Vegan restaurant in Kyoto! - Edit
I found this place with the help of google maps. Look for a little pink sign. I walked in and needed to order food for takeout. The lady immediately welcomed me and told me there was 2 options that day, burger (no side!) and a bento box set. I was so excited to find this place close to my hotel. I also picked up 2 packets of vegan ramen. Total was 2411 yen! The burger was delicious. It was like breaded fish burg (but no fish lol). And it had a yummy sauce and raisins! Bento box was good too.

I went there en route to Nara so only picking up take away and also some hard to find vegan ramen noodles.

The ongiri were AMAZING
Later on in the evening the ramen were also fab
Whilst waiting for our ongiri I witnessed many dishes coming out and looked longingly on. When back in Kyoto I will make this place a priority
Pros: Lovely ongiri , Healing atmosphere
Cons: Wish it stayed open a little longer in the evening

Homely and delicious - Edit
Vegan fish burger was really good, and the accompanying salad and soup were very tasty and umami.
Read moreThe brown pasta with cream sauce (can have tomato) is nice and herby, whilst root vegetables add a nice bite.
Cacao cashew smoothie was perfectly rich and nutty - I'd love to try making vegan cheesecake with this style!
Really nice decor and service.
You can pick up many essential vegan items here - nuts, applesauce, instant ramen (miso soy flavor ... Amazing, and only 200 yen. Should have got a packet for every day's breakfast!).

Adore this place! - Edit
Eating here felt like being a guest in someone's home. Loved the atmosphere. The food was all delicious and the sweets were even better (not too sweet). Everyone was very nice. Highly recommend this if you're near Kyoto Station/Kyoto Tower!

Fantastic Little place - Edit
1st - if you can't find it, keep going back in the alleys. It is in the back of an alley off of an alley. And then when you open the door and it looks like a closet, take your shoes off and head into the dining on the left. It is well worth it.

Great food! - Edit
Tucked in a small alley behind Kyoto tower, my four children , my husband and I felt like real foodies going on a foodie adventure! The food was delicious. The chef and waitress knew enough English to get us by, there was also a English menu which made it easy for us to choose our options. We liked the vegan burger the most, the smoothies were great and I had my first decent cup of tea there since arriving in Japan. The desserts were house made and very good also. The place had a great vibe, loved it, was definitely a highlight of Kyoto for my family!

Organic, fresh ingredients, yummy burger! - Edit
Came here for lunch two days in a row! Tried the burger set meal the first day (excellent - they advertise it as tasting like a fish burger and it really does.) and the raw spring roll set meal on the second day. I also tried two dessert items on the raw sweets menu... The first day I tried the strawberry tart and the second day I tried the blueberry tart. Both were very nice. All of the food was great and I especially couldn't help noticing how fresh the salads were - on both days, they were very generous in terms of portion as well as taste. I've eaten a lot of not-so-fresh, not-so-fabulous salads at other places, I guess lol!
Read moreThe shop is a little tricky to find at first. But it's close to Kyoto Station. As others have pointed out it's in a little alley in a residential area. You'll see a Japanese restaurant, but that isn't Organic House Salute. You have to pass the entrance of the Japanese restaurant into another alleyway and you'll see a fenced-off parking area. The fence blocks your view of Organic House Salute - they do have a sign board but it's not clearly visible until you get up close to it. Anyway you'll see some potted plants near the fenced-off parking lot, just keep walking down the alley (you might feel a bit weird as it looks like ordinary houses... but the shop is there I promise!)
They have some baked goods as well as some raw sweets that you can take away (I bought some as souvenirs for my friends) and the shopkeepers are very helpful with answering questions despite being busy!
I definitely want to try the burger again. It was very nice...
The shop building itself is a traditional Japanese-style house, and the interior is also traditional Japanese style. Very quaint and cosy.

Amazing, light, fresh and full of flavour. - Edit
I adored this place! It was quite delicious, we had ordered the vegan burger and vegetable lunch set and they were both great! I would recommend both, full of flavour and quick service. The place is a bit difficult to find, you will be directed down a street and there will be a white light box walk further down and talk the back street and it has a pink sign!

Really difficult to find but worth it! - Edit
We managed to find this place after two attempts. It’s inside a little alleyway in a residential area. There is another Japanese restaurant in the opening of the alleyway with a sign saying they are not Organic House Salute. Thought this meant it had closed down and had been replaced with another restaurant and turned away. Don’t know what took over us but we decided to try again and turns out it’s further down the alleyway! The place itself is very quaint but has its own charm. Price is very inexpensive. We had the lunch set and the vegan burger. The burger was great! Wish we had time to try the raw desserts!

Strange, but decent vegan food - Edit
Strange experience here-not greeted at the door and the space was messy. Food was pretty good but the red wine tasted as if it had been open for a few days. Happy there was a vegan option near our hotel but would not particularly recommend this place.

Staff was really rude to me... - Edit
I really wanted to like this place and had been looking forward to going there but I was truely dissappointed... I was not greeted when I entered, so flustered I asked are you open? At which they said it was cafe time at an unfriendly tone.
Read moreI decided to go in, ordered salad, soup rice and quiche, about everything savoury they had on the cafe menu. The food was okay but nothing special. The quiche was soaked in tomato ketchup which was a waste.
The food was put on the counter with no instructions or even a glance at me and it took some time until another lady brought it to my table. The owners were visible irritated at each other.
When I took off my shoes in front of the toilet because there were toilet slippers inside, one of the owners saw me and said "like for real?" (マジかよ) and laughed at me. I said "there's toilet slippers" at which she looked at me as if I was crazy, and laughed at me again (not the I don't know how to react kind of laughing, I wish it was, but she was mocking me). It's not done to go to the toilet in Japanese homes with your regular indoor slippers because that means you treat the entire house as no more than a toilet. Usually there are no toilet slippers in a restaurant so you can wear your shoes but here there were so I just acted according to Japanese customs. And she was laughing at me. What was that about?! Did I not need to change into the toilet slippers? Should I have taken off my shoes before entering the restaurant space? But there was no sign or other shoes outside? And whatever the case, you don't just laugh at your customers do you?!
When I was about to leave a third lady offered me dessert and after she showed me all kinds of pie they had I felt rathet obliged to order one so I did. She asked if I wanted something to drink with that and when I said I was fine, her face changed from a smile to obvious irritation. The pie was tiny and not that tasty.
All in all, the atmosphere was bad, I was not treated the way you should treat your customers and the food was mediocre so I can't recommend this place and I won't be going back. I hope others have a better experience here because of course I'd like vegan restaurants to stay in business but I really can't support them personally after this experience.
Pros: All vegan, Close to JR station
Cons: Rude, Mediocre food, Bad customer service

Perfect! - Edit
Cute neighbourhood, cozy inside with great relaxed atmosphere. The staff is so lovely and helpfull =) I had the gluten free ricepasta and they also made it soy free for me. The sauce consisted of coconut and cashewnuts and the dish was so full of flavour! The salad also colourfull and rich. Good prices for what you get. Because I was so full, I took out some raw chocolate and chocolate brownie cookies. Can’t wait to try them. Thank you for a great foodie experience ^.^

Delicious food in relaxing cafe - Edit
Not far from Kyoto station, down a back Street in an old-style Japanese house, there are a number of set menus available as well as a la carte. We had a curry plate and a soy meat hamburger plate, and both were great. There's a corner of the cafe which sells health-food stuff too. Highly recommended.

I am always apprehensive of cafes based around health foods as I am a junk-food vegan but after seeing all the great reviews I tried this place and I can say I was blown away !! I was extremely impressed with all of it and have already been back twice for the same meal ahah!

Hidden Gem - Edit
This place is within walking distance from Kyoto Station. It is hidden away in bylanes and you will definitely need Google maps the first time you go there. The place is a bit small. I went there with a backpack and it was a little difficult to maneuver. The staff was very friendly. They have an English menu. I had the Vegan burger set and Raw Cashew Cocoa milk shake - both of which were delicious.

Close to Kyoto station, lucky we had google maps to find it. Very kind people and good vegan food! As I read the reviews below it said small portions. But I had a set menu, vegan hamburger. You get a salad, soup, pickled veggies, rice and a hamburger. I tried as an dessert a nice cake this was really enough and really good! Had also the spring roll, glad I could share this one. Otherwise I wasn’t able to finish it all! The atmosphere was like eating at someone’s house, loved it.

went there today for the first time. super tasty burger, very nice salad with raw cheese, kid friendly, small space but very comfy. price is decent - for one burger set, one regular salad, one smoothie, and two deserts, it was less than 2500 yen (roughly $22). would love to go back some day.
