Delightfully surprised by vegan offerings at OBAO Midtown - Edit
OBAO Midtown had a few different vegan options (including some dishes that could be made vegan). Staff seemed kind and knowledgeable about vegan substitutions (which wasn’t the case for the OBAO location in Hell’s Kitchen).
Read moreOrdered the following:
- Summer rolls (vegan by default): classic
- Kimchi Fries (made vegetable but includes egg in the sauce): DELICIOUS! Would go back for these fries
- Pad Thai (made vegan by removing fish sauce and egg and adding tofu): average sized portion, tasty!

Fixing my Dish Meant a Reduction in Size - Edit
Pretty disappointed with my experience at OBAO and it wasn't even due to the flavor or quality of the food, which was in fact really good.
Read moreI initially ordered a vegan pad see-ew ($18) with tofu and vegetables which was also advertised as such on their menu. When my food came, I took a bite and realized that they had incorporated egg into my dish. I reached out to the server to point out this mistake and they didn't seem to have the best reception to my concern. There wasn't any sense of an apology when she took my dish away to replace it with what I ordered.
Five minutes later, the new dish arrived and it was significantly smaller than my original dish. It went from four or so pieces of tofu to... just one. Just take a look at my photos and see for yourself.
For the hefty price, I really wanted to like the place. The ambiance was good and the menu options were fine, but the service and food didn't meet my expectations, even though my dish ended up being pretty tasty in the end.
Cons: Service seemed disinterested
