Great comfort food - Edit
I'm visiting Maryland from out of town. I had the vegan Chik'n Drummies w/ BBQ, the sauteed cabbage, and the vegan Mac 'n' cheese. I also had an oatmeal raisin cookie for dessert. Everything was delicious.

Too much Soy - Edit
I love NuVegan. I stopped eating there because there is SOY in everything, per menu. Salads, sanwiches, cakes, bread. I cannot eat so very much soy! Some women cannot partake of soy. Soy induced breast cancer is real. This is not my issue, but for some women it is.

Cons: Soy in everything!

Food & Service Excellent - Edit
My non-vegan friends and I were in town for a conference and had the opportunity to stop by NuVegan June 23, which was conveniently located near The Hotel. The service was superb. After letting the staff know we were first-timers from out of town, they patiently assisted us with samples of practically everything to ensure we were satisfied before we left. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious, and thankfully, my non-vegan friends enjoyed it just as much as I did. Five thumbs up from us!

Cons: There is not a NuVegan Cafe in Detroit.

So good! And when I say good I mean delicious! The Chick’n Drummies were amazing and pretty close to the real thing (I used to love fried chicken 😥). Lasagna was awesome as well, everything really! Pretty impressed!

Vegan comfort - Edit
Deliciously affordable, filling vegan dining. Comfort food, soulfully southern comfort. Previously had eaten at the other location. This location, near University of Maryland, is laid out a bit different, and the food is just as good! Order at the counter, either from menu, or combo platter from extensive buffet. The restaurant was changing out grills in prep area the day we went, necessitating either a 30+ minute wait for something off the grill or fried. So we opted to just order from the buffet. Very affordable combo platter options were entree and two sides, or combinations of varying numbers of sides. Made to order smoothies, juices also available.
Read moreThe BarBQ tofu entree was quite good, well seasoned with the tofu having marinated in the sauce; good crispy texture. The ginger tofu was also deliciously well seasoned, and not soggy. Creamy, tasty, mac & cheese. Collard greens also well seasoned, and just right, well
done, from fresh greens.
Pina colada smoothie with a coconut milk base was nicely thirst quenching; flavorful and not too sweet.
Very generous portions of both entrees and sides, enough to share, or save for leftovers.
Food is served in recyclable take out containers, making carryout of leftovers conveniently easy.
Recycling bins next to trash bins. Only thing missing was a compost bin.
Friendly, courteous, knowledgeable staff.
Large, clean bathrooms.
In a shopping area just off main campus; very affordable parking, yet limited because of busyness of area.
Pros: 100% vegan comfort food, affordably priced, deliciously tasty
Cons: busy area; parking can be an issue

Got burgers, Mac and cheese, cornbread (my fave) and a bunch of other stuff. I recommend ordering with your eyes- they have all the sides in buffet style so you can see what calls to you. And go with an empty stomach, the portions are generous!

slow food - Edit
I went for the brunch with my carnivorous mother and little sister. We spent a LONG time waiting for the food. Everyone was really tired of waiting. There wasn't even a big crowd, just a few people. I really don't know why it would take so long.
Read moreI got French toast with side of sausage and cinnamon apples. I liked the sides, but I thought the French toast was pretty dry. My family liked the French toast though. My mom got the breakfast burrito with a side of tofu scramble. It was really good! There are many options to choose from which is great. But overall, I would not come back because the service was so slow. Maybe the location in Dc is better.
Pros: good food, lots of choices, good price
Cons: very very slow

Probably the best vegan restaurant I’ve been to so far in my first 2 months of being vegan. Huge portions, friendly staff, so flavorful. Too bad I’m only visiting.... I’m definitely getting some sides to go for the work week.

Pleasantly surprised! - Edit
I lived in CP on and off for years as I was a student and then a graduate of UMD. When this cafeteria vegan restaurant opened, I was skeptical. In college towns, these often seem like gimmicks and don't always have the best food. My parents are SOS-free vegans and will not eat here because of the oil and salt, but I've gone with veggie friends and have to say, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find nearly all the food more than palatable!
Read moreThe first time I went here, we all got different things and shared, and I ate the leftovers for days afterwards.
The only issues I had were the dishes were sometimes over-salted and often quite oily. However, the majority of the dishes are flavorful without being overpowering and made from healthy ingredients. It isn't terribly expensive, although a little pricey on a college student's budget, but the amount of food you end up with for the price is a lot!
Pros: Choice
Cons: Salty, Oily

Funny Location...right next to a burger joint. So you can take your carnivore friends if they refuse to eat with you.
Read moreI had the black bean burger and my 8-year-old daughter said she might have to be a vegan too because it is was so good.
Also had cooked cabbage and garlic kale salad. Daughter had Asian noodle salad.
They do give 3 samples, which is nice because she got to try a different noodle salad and didn't care for it.
We also got a gigantic chocolate chip cookie to go. Yum!!
2-24-17. Had to come back to try something else. Crab cake, Mac & cheese, and Peanut butter shake....OMG!! Going to call a girlfriend now and plan a lunch date for next week so I can get it all again! (Also had Collard greens, but too salty for my taste.)
Pros: nice and roomy restaurant, free samples (3), friendly staff
Cons: parking can be hard

Fast casual vegan - Edit
We decided to explore the brunch option here, it is very tasty, and we left feeling like we need to come back soon to taste more. Great french toast, veg sausage, cheesy grits, fried chicken drumstix, biscuits and tofu scramble. Nothing was a downer. We went back for lunch to get carryout steak sandwiches. They're not Philly style, but they are good, more of a bbq flavor.
Read moreReally deserving of a more upscale atmosphere, but hey - if you don't like it, you can always get carryout.
I was not impressed with the service for brunch. We went back for lunch and the wait time was really long. Glad to see more vegans, but wish that management was better prepared!

Tasty and Friendly! - Edit
I only recently learned that there was another branch of Nuvegan/Woodlands in college park. I do not suggest passing this place by. Seriously, go here. They have an extensive menu, ranging from the best fried chickn and macncheese i have had, to raw items and veggies. Although i got carryout, the atmosphere looked like a great place to hang out. They have free wifi too. I only wish they were close enough to deliver :(

Nu Vegan has such a great selection of hot sides, cold sides, and baked goods. Their portions are huge and the quality is excellent, and so satisfying. I got the red curry tofu, which had the perfect level of spice and the sautéed cabbage (Nu realllly knows how to do cabbage right). I got a strawberry cupcake for dessert and it was a treat to have such a fresh strawberry taste throughout the super moist cake and icing. This is an absolute must for vegans if you're in the College Park area!!!!

I really love it here. Sort of an a la carte. They let you taste samples.
Read moreI absolutely adore that they have their menu precisely marked with items you might be trying to avoid. If you are trying to avoid soy, it's clearly marked what has soy and what doesn't. If you're avoiding gluten etc.

Vegan fast food and cafeteria - Edit
Since NuVegan opened in College Park, it's been my go-to place for take out when we don't feel like cooking dinner. The sandwiches tend to be a bit on the fried-and-fast-foodish side, but they are definitely worth trying - especially the crab cake sandwich. They are also larger than one person can comfortably digest at one sitting. I mostly stick with the hot dishes, which rotate daily. Favorites are the bbq tofu, eggplant parmesan, and salisbury steak. The "cheesy" dishes like the lasagna and mac n cheese tend to be too creamy/salty for me. The smoothies are very nice, set off by a pinch of cinnamon. The peanut butter smoothie is a bit of a unique offering and definitely worth trying. It's great to have a reliable vegan place in the neighborhood.
