Unique - Edit
This was a cool cafeteria style and had lots of options! Portions were very good size. It didn’t look the cleanest and wasn’t the most comfortable setting but I enjoyed my overall experience and would go back to try more. The “chicken wings” was the best vegan chicken I ever had. #eatingwithshelbie

Comforting vegan soul food - Edit
I ordered their food from Ubereats last time I was in D.C. and felt it was finally time to try it in person. I’m very happy I did. The chicken fingers were delicious and so was the Mac n cheese and crispy veggies. I also had a strawberry smoothie and took a cookie home. Will be back for sure!

Best vegan soul food ever - Edit
This place is incredible. I couldn’t decide what I wanted and the lady was kind enough to let me sample several items. Some notable things: creamy, luscious mac n cheese, collard greens were on point, mom said she’d go vegan if she could have the chicken drummies everyday, lasagna —just wow. And to top it all off I had the blueberry cheesecake, which was soo dang good, although I wish it had a little more of a crust. Nonetheless, everything was solid on flavor and texture. Will be back!😄

Wow - Edit
Just wow. Everything here was AMAZING. THE CHICKEN TASTES INDISTINGUISHABLE..,., but honestly so did everything else. One of the best vegan spots I’ve been to. Be mindful though, if you’re super health conscious, this isn’t the place for you.

Another D.C. Staple - Edit
NuVegan is definitely one of the more intriguing vegan restaurants that I've visited. They specialize in soul food, and have upped the prices the last few years as their popularity has increased. They also have a smoothie stand with more decent prices.

My favorite restaurant in DC - Edit
While I was staying in DC, I ate here about twice a week. It’s hands down my favorite place in the whole city. Vegan soul food? Say less.

very enjoyable vegan soul food - Edit
Good food. It is the standard Vegan soul food for the area, so it is good with many options. Down side is how processed some of it is.

MUST-EAT for any soul food fans - Edit
If soul food is your thing, head straight here. All the fried chicken, mac & cheese, and veggies you'd see down south now made vegan! The chicken is supreme, and the options for smoothies are great too. The mac takes some getting used to (made with soy milk) but it's top of its class

First time trying out NuVegan. Pretty spacious restaurant with great faux meat options! Not a fan of their milkshakes, but their sandwiches and hot sides are pretty delicious!

Traveling in DC for the weekend, we found NuVegan. The food was amazing! The best corn bread in the world. So many choices. The manager and all the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, talented, and helpful. Comfort food, smoothies, juice, and desserts. Yum.

Great comfort food - Edit
I had the vegan fried chicken drummies and my boyfriend had we BBQ tofu with brown rice. We both very much enjoyed our meals! My boyfriend had a peanut butter milkshake and I had a pina colada milkshake. Turned out they had made my shake with soy milk instead of coconut milk, but before I had even noticed, a member of the staff came with the drink made the correct way and their apologies! The shakes were very delicious.
Read moreThe interior and the layout of the order area are a bit dark and awkward. That's a pity, because the food is good. But the looks of it could put off potential customers.
Pros: Delicious vegan options , Not too expensive , Friendly staff

GOOD FOOD, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - Edit
My experience started bad with the cooking staff in the back making rude remarks not friendly at all!! Their all young college kids with no professionalism what so ever, fortunately the lady in the front seems to be the most matured and professional, great food but they may piss u off to the point where you’ll go elsewhere where, THEY NEED TO BE RETRAINED OR FIRED!

Food was great, weird layout - Edit
The food was super great and i wish there was a 4.5 rating but the lay out of the building is weird, you order your food in this odd back room then go to the front to pay and buy drinks. this is very confusing for someone new, also the interior design isn’t the cutest, but they have couches which i love. other than that the employees where nice and i was impressed my they amount of people coming in.

Dreaming About this Food - Edit
I had the opportunity to eat at NuVegan Cafe while traveling. I haven't stopped dreaming about it since! This food is spectacular. The Chick'n Drummies were so good that I wished I had ordered twice as many. The collard greens were smoky and delicious and the mac and cheese was so creamy and flavorful, the best I have had since becoming vegan. I wanted to try everything on the menu. I wish I lived closer so that I could go back all the time. My non-vegan family members were very impressed as well. I had at least 3 people tell me that the Crab Cake Sandwich was one of the best items on the menu, so I sure wish I had tried that too! I will just have to go back again one day.
