O Green Cafe, Hong Kong

I intend to check out again what is happening with this place. Stay tuned for an update to this review...

I've eaten here more than once and had enjoyable food. 1stly the dishes on the menu marked V are not just vegetarian but also vegan. Thus even though this place is omnivorous this in theory makes navigation around the menu much easier. There's 7 different dietary types marked on the menu such as low GI and low carbohydrate.

To be transparent about my personal preferences / biases, I prefer places that are 100% vego (100% vegan is even better). If this place was 100% vego then I'd rate it higher than I have below. where places like this I find can be very useful though is when dining with someone who refuses to go somewhere all vego. In such situations places like this can make a sensible compromise option for both parties.

There is though one serious concern I have about this place that has my confidence in this place crumbling. There's a breakfast menu on the door. There's a dish listed as vegan but containing egg. Similarly on the menu with the cheese in the allegedly vegan sandwich. This in my opinion seriously undermines confidence that the restaurant management and kitchen are genuine about targeting a vegan clientele.

On an aesthetic point there's a picture on the wall that is usually seen in butcher's that shows the different cuts of meat on a cow. In my opinion this adds nothing to the dining experience. Indeed some of the more sensitive vegetarians I know could find this somewhat off putting.

There are numerous potential pluses about this place. However in my view the restaurant management need to quickly sort the concerns I mentioned with the menu. If the management here genuinely understand what vegan means, they need to back that up with a message that 100% consistently shows that.

Pros: Tasty food, Helpful waitress

Cons: Not 100% vego, The menu needs clarified urgently, The beef cuts picture
