The cakes were nice, but they serve lactose-free cow‘s milk for coffee! And the owner coughed into here hands all the time, so it didn‘t feel very hygienic.

Amazing coffee and sweets - Edit
The cafe is small and very cosy. Friendly staff, and an amazing variety of cakes and sweets; some are sugar free, and some without flour. Coffee was also really good. Definitely recommend coming here!

Read moreWhen I passed by Omas Backstube I got captured by the inviting scent of fresh pastries which could be smelled from the street!
It was honestly pretty hard to even choose a cake with that many vegan options. I had a piece of Matcha cream cake and it was sooo good! Totally understandable rather high prices for this quality.
Their cakes are gluten-free and they use alternative sweeteners instead of sugar. I’m not sure if only their cakes or all of the café is vegan, because in the menu next to the plant milks for coffee I also saw an option for “lactose free milk”.
On the menu they also have some savoury sandwiches, but allegedly they only get the bread and other ingredients for that once a week, so they couldn’t prepare any savoury dishes 😅
5 stars nevertheless for the amazing cakes and good service! They have just a few indoor seats, but at least a small outdoor seating area as well.

I was extremely excited to see what was on offer in here and when I poked my head in I was almost giddy with the slight of so many vegan sweet treats!
Read moreAfter much deliberation, I plumped for the apple strudel, the carrot torte and the walnut cake. While the pastry on the strudel was superb, the filling left a little to be desired and the carrot torte was a fabulous texture but the flavour was slightly overpowered by the lemon icing. The best of the bunch was certainly the walnut cake which had an excellent cake to cream ratio. All in all, tasty, but not as good as I had hoped.

We had the Mozarttorte, the sugar-free chocolate cake, a Punschkrapferl, a Kipferl, and an Apfelstrudel (and took two Hörnchen to go).

Omas Backstube has a reeaally good selection of vegan cakes and pastrys, we had the walnut cake which was super delicious. I'm only giving it four stars because it's quite expensive (5€ for a rather small piece of cake).

We had the strawberry chocolate cake and strawberry cheesecake (no sugar). The latter tasted fresh and light, so very recommended. The chocolate dough of the other one was a bit dry for our taste, so not the best we've had in Vienna, but the strawberry part was delicious. Indoor cafe only seats around 3 people.

Meine Freundin (flexi) und ich (vegan) waren letzte Woche für vier Tage in Wien. Wir frühstückten zweimal in Oma's Café im Stein. Denn wenn man/frau sich pflanzlich und genussvoll ernähren will, ist dieses Café ideal.

An Tag 3 frühstückten wir herzhaft: geschmortes Gemüse, Saaten, Hummus, zwei kleine Ecken Käse und einladend duftendes Brot. Natürlich tranken wir Milchkaffee. Alles schmeckte hervorragend.
Trotz des gut besuchten Cafés strahlte der Chef Freundlichkeit und Gelassenheit aus, beantwortete alle Fragen rund ums Café und sein Angebot ohne Hektik und bediente zügig, aber nicht gestresst, so dass sich jede/r wohlfühlen konnte.
Wir empfehlen, das Café selbst zu testen, wenn ihr in Wien seid.

If you are in Vienna and want to eat plant based food with relish, then OMA'S CAFÉ IM STEIN is the right place to be.
My friend (flexi) and I (vegan) spent four days in Vienna last week and had our breakfast twice at OMA'S CAFÉ. The moment we stepped into the café, we felt welcome. The manager/assistant answered all our questions and explained the menu in a very relaxed and friendly way, although we were not the only guests.
On day 1 we decided on one piece of mango-cheese-cake and half a piece of berry-poppy seeds-cake. The ingredients sounded like muesli, but the cakes were extremely delicious. The milk coffee smelled very good and tasted wonderful, too.
On day 3 we had a plate of fried vegetables, hummus, seeds, two small pieces of cheese and invitingly smelling slices of bread. And milk coffee, of course. Everything was very very delicious.
