that feels like a home

This hidden, magical restaurant was such a discovery! It's designed like a private home and will give you a sense of the Japanese hospitality, calm and attention to details. We loved everything we ordered.
The portions aren't big, so if you're very hungry, better add to the daily set an extra burger or similar. They also have a large variety of vegan desserts. Highly recommended!

Pros: Very close to Kyoto station, homely and beautifully designed, very friendly staff

Cons: closed between lunch and dinner

It is so easy to miss this

I totally agree with the reviews saying this place was hard to find. GoogleMaps lead me right to the area but not to the shop itself. As a result I was in front of some houses and for a second I thought the shop was in one of them. Regardless, if the same thing happens to you, turn into a little alley and when you see a yellow building with a pink sign on the street you've got it. The food was great and I was pretty full and satisfied. I got this traditional japanese lunch set that included soup, rice with beans, 3 soy nuggets, some salad and other 2 veggie side dishes. I saw on the menu they have a veggie burger, just incase anyone is looking for their veggie burger fix. They also have an english menu. After getting your table you have to order at the counter, then you just sit down and wait for your order. If anyone is allergic to soy I would inquire within, as with vegan options foods generally lean towards soy products.

Pros: lots of options

Cons: very dim , hard to find

Loved this place!

Initially had some difficulty finding this place because it is hidden in an alley in what seems like someone's house, but once we were there it was amazing. It was an awesome first meal in Kyoto, having just taken the Shinkansen from Tokyo. Do not give up if you can't find this place immediately, as it's worth a little trouble!

Cons: Difficult to find

Flavourful authentic food

This gem is hard to find, google maps leads you to another cafe but if you continue on the small street that the other place is on you will find it on your left.
They serve varied and flavourful food in a cozy and intimate setting. Prices are very reasonable.

Pros: Atmosphere , Healthy , Delicious

Cons: Hard to locate

A little gem tucked away close to the station

If you want to eat in a cozy, authentic and unique place, this might be it. The location is great, but I have to disagree with earlier reviews and say that it's hard to find. It's quite hidden around a corner, and there are no huge signs. Look at the map very closely, and you'll find it, though.

Pros: Cozy, Great food

Cons: Rather small, Hard to find

Beautiful and authentic experience

It's not often you find a vegan resturant that doesn't have a westernized menu or isn't targeted at tourists in anyway, so this place was definitely a special find. It had a great authentic Japanese menu which changed everyday, the pricing is very reasonable, portions are well sized and the food is incredible!! The setting is very cozy and laid back and has the option of sitting on the floor or on a table. Wish there were more vegan places like this in Japan!

Awesome Cozy Lunch & Dinner!

It's a cute little restaurant converted from a house, with Japanese style floor tables and sliding doors. Highly recommend the curry and the veggie sets!

Rare gem near kyoto station

Loved the food here. Its a small business but it served great food with pride. Price wise very reasonable. The veggie set i had only cost me 980 yen. Take note that at dinner time some of the main course may not be available and only cakes and drinks are offered. Went there on dinner another time but the main course only left curry set rice. So do go there for lunch if you want to try out their veggie set. Not hard to find, the location pointed out in this app and with the help of google map, this place is easy to find. Jus keep a look out as it is nestle in a residential neighbourhood area.

Decent food, great deserts and atmosphere!

Great location being so close to Kyoto station. Not difficult to find - I used the picture of the map and the outside of the cafe as a guide and found it perfectly. The food was decent - I had the vegetable soup, salad, pickled carrots, curried lentils and vegan cheese served with bread. The waitress spoke good English and was able to advise me what was vegan. Lunch was okay but the selection of deserts was definitely worth it. I like the low seating and traditional atmosphere.

They are mainly open for lunch and do tea and cake from 5-7pm daily. I asked about dinner and was told they only do this Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but this changes every few weeks. I would go back to try the vegan pizza I saw on the menu!

Decent restaurant

First off, I concur with other reviewers that it is not easy to find the place. So some instructions.
If you arrive at Kyoto station, take note to exit ie Karasuma side. Cross the road opposite the bus stand where the new Hankyu restaurant is opposite the railway station and walk westward(left). You will come to a Lawson shop adjacent to a crossing with horizontal and diagonal zebra crossing. Take a right and then left. You are in Kitsuya bashi Dori. On the right side, after the first block take a right. Then a left. Note this left is like a 1 person walking path. You can find the restaurant. If coming from the north, it is the next east-westroad after Schijo Dori.

It is a small restaurant seats around 11 persons. Very near Kyoto station if you want to find food near there. Visited for lunch and had the washoku. They had another pane set and then a couple of separate items. Food was good.
Bottom line will recommend if you are in that area. Price was also reasonable at 980 yen for the lunch set

Pros: Near railway station, Relatively cheap

Cons: A bit hard to find

Classic vegan macrobiotic

Very close to Kyoto station, I ate here twice. The lunch and dinner sets are reasonably priced at under 1000 yen and the cafe is very cute and serene. Like many Japanese vegan places it is tucked away and integrated into neighbourhoods and as such can be tricky to locate. Don't give up! The food is lovingly composed, seasonal and filling.

Amazing

This restaurant is literally located on the first floor of some random woman's house... and it is awesome! I can only name about half of the foods I ate this evening, but everything was delicious. The flavor profile definitely skews sour/bitter and fermented (common in macrobiotic foods), so be sure you're up for an adventure!

Pros: Daily specials, Homemade everything, Totally unique

Cons: Tricky to find
