Not great food, but nice people and view

If you are very hungry and you want to eat some nice vegan food, I wouldn’t recommend Omar. They don’t have many vegan options, though you can easily “veganize” some dishes by taking the cheese out. The food is not very fresh and they over fry the veggies, making them quite greasy. Also, we were quite disappointed by finding out that they use chicken broth to cook the lentil soup, so it isn’t vegan after all.
However, the staff working there are very nice and friendly and they are aware of what vegans can eat, so they will help you out with the menu (something not common at all here). Also, the best thing about this place are the amazing views to the Hagia Sofia from the top floor… somehow it helps you forget about the greasy food.

Pros: Amazing views , Friendly staff

Cons: Not vegan lentil soup , Greasy food , Not many vegan options

Not veg-friendly

Vegans, skip this place. The only vegan option there is hummus appetizer. It is pretty good though. The vegetarian section of the menu has two dishes listed, both with cheese.

Pros: Good and big hummus appetizer

Cons: Not vegan-friendly

Somewhat limited veggie options, but good service makes up for it

We found Omar after a busy day of sightseeing. It's quite similar to the other places in the area, with decent but not excellent food and fairly limited vegan options. In addition to the typical meze and olive oil dishes, they have vegan/veganizable lentil soup and pasta. However, the service was excellent: the staff knew what was vegan and what wasn't, they were friendly, and they were attentive. It's a bit expensive, but you're also paying for the direct view of Hagia Sophia.

I wouldn't make a specific effort to go here, but it's great if you're in the area and hungry for more than roasted chestnuts or corn on the cob.

Pros: Great location, Great service, Great view

Cons: Similar food to other restaurants in the area

Very disappointing

We visited Omar Cafe due to the reviews on Happy Cow... and we were very disappointed, because we found it to be a typical tourist rip off with low quality and overpriced food!

We asked to sit upstairs on the roof terrace to enjoy the great view on Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. The staff (friendly but pushy) allowed us only under the condition to eat something up there. So we did. The food we ordered was not tasty, organic or anything like that, but greasy and of minor quality. For this, the price was too high.

We did not return to Omar´s during our visit. I guess the vegan/ vegetarian place to be is by the Galata Tower where we found good place to eat.

Pros: great view, friendly staff

Cons: overpriced, low quality food, very touristic

Pros: Great view, Comfy seating

Cons: Have to walk 3 stairs

Second time's a charme.

We went there for lunch, but could not sit on the top floor because they had a group reservation. So we went somewhere else. But in the evining we returned. They said again sorry, and now we could have the best table. On the top floor by the window. We had soup, cheese rolles, a pasta and a vegetable plate. All very nice.

Pros: Nice view on top floor, Good food., friendly staff

Great, central location

Understood vegan diet. Made me a vegetable and mushroom pide without cheese. Had a ezme and hummus with pitta bread to start. Went back the next day for drinks only and the opportunity to sit in the roof terrace restaurant with great views over the city.

Pros: Friendly staff, Tasty food, Great views from roof terrace
