Fantastic Diner for 2

Lovely atmosphere. Gracious host. Beautiful food. And the alcohol-free wine alternatives. An amazing place to spend an evening with your better half. Go there if you want a quiet dinner to enjoy the person in front of you. Avoid if you want to use your smartphones. They make sure not to have chargers nor wifi for customers. They want to create a gadget-free zone and I love that. Just to have a diner without an annoying kid playing videos on their phone next to you is a bliss. When you go out with someone, you should talk to that someone and not with your phones. The kitchen is very beautiful.

Pros: Starters, Mains, Desserts

Cons: Unfortunately, close 11pm. I’d be all night there

"Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We are delighted that you appreciated our gadget-free approach. Our goal is exactly what you described: to create a space where guests can truly enjoy the food and the person in front of them without distractions. It is great to hear that you enjoyed the atmosphere and our alcohol-free wine alternatives. We look forward to welcoming you and your better half back for another blissful evening soon.

Wonderful Adventure

Okay, so I’d never heard of lion's mane. Or cupuaçu. Or graviola, dasheen, sea buckthorn... you get the picture. And I swear, I had no clue you could make a vegan ice cream from a porcine mushroom. Seriously, that was wild. This place completely blew my mind and I got to discover so many new things. I never thought of myself as a dumb, blonde Cali girl, but I realized I have so much more to experience.

Their dishes were all made with legit, natural products. So, heads up: if your thing is 'vegan burgers' and 'chik'n nuggets,' you're probably not gonna be into this spot. But if you're down to see what vegan food can really do, you gotta check this out.

The only downside? I don't live in London. This was our last stop on our trip from the States, and I would love to find a place like this in my city. It's so frustrating how much junk food vegan restaurants sell these days. I'll definitely be following their blog.

What a fantastic review to read! We are thrilled that you chose us as the final stop on your trip. It is wonderful that you were open to trying things like graviola and sea buckthorn for the first time. We take great pride in moving away from the burger and nugget culture to show the true potential of plant-based ingredients. Thank you for the high praise and for your interest in our blog. We wish you could take a little piece of our kitchen back home with you!

Oliveira Kitchen

The presentation of the food is outstanding. However, the portions are unbelievably small and the service is slowwww. Protein also seems to be an afterthought in many of the vegan dishes. The person I dined with had a vegetarian main and their overall food portion was less than mine. We were still hungry and ended up going to a food hall to get more food afterwards. The taste of the food was fine, but it would have been nice to have more substantial portions and some sort of protein.

Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you found our food presentation outstanding, as our team puts great care into every dish.
We're sorry you left disappointed. Looking at your photos, you and your friend had two starters and one appetizer, which are obviously smaller. Our menu is designed as a three-course dining experience. The only main course in your pictures appears adequately sized - I can also see you chose bread for just one person.
Regarding portion sizes, we recommend trying our main courses next time. Maybe if you both had main courses you wouldn't have had to go to a food hall instead. We did have more food in our fridges, which I personally spent the whole day preparing from scratch by hand.

We appreciate you mentioning protein. There's a common misconception that protein only comes from meat or alternatives. Our menus are packed with protein.

We showcase plant-based protein sources in their natural form. Your dishes contained several protein sources! The fig dish contains cupuaçu pâté and chayote.

The 'Assado Vegano' you had is one of my best creations. It features five of the most nutritious roots (maca, yam, dasheen, okinawa and cassava) plus cannellini bean puree - excellent protein sources with several essential micronutrients. Even the broccoli in the dish and the organic bread with lentil butter. All demonstrably good sources of protein and essential vitamins.

We're passionate about proving one doesn't need processed fake meats for substantial, delicious meals. And investing in ultra-processed junk that's mostly common in food halls isn't the solution for the environment, besides being terrible for your health.

We're committed to full sustainability - using organic and foraged ingredients while avoiding quinoa, avocado, and soy that cause deforestation in Peru, Mexico, and Brazil (my home country). We offer a real, sustainable alternative to the status quo.

Beyond protein, we focus on essential micronutrients missing from ultra-processed vegan junk foods. Your ceviche contained kaong (rich in potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron) and açaí palm-hearts (excellent source of manganese, copper, iron, potassium, vitamins B9 and B6, zinc).

As the chef, I work from 8am to midnight and personally cooked your food. I'm happy to visit tables explaining our ingredients' nutrient profiles as I often do, specially when the customers are nice and cordial. I'm proud of our work, even if often unappreciated.

Unforgivably stingy main course, insane dessert

First off, it's important to point out that Oliveira's website is quite wordy indeed. Some info is fun (they don't want kids in the restaurant, which is great) while other feels time-consuming, so you end up just skimming through their various terms and conditions and the rest of it. As a result, we might have missed that the Function Menu is only available under certain circumstances.. but our booking did actually state that we were intending to order it, and nobody contacted us about the error of our ways. As such, I went for three courses from the standard menu, while my friend just settled for a starter. Full disclosure, we were fresh off a visit to Unity Diner, where we had shared a small plate and devoured one dessert each.
I began with a ceviche of açaí-tree hearts and forest floor calamari, which sounds way more sophisticated than it was.. just a fresh and appetizing portion of food. The shock came when the main course was presented, a comfit white asparagus in graviola sauce. I didn't dislike this creation (in fact the sauce was rather gorgeous), but to call it a main course is seriously misleading, especially when served with cheap ingredients such as potatoes. For crying out loud, my friend's green asparagus dish included more food.. and it was a starter!
Thankfully I was able to get over the feeling of being essentially ripped-off, and dared have a dessert. I must confess, black truffle crème brûlée with porcini ice cream is not for the faint-hearted, certainly not for low-openness folks. It's not so much that I loved it, as the fact that I enjoyed being resolutely kicked out of my comfort zone, despite being a rather jaded, seen-it-all type of individual. Whenever I tell people that I've eaten this thing, their jaw just drops.
In conclusion, I did appreciate some of Oliveira's forward-thinking approach.. but in terms of main courses, they must up the ante.

Congratulations on Setting a New Low

Dear Mikel Sola, “Stockholm Ambassador” and self-proclaimed Happy Cow emissary,

Thank you for breaking new ground—just not in the way you imagined.
1. First-ever “Function Menu for Two.”
In six years nobody has asked for that. A “function,” by definition, involves a group. The website is clear, function is minimum 10 guests. How can I make you understand that? Yet you insisted, announced your spending limit, and then aired your confusion in public. Record-setting, indeed.
2. Misunderstanding the obvious.
Our website states—clearly—that the Function Menu is designed for events. This isn’t higher math. It’s reading.
3. Fresh food ≠ fast food.
We work with organic produce, zero microwaves, zero deep-fryers. Truffle crème brûlée with porcini ice cream and white asparagus isn’t a bargain-basement trio. If freezer-to-fryer is your comfort zone, London offers countless options. Bon appétit.
4. Sustainability costs what it costs.
Organic produce, ethical sourcing, and central-London rent aren’t funded by wishful thinking. If “cheap” outranks “responsible” on your priority list, Happy Cow might want a new ambassador.
5. Planet first, manners a close second.
Vegan or not, torching small businesses that practice genuine sustainability does nothing for the environment—though it does wonders for one’s ego, apparently.

We cater to guests who understand value beyond the price tag. That crowd keeps us busy enough, so feel free to dine elsewhere. Everyone wins.

Cordially (but only technically),

Emerson

Fantastisch

Great food and ambience

Delicious and inventive food. They make a point of 'no fake meat' (not that I have a problem with that!). This means that the dishes are really unusual and unfamiliar, in a good way. I was out celebrating and the host gave me a drink on the house to honour that, which was a really nice touch.

Pros: Ambience and staff , Food , Wine

Cons: The profiteroles weren't quite as nice as the rest

Delicious

The most beautiful kitchen design I've seen. You can see all the chefs working, no kitchen walls, all opened up. They clearly have nothing to hide. The chef goes to tables to talk to customers. What a breath of fresh air. The service is efficient and very friendly. What's not to like?! I see a few people go in with super high expectations. This restaurant is not the cheapest, but it's not expensive either, don't expect Michelin star service when you are not paying Michelin star prices. For their category, I think this is the best vegetarian restaurant I've been to in London in this level. The food is great and innovative, the wine list is superb. Service is careful and intimate.

Pros: no fake meats, no ultra-processed foods

Cons: you have to pre-order the tasting menu

Great find

I like the fact they don’t over do on the seasoning in every thing, which is the main problem I have with other places.
They prepare the food from scratch, so you can ask them to put less salt for you. It’s always a great sign to see chefs cooking dish by dish, you can see their dedication and love for what they do.

Didn’t quite meet expectations

Nothing was bad at all but most the dishes could have been better. The croquette starter was great but the cheesy pasta and aubergine were lacking seasoning and the profiteroles were quite nice but with the wrong pasty as they were hard rather than soft

Delicious Sunday lunch

We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch at Olivier’s Kitchen - a special belated birthday for my niece - and the intriguing menu with lots of foraged ingredients and Amazonian flavours. We chose a root-based roast with truly delicious Yorkshire puddings, veg and roast potatoes, and I couldn’t resist a fabulous vegan cheesecake. The food was beautifully presented and the service very friendly (we met the chef who told us about the sustainability principles which underscore his menu) - all in all a great discovery. I’m sure we’ll be back to try some more of the interesting menu!

Pros: Fresh veg-based roast not fake meats, Eco principles, Fine dining - mostly vegan

A delightful evening

Found this restaurant after finding out the one we were planning on going to was closed. Luckily they keep half the tables open for walk-ins.

We had the faux gras to start, I've never had the goose version but this was really good and a decent portion. I'm glad we got it to share.

I then had the fillets of trumpets royale. Grilled mushrooms with fried cassava in peppercorn sauce. It doesn't look like much but the flavour is immense.

For dessert we shared the matchamissu a green tea flavoured tiramisu with buckthorn ice cream. The ice cream was zingy and not a flavour I've ever tried before.

We'll definitely be heading back to try some of the other delights on the menu.

The Best Vegetarian Restaurant in London

I had an absolutely lovely time at Oliveira Kitchen last weekend. Everything from the food, staff, atmosphere and music was perfect.

My friend and I were one of the first to arrive and so we got to choose wherever we wished to sit. We chose the lovely table next to the beautiful indoor garden. After having one of the lovely staff give me a quick run through the menu I had the Forest Calamari for my starters and my friend had the Quail Egg with smoked potato mousse. Both the dishes didn't fail to impress. I'm not a big fan of poached egg but as soon as I gobbled my calamari up I helped my friend finish her dish up as well.

For the mains I had the Sea Flora Risotto, which was by far the best Risotto I've had. My friend had the Hen of the Woods and I of course made sure to grab a good few bites from her as well since the dish smelled as good as it looked. We ended up sharing the Matchamisu as we were so full. The dessert by itself is great but when paired with the Sea Buckthorn ice-cream is magnificent. I can't wait to go back and try out the rest of the menu. Overall a 10/10 experience.

Also, a quick shout out to their very extensive non-alcoholic drink section. The 0% wine spritzers are a must try!

Pros: Extensive and unique menu, Friendly and Professional Service , Great atmosphere

Cons: Wanted to try everything! Too many good choices!

My new fav veg restaurant in London

I have been there last night with my boyfriend. The staff was amazing. They explained to us all the different dishes there were on the menu. Extremely friendly and professional.
The venue is beautiful, just the perfect atmosphere with nice quiet relaxing music and it is full of amazing plants.
What Can I say about the food?
Well, you have to try! It was delicious! We got a starter, a main and a dessert and they were just unbelievable! Also, the selection of wine is really good (and I am Italian so I could not be more than impressed).
I would recommend it for sure and I will go back with no doubts!

Amazing food and service with unique ingredients

The food was really, really good. The menu was well designed, from the choice of region-specific seasonal ingredients down to the copy of the menu. I had the faux grois to start, which was incredible. My main was the hen of the forest, and cassava chips on the side - a new favourite. Haven’t had vegan food like this anywhere else in london, so highly recommend.

The wine menu was also extensive and the staff are knowledgeable about origins and pairings. Prices very reasonable for both the food and the wine. Worth it.

The general vibe in the restaurant was great with an open kitchen and plenty of plants. Chatty ambience but not too loud.

Pros: Thoughtful menu with seasonal ingredients , Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff, Nice ambience

Cons: Too many good choices

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review! We are so happy that you enjoyed the faux gras and the hen of the forest. It is great to hear that the cassava chips have become a new favorite. Our team puts a lot of work into the menu design and the selection of seasonal ingredients, so your recognition of those details means a lot to us. We are also glad you enjoyed the open kitchen and our wine pairings. We look forward to seeing you again for another round of choices!

A Delightful Culinary Journey at Oliveira Kitchen

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a modern vegan vegetarian restaurant, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. The menu was full of creative and delicious dishes that highlighted the natural flavors of plant-based ingredients. Each dish was beautifully presented, and the attention to detail was evident in every bite. What truly stood out to me was the exceptional level of service provided by the staff, who were knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the restaurant's mission to promote sustainable, plant-based eating. Overall, my visit to this vegan restaurant was a truly positive experience, and I can't wait to return and try more of their delicious offerings.

A place to explore!

A family owned and operated vegetarian restaurant with a creatively designed circular open kitchen in the middle of its cosy upper room.
The dishes are exciting and unique with unusual, exotic ingredients. The chef and the staff know their stuff, you can freely ask about the food and menu.
I had Oliveira's Faux Gras (really good!), Cream of Graviola and Celeriac (because Graviola is not something you often see), but also had a bite of Forest Floor Calamari which was exciting. I then had the Sea-Flora Acquerello which is basically a high-class risotto with sea vegetables and of course tasted amazing. Thanks to my wife I also had a taste of the Fillets of Trumpet Royale - I was told it is a popular choice among customers and I can see why, I think I liked that the most.
The dessert selection is very decent, too. I had the Amazonian Trio (all 3 sorbets look simple on the outside but each one is exciting in a different way) and had a taste of the Healthy Decadence (if you like chocolate at all, you can not go wrong with this one).
Their alcohol-free cocktail selection is also worth a mention: it is a very thoughtful addition and I'm glad I tried their Gin&Tonic!
Highly recommend this place to everyone, even (or especially!) to non-vegs. They are kinda hidden and unknown, but I have a feeling that fame is coming for them.

Pros: creative and tasty dishes, friendly place and friendly staff, decent portions

Cons: not for small children (understandably though)

unique and friendly

We spent a wonderful evening at the restaurant. It's a fabulous place with super nice staff and amazing food. Very creative menu, with veggies and fruits I have never even heard of, but they readily told me all about the dishes. I had the forest floor calamari and then the trumpet royale which had an amazingly tasty sauce. For dessert I went for the chocolate and it was unbelievably rich. They had absolutely no problem to veganize the dishes for me. Also they have a pretty big selection of non-alcoholic beverages, I enjoyed really great n.a. cocktails.

Pros: unique and creative menu, superb service , vegan options

A refreshing outlook on vegetarian cuisine!

Chef-owner Emerson was a linguist in a past life, and he clearly has a passion for sustainability and curating vegetarian cuisine.

It’s obvious that every detail on the menu has been meticulously thought out. From the names of the dishes, to the selection of the ingredients and curation. The food is influenced by his vast knowledge of international cultures and cuisine.

Was truly a refreshing experience. I had the 'hen-of-the woods' with okinawa gnocchi and algae ponzu.

Pros: High quality food and wine, Excellent customer service, Creative dishes

Hidden gem in Shoreditch

This restaurant is just beautiful, and I’m not talking about the lovely decoration but the amazing food. With a great atmosphere, amazing service, my partner and myself had a wonderful time over there (and he is not even vegetarian)
The food is really tasty, was freshly served. I’ve ordered a great organic Sauvignon Blanc wine and my partner had a taste of their organic rum and we just loved everything.
I truly recommend their Fillets of Trumpet Royale, it’s a must! Everything was beautifully cooked.
Oh and don’t forget to ask for the dessert, the Amazonian trio and the Cassava cake with Yuzu sorbet, makes the experience even better!
