Hunged the over, I was nearly ded... I walked out on a soul-food high.

The drummies were some of the best I've had. The 'beef'&broc, equally triumphant.

There is plenty to choose from. If u r as hunged the over as i was, u may need a chaperone to walk u through and help u choose/communicate/stand.

It's quite a long dark space, which was also good if u r as near to the edge as i was. But also strange, given the huge open window to street and curious quantity of downlights.

Has the feel of a community driven centre. Love this place. Will be back.

Pros: Much to choose from, cheap, drummies

Everything I've been missing!!

Fantastic vegan soul food. I was skeptical about the fried "chicken" but it was AMAZING. The texture was so on point. Mac and cheese was pretty good, the sweet kale reminded me of a delicious dish I'd eat at family barbecues growing up, and the strawberry cheesecake was PHENOMENAL. Literally no complaints about this place. You need to check it out.

Pros: fast, but delicious , recycles, black-owned business

Omni-Approved!

All vegan, cafeteria-style, soul food restaurant! The employees were very friendly and were generous with giving samples. The portions given were huge, and $13 could easily get you two meals.
The lasagna and chicken sandwich were absolutely amazing, and the chicken salad was quite good as well. I didn't particularly enjoy the red curry tofu, but the other delicious food more than made up for it.
The owner claims 90% of his customers were not vegan, but once they tasted his food, they kept coming back for more. If you're looking for a place to bring your Omni-skeptic friends, NuVegan is your best choice :)

Pros: 100% vegan, Lasagna and Fried Chicken Sandwich were phenomenal, Huge portion sizes (I had trouble finishing half o

very wide menu; nice space

all good stuff. though the vast menu and array of ordering options is dizzying. i'd advise that they streamline, focus on top-sellers.

sosososo good

The fried chicken is to die for and the tuna mac lives in my dreams every night. The desserts are just as incredible as the mains.

New favorite vegan restaurant in DC.

So good it’s dangerous! Hands down the best Mac and cheese I’ve had as a vegan. It was so flavorful and creamy a perfect companion to the collard greens which melted in my mouth. I brought a coworker who couldn’t believe the fried chicken was vegan. Definitely on my list to eat at every time I’m in DC. I highly recommend! Also don’t skip the cheesecake it’s equally amazing!

Home Damn Run!

The food was fantastic. Boyfriend had drummies and they were delicious, he also had collard greens and they were the best I’ve ever eaten! I had chicken sandwich and it was delicious but wasn’t expecting it to come with BBQ sauce so be aware of that. Mac and cheese was average. I thought it was pretty dry, definitely not creamy... You can’t go wrong here!

Pros: amazing food

Cons: very weird order process.

Quickly Becoming A Great Love

I’ve been to NuVegan twice in the last week and both times have been incredible! The main selections are varied and amazing, the dessert doesn’t disappoint and the juices and smoothies are amazing. The prices are fair and there’s even couches for lounging and eating. Definitely going back again!

Pros: short wait, great food , great lounge area

Brunch - good, but slow

We went here for brunch. It was VERY good food. But, when my spouse ordered - they didn't tell him that what he ordered wasn't ready and would be a while. When I was halfway done my meal, he went up to check on his and the guy was kinda rude. His food didn't come out until after I was done eating and they never checked on us, apologized, or gave him an ETA (even when he asked twice because it was almost an hour and we had somewhere to be)

HOWEVER -- I would give them another chance because the food was REALLY good. I just hope this was a bad day for them.

Exquisite Vegan Soul Food

This place is the absolute best vegan soul food I have ever tasted. They have everything from Vegan chicken, Mac and Cheese, collards, kale, deserts, and more! NuVegan sets the bar in my opinion for vegan soul food places.

Awesome food and vibe!

Nuvegan serves up a fresh, new take on soul food: a plant-based one. The food is phenomenal, and the variety of options could make any vegan’s heart flutter. Treat yourself to a burger, a slice of sweet potato cheesecake, or a fresh smoothie. I haven’t met a dish that I didn’t like.

Pros: Vegan as heck, Delicious, Cool vibe

Slow and Not Super Healthy

Vegan? Yes. Healthy? No.

This is classic soul food with a vegan twist. Aside from being plant-based, health isn’t a priority. Even the veggie wrap was slathered in mayonnaise and hummus wasn’t an option. It took nearly 20 minutes for the food to be brought out despite the restaurant having plenty of open tables.

On the plus side, the staff was super friendly and the environment was very welcoming. Their vegan shakes are delicious and can be made with a variety of milks (soy, almond, hemp, etc) and without sugar if requested. This was the highlight of my visit.

Bottom line: if you’re just looking for some good old fashion vegan home cooking, this is your place. If you’re not interested in fat, calories and sodium then skip it.

Good food but too slow

Our family of four visited NuVegan in College Park and arrived a few minutes after 11 am on a Saturday. The staff was very friendly and took our order right away. After waiting for 35 minutes for the food, we went back up to the counter and were told they were working on it and to please be patient. We asked if any of it was ready and they were soon able to hand us all of it. I can't help but wonder how much longer it would have taken if we weren't standing there telling them we had to go.
The two crab cakes and chick'n sandwich we got were ok but mostly tasted like fried batter. The greek salad was very fresh tasting. The cheese steak sandwich was rated as "ok" but chunks of meat rather than the typical shredded form that cheese steaks usually are. (We've had WizKid in Philly and this nothing special in comparison.)
I hope that NuVegan can speed up their cooking times or at least warn customers that grilled items are going to be slow. We would have ordered from the already made choices if we had known the wait time as we had tickets for an event at the Clarice and barely made it.

Pros: Lots of variety on the menu, Lots of seating, Friendly staff

Cons: Slow service, Mediocre food

simply awesome

I haven’t had one item from this place that I didn’t love
I am addicted to the tacos. And OH EM Gee the cheesecake
So happy that I work in the area.
Although I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting many vegan restaurants I challenge any other to dethrone them.

you can’t tell the difference

As a new vegan, I often look for foods that remind me of “the dark side,” you know, back when I ate meat and dairy. The food was so delicious and my non-vegan friend loved it. The staff was so nice and helpful. They allowed me to try 6 different samples before I ordered. It is definitely worth the trip. By the way, it is cafeteria style dining.

Comfort food

Should be on your list if you are in town. I had a very nice lunch there for a very reasonable price. So many options to choose from, it was heartbreaking to make a choice. I would definitely come back for another meal maybe to try the brunch!

Pros: lots of vegan options, tasty and filling, fair prices

Love This Place

The BBQ tofu, Mac and cheese and corn bread was so good! I wanted to try dessert but I was not able to finish my food. The portion size was great. The staff was friendly and I love the set up in the place. Even my 6 year old was impressed with her drummies and fries. One of my new favorites.

Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Environment

beyond amazing!!!

OH MY GOODNESS! My mom’s and my exact words after every bite of food! I had the crab cakes and my mom had the fish. We both had the collards and Mac & cheese as sides. This food is beyond amazing. I love in San Diego and literally want to fly back for this! So good. Oh and the coconut walnut cookie was so good too. Everything was a amazing including the service. I definitely have to come back for brunch.

Pros: FOOD - Everything , service , price

Cons: that I can’t finish it all :)

Post-Race treat!

Great food and a great staff! The location is "ok", but not bad (I almost missed it). The vegan chik'n sandwich hit the spot! After running the Navy/Air-Force Half-Marathon, I needed something good! I had never been to DC since becoming a vegan, so I wasn't sure what was available. This place was on point

Pros: Great food abd the can alter just about anything p

Cons: Cheap to moderate $$$

Delicious

The flavor of the food is excellent! The portions are very generous. This will be my go to place whenever we visit family in Maryland. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone craving perfectly seasoned soul food vegan style and believe me when I say you don't have to be vegan to ENJOY this food.

Vegan/eco

Our food was good but the kitchen looked dirty. When I asked for a plate since I was eating in they pointed toward the plastic to go containers. I again asked for a plate since I was told they offer it if asked and was given a greasy dirty plate. When I showed the cook it he said just take the plastic box. Every eats from plastic toss away containers since plates are dirty or on the down low.

really good soul food

Currently visiting D.C. and been to other vegan restaurants already. Came to this place 2x already because its food is just really tasty compared to the other ones that we have been to in downtown area.
Note that you got to go order your food in the back and then pay at the cashier (front).
One thing though... they use a lot of plastics for the packaging. All orders are treated as to-go, no plate options. The plastics aren't biodegradable or compostable either. May be recyclable.

Pros: good food, lots of choices (cooked and raw), soft-serve sometimes

Cons: plastic to-go containers, waiting for orders can be long depending on crowd
