Oko is more than okay! (It's great!) - Edit
Truly such an amazing spot for vegetarians in Japan. Lots of different vegetarian options, and the owner truly understands the ingredients we avoid. Can't recommend it enough.

Good food! - Edit
Vegan or vegetarian okonomiyaki! Yes please!! Alot of veggie options to add. I really liked the mushrooms and would have doubled up on those. For a single person the small is more than enough food. I also ordered the vegan gyoza which was 👌. Only one person (the owner) was working and was very sweet. Despite being the only person taking orders and cooking she handled it very well.

Cozy bar with amazing food - Edit
During my first attempt there was a bit of a line (with good reason) so I came back later in the evening and was able to get a table to myself. If you're a bit of a night owl this place open late even during weekdays. I ordered okonomiyaki (medium size) and some gyozas. If you're going by yourself be mindful this is pretty massive size. In hindsight small size would've been fine.
Read moreIt's super fun choosing you're own options. I would recommend to not be in not be in too much of a rush, as there was only one staff member doing everything and she was pretty much run off her feet cooking and serving, the poor darling, but was super cheerful nonetheless!
You need to self serve your own alcohol which was fine and easy to do. The menu gives clear instructions to just let the staff know you're getting another drink.
I had a lot of fun eating solo, and I'm sure it'd be even better with friends as it's a lively atmosphere.
Pros: Super tasty, Choose your own okonomiyaki toppings, Friendly staff
Cons: Seating is a little small if you're tall

Sigh - Edit
Let me preface this by saying I respect the hell out of the proprietor, Shiho-chan, who does EVERYTHING herself. But I just didn’t enjoy my experience here. Loud, uncomfortable, and the okonomiyaki didn’t taste like any okonomiyaki I’ve ever had. I didn’t like it. My husband had fun though, so your mileage may vary. I give it two stars, he gives it four, hence our combined score of three stars.

Great food and cheap drinks - Edit
This quaint place is definitely worth checking out, especially before a night out. Was stoked to find vegan okonomiyaki. My girlfriend and I were going to just share a large okonomiyaki, but the waitress informed us we both were required to order a meal (fair enough given the size of the restaurant and fairly standard for Japanese establishments), so instead we ordered a medium okonomiyaki and the yakisoba. I’m glad we did because the yakisoba was so good, the sauce was amazing.
Read moreYou can customise the okonomiyaki by choosing which ingredients you want and the wait staff confirm what is and isn’t vegan using a printed chart so there is no confusion.
Cool atmosphere with a kooky waiter and cute cat and dog videos constantly playing on a TV in the corner to keep you entertained as you eat and drink you fill of 180¥ drinks!

Decent flavour. Huge portions! Lovely owner - Edit
The okomyiaki comes in Small, Medium and Large portions - I'd say that the Large would be good to share between two people (if possible). The flavour was decent, with loads of toppings - and even a vegan mayo!

5/5 best place in Osaka - Edit
Very nice little "Japanese pub" with delicious food and good atmosphere. The okonomiyaki can be made vegetarian or vegan (and is gluten-free) and you can choose five ingredients like mushrooms, spinach, potatoes, okra, beans, etc.
Read moreDrinks are self-service which is great, and all drinks including beer or highball only cost 180 Yen! (almost cheaper than in konbinis or supermarkets)
Plus a very friendly and fun owner who seems really happy to have that place, it's very impressive how she manages all on her own.
We went there three times because we liked it so much.
Pros: Delicious food, self-service drinks, Lovely owner, Good prices

Book Ahead - Busy but Lovely Owner - Edit
What a shame. Our last night in Osaka and we couldn't get a spot for 2 even at 7pm. Book ahead unless you plan to go at opening time. Tried to wait in entrance area but smokers use that space. Also not accessible unless via steep steps.
Read moreThe staff, who must be the one person doing everything, is absolutely lovely and tried to help us find other veg places nearby to eat.
What we could see looked yum.
So book ahead, and only attempt to find it if stairs and smoking areas aren't an issue.
Great to see such a busy place, but sad for us hungry veg tourists.
Pros: Lovely person
Cons: Very busy

Good okonomiyaki & friendly staff - Edit
Gluten free, delicious, and many vegan saucing options. The vegan mayo was an awesome addition and they had chili powder and Tabasco sauce if you're like me and prefer something a little spicy. The fries were good too. They came with some stone ground mustard which was divine. You can also take away your leftovers, the okonomiyaki is pretty large. I'm an American and I could only finish half of my Medium size 😂 the staff was really friendly. The building is very small though, but they offer the food to go as well if you don't want to stay.
