Eclectic Grocer -- NOT Health Food Store - Edit
Eclectic grocer carries elk and bison meat, but does not carry a most basic vegan item -- soy protein powder. Lots of fancy expensive tourist items, artisan bread, elite cheese, instant camping food. Does not disclose whether lunch buffet items are vegan, true vegetarian (not with fish or foul), have typical allergens, etc. They fail to keep buffet salad dressing properly chilled, and gave me food poisoning. While buffet costs nearly $8/lb., they repackage the leftovers (which have been exposed to the health risk of public self serving) and then charge even more. They have a stereotypical Oregon hippie vibe (don't care about details, even mismarking prices, you better count your change). But, they simply do not have a healthy food perspective, or a sustainable economy and ecology attitude. If you like Natural Selection or Whole Foods, then this is your kind of place, scaled down to coastal community size and quality.
Pros: Specialty items not elsewhere in Newport, Cool hippies, if that's your priority, One of a kind for Newport
Cons: No basic vegan protein, Priced for elite tourists

Cute little co-op - Edit
It's a cute little co-op which with a lot of food choices packed into a small location. This gives the impression of being a little cramped, but in a charming sort of way. Happy that Newport has place like this to shop at.

Good Mid-Sized Health Food Store - Edit
Mid-sized independent health food store. I'm a huge fan of independent health food stores. Their prices are a little on the high side, bulk and produce selections so-so and I wish the staff was a bit more knowledgable but I'd go to Oceana over a Safeway any day. It's not bad at all but I think they could do a little better.
Pros: independent
Cons: staff, bulk, prices

Member-owned; all welcome - Edit
Oceana is a fine natural foods co-op that met all our needs while we were on holiday in Newport. Produce, wine, organic ginger snaps (!). The hot food bar looked and smelled terrific; fresh sourdough bread two days a week; large bulk section; LOTS of organic products; pleasant little cafe seating section. This was a fantastic find.

Great food bar! - Edit
Excellent salad bar including prepared salads; homemade soups; and hot bar around lunchtime. Baked goods and prepared sandwiches/wraps as well. All the food is great, plus all ingredients listed for all dishes, a big plus!
Pros: great soups, good selection
Cons: no sandwiches to order
