Optional vegan menu and friendly staff

We sat outside with the pooch, they have a vegan menu on request. The staff were very friendly and gave Rhubarb a dog treat too!

Vegan menu

Great choice on the vegan menu, very unusual for a non-vegan cafe and in a small town.
We sat outside as we had our dogs with us. Had fish & chips & toastie’s, all great!

Excellent seperate vegan menu!

We checked out the main menu and nothing sprung out as explicity vegan friendly despite the clear marking on the exterior - but after asking we got the seperate all-vegan menu!

It had loads of great options, from fish and chips to toasties and salads, none of which was over-priced. The portions were ideal (and we generally eat a fair amount) and came with an excellent side salad.

Zero qualms, for a small town it was surprising to see somewhere making such a strong effort to cater for plant-based ppl. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was really chill and unpretentious - check it out!

Awesome!

Pros: Great seperate menu for vegans, Chilled atmosphere, Lovely staff

Good vegan options

Separate vegan menu available on request with quite a few interesting options. We opted for the vegan tuna and cheese sourdough toastie, and a garlic mushroom/cheese toastie. Both came with salad and were delicious. Followed up with a superb vegan biscoff cheesecake. Coffee was excellent and was served with vegan biscuits on the side (presumably as we had requested the vegan menu). Great selection of teas. Staff were friendly and tables/chairs were being thoroughly cleaned in between customers.

Different vegan choices!

We called in for lunch having seen the reviews on Happy Cow. Unfortunately the vegan menu is not brought as a matter of course, I had to ask for it, so bear that in mind if you’re going.
I had the vegan chicken goujons which were fab, and hubby had the Mango salad with feta, which he enjoyed. He would’ve gone with the vegan mango feta salad, but the waitress made a point of saying he could have ‘proper’ feta, so they lost a star for that. He happily eats vegan feta all the time. The cafe was very busy, but wait times not too long. I had a tea with oat milk, soy milk is also available. Choice of three vegan desserts, but we were too full to try them.

Pros: Separate vegan menu with good options.

Cons: Bit of an attitude towards ‘vegan’ or so it felt, Had to ask for the vegan menu

Cosy, friendly, tasty

Ask for the separate vegan menu. I had a delicious garlic mushroom and cheese toastie with a side of chips. Even the side salad was high quality and well presented. Several good looking options. The chocolate cake with vegan ice cream was not quite as good as the main but to be commended nonetheless.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Plenty of options , Multiple vegan desserts

Wonderful vegan menu

There’s a separate vegan menu with lots of yummy options. I had a mango salad and a spiced apple cake. Both were really really good. I love that they have an extensive tea menu too.

Fantastic Vegan Options

Number Forty Four is a cafe right in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale and we went for lunch as they have an excellent vegan menu, with options to suit everyone. We ordered coffee accompanied by a mini cookie in fact we had a choice and we chose chocolate and hazelnut. I ordered asparagus and cauliflower soup and my husband avocado and mushrooms on toast. The food was fantastic, the soup was the best I have eaten in a long time, served with sourdough toast and the avocado and mushrooms on toast got the big thumbs up.

We could not resist cake, so ordered a flapjack, cherry and chocolate cake, with two Earl Grey teas and oat milk, once more served with a vegan sweet treat. The cakes were scrumptious, I have tried making flapjacks and failed as they end up hard and dry, but this had a soft chewy texture, just perfect. The cherry and chocolate cake was wolfed down by hubby, which says it all really, a great combination of flavours.

On a previous visit last July, we had a cheese, pesto and tomato toasties (see main photos) and is the best toastie I have every eaten, it was totally lush.

Number Forty Four is a fabulous place for vegans, I cannot recommend it highly enough and if I lived nearby I would never be away. If you are in the vicinity definitely pop in you will not regret it.

Amazing vegan options!

I had the garlic mushroom sourdough toastie and it was delicious, really good portion size and plenty of cheese! Normally places skimp out on vegan cheese but they were super generous and and the staff were all very friendly 💞 would love to come back again
Ps: I would put 5 stars but the website won’t let me !! 😱

Pros: Great portion size, Friendly staff, Lovely atmosphere / decor

Vegans deliciously catered for

Not vegan but lots of choice for us.
The cakes are unbelievable, have never tasted better anywhere. Beautifully presented too.
The two owners are so accommodating and nothing is too much trouble for them.
Can't recommend highly enough.
Thank you Number 44!

Pros: Lots of vegan options - you must have a cake too!

Good option

Came here for a quick lunch. They have a separate vegan menu and the staff are knowledgable about what is vegan. We ordered the cheese, tomato and pesto toasties which comes with salad. When it arrived at our table the salad had a creamy looking dressing on it but the waitress confirmed (without me asking) that everything including the dressing was vegan. I really liked that as it made me feel more comfortable eating in an omni restaurant.
The toastie was nice. They were using violife I believe so bear that in mind if you don’t like the texture when melted.
We also shared a chocolate orange and marzipan cake and a brownie. They were nice but the texture of the “brownie” was off so it was just a chocolate cake. Served with vegan ice cream, it was good.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Knowledgable staff

Good effort

Had the cheese toasty and the fishless bap and chocolate brownie. Decent vegan snack menu,
A variety of non dairy milks. Had almost given up on finding food in Kirby Lonsdale until I saw the vegan sign in the window. Great friendly staff, quick service, much appreciated.

Pros: variety of non dairy milks, fair price and convenient, tasty cakes

Cons: not fully vegan :(
