Great place for a nice, quiet dinner - Edit
After a full day of sightseeing in the bustling city, I wanted to enjoy a quiet upscale dinner and this place delivered. They don’t have cocktails, but do have a good beer selection. As gringos, we had to order guac, which was very different (in the best way) with tofu and pomegranate. We also had a corn soup appetizer that was phenomenal. The al pastor tacos and pombazos were both really good. Highly recommend!

Not really Vegan - Edit
The menu is not really vegan. Be careful with salsas that might have chicken broth in it.

I wish we had a Mexican place like this in Chicago - Edit
We had two chances to come here and after our dinner with them, we had to come back to try more from their menu before we left the city.
Read moreEverything we tried was great and something unique to Mexico. I can't claim any spiritual experiences but I can say we will be coming back next time we're in Mexico, even if we're staying further away. IT'S WORTH THE TRIP.
Our favorites were the esquites, chicharron and the tetelas. I would also recommend trying the agua de guayaba.
The staff was incredibly friendly and even brought out a small bowl of water for our dog.

Superb, fresh Mexican food - Edit
The staff are very friendly. The food is sooooo good. The location is great and close to other vegan options. We will go back again for sure. We had the stuffed pumpkin flower, bean tacos and rice pudding between the two of us. Also, tried the red and pink Mexican wine. The latter was the better choice.

Instant fave. Creative, fresh & amazingly tasty - Edit
Ojo de Maiz stands out even among the many excellent restaurants in Mexico City, with its combination of virtuosic creativity, fresh, high-quality ingredients, warm service and inviting atmosphere. It’s one of the two or three best places we’ve found in Mexico (along with Los Loosers in Roma Nte). Here you can assemble a feast from several small dishes, each with its own unique wow.
Read moreThe squash blossom appetizer is extraordinary. The guacamole is unique and very tasty. The enchiladas with mole and tacos al pastor are also quite good. The tinga flautas with guac are nice in a fresh and simple way. The melon seed horchata is refreshing. And if you’re inclined toward dessert, the rice pudding is surprisingly rich with flavors.
Seating options include the main dining room, plus a couple of tables on the sidewalk as well as a charming private dining room next to the kitchen.
Service is warm and helpful. The atmosphere is very pleasant (though the music can be a bit loud for easy conversation, depending on where you sit). Both Spanish and English menus are available.
Highly recommended. Enjoy!

Incredibly good! - Edit
After a few disappointing vegan meals in CDMX, I finally hit on this place. I really wanted some vegan mole and they delivered. It was incredibly good. They said they were out of the mole enchiladas, but they went ahead and made me some mushrooms wrapped in tortillas and topped with the mole, which was perfect. I also loved the bananas moletes, kind of stuffed fried bananas with a tangy green sauce. Excellent!

Artisan Food - Edit
Everything we ate was special: well thought out, carefully prepared, and beautifully presented. I am sure you will love anything on the menu. We ordered two salads and two soups plus an appetizer, thinking they would be small portions. We were stuffed and still took some leftovers with us. The portions are medium size but filling.

Perfect quiet dinner spot - Edit
A surprising number of the vegan options in CDMX close early, so Ojo de Maiz is a rare find of vegan dinner drinks. Everything we had was delicious. And beware... the portions are generous!

Loved it here! - Edit
The waitress was very helpful. She explained a lot of things to me (since I didn’t know much about the dishes they’re offering). I ordered the betabel salad and the mushrooms tamal. I would like to try some more though. The attention was kind, efficient and fast.

Tasty and textured - Edit
Where Ojo de Maiz truly shines is its juxtaposition of textures as well as flavors and ingredients. Soup with perfectly tender vegetables with various thicknesses. Guacamole with pomegranate, vegan cheese, foot long plantain chips, and super crispy blue corn and white corn baked tortillas. Delicious Pambazos! Check it out before the secret gets out!

High quality Mexican cuisine - Edit
Really impressed with the quality of the ingredients, presentation and taste. And a great opportunity to try some authentic/modern Mexican food. The guacamole is great. I really enjoyed the tlalpeño soup. The ayocote bean stuffed tetela was a little bland on its own but much better with the green salsa provided.

Expensive, but good! - Edit
I’m still waiting on HappyCow to do half stars, so consider this a 4.5 star review that’s rounding down since the restaurant is at 5 stars currently.
Read moreWhile prices here definitely reflect the ongoing gentrification of the area and the flood of expats and nomads, the food is outstanding. The guacamole was some of the best I’ve had in a while, and just tasted perfectly fresh. Great texture and flavor, plantain chips to scoop with, and some multigrain chip things as well. Really really good.
The creole potato pambazos were tasty as well, I just would’ve liked a little bit more and perhaps a side salad or something accompanying them for the price. I know they’re a street food like tortas that are typically a la carte, but still.
That said, overall great and worth a visit.

Good vegan food - Edit
We enjoyed this place, my fiancé a little more than I did. I got the squash plate and while it was really tasty it was also deep-fried, I had gotten it because I was trying to be a little fat and calorie conscious after all the over eating I’ve been doing here. I found it a little difficult to figure out the preparation from the descriptions.
Read moreBut they were kind enough and we’re happy to add some fresh lettuce to Chandler‘s dish. I got the fresh vegetable soup with hot tortillas, the soup was absolutely delicious with limes and fresh onion on the side, the tortillas were piping hot. It was pretty amazing.
Our seat was perfect, our table was great to watch the plentiful parade of dogs and people near the sidewalk. The place itself is very small, and very casual.
I think the one thing that really marred my experience was a visit to the bathroom. There are three doors. It was like a kind of disgusting price is right game. I got a nasty surprise in each toilet, the last one leaving me fully nauseous by the time I got back to the table. I understand that Plumbing is delicate here, but there are some things you can’t unsee.

Here you’ll find some excellent less-common dishes. I loved every bite. You’re spoiled with so many great choices in CDMX, particularly Roma/Condesa, and I would put this place at the top.
