Room service!

I recently stayed at the Marriott which offers this restaurant as room service to its guests. I arrived after a long flight from Asia…basically ordered every vegan thing on the menu and was not disappointed!

Reduced menu

I have now eaten here on two occasions and have therefore tasted everything on their three course vegan menu which has two options for each course. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Different options to the online menu so hopefully that means it will change from time to time. Nice environment, cloth napkins, candle effect, water topped up, staff will take coats etc. Good choices for omnivores so a great spot for a group with mixed preferences. A shame that the vegan menu is not automatically given out so more people could have that option. Both times I had to request it even though, on the second occasion, I had mentioned it in my online table reservation. Lots of fruits and vegetables in the dishes rather then just an absence of animal products which is fantastic for those interested in nutrition rather than eating meat substitutes. Watch for the 10% service charge, especially if you are splitting the bills.
UPDATE. It is Feb 2022 and unfortunately there is no longer a vegan menu. The main menu had one starter and that is it (a jackfruit Caesar salad). The waiter spoke with the kitchen to see what the chef could do. We ended up with cocktails, olives, smoked almonds, jackfruit Caesar salad to share. We had vegan meatballs with rice each. Sides of green veg and Patatas bravas to share. It was not bad. Around £70-75. Very spacious and lovely waterside location.

Pros: Delicious well presented food, Proper plant based but there is a brownie too, Lovely environment

Cons: Small vegan selection, Not sure how often they change the menu, Obligatory 10% surcharge even for small parties

Reduced menu, made adjustments but was difficult to negotiate

Would have given 2.5 if it were an option. This was OK for me as I was in a group of omnivores but I would not chose to come here specifically. Had to sort of fight with one staff member who didn't understand what I was asking for and refused to make adjustments but then the manager helped. In the end I got a £11.45 salad so not overly happy but it was adequate.

Velli good

Update: went again and had the chickpea tagine- it is delicious. Warm but delicately spiced. I loved it as did my son! Great quality and hugely filling.

Jean Christophe Novelli, for those who don't know, is a French celebrity chef who found fame in UK TV.
I had another tough time finding this place. Basically it is attached to the AC (or is it AG?) Hotel that is in city Quays. Near the post office where you collect your missed Amazon packets if you are from Belfast. So park on that street or nearby and walk round. It's actually a nice waterfront location that hasn't really opened up yet. Surprisingly close to the town centre and a good view of the river, nice and flat for bicycles. Directly opposite the river from the failed and dirty - and badly run - odyssey arena, NIs own millennium dome style white elephant. Looks better from a distance, believe me. I'm saying this because if you are attending a show / pop concert / mostly atmosphere free regular season ice hockey game (thanks OTC) do not eat in the Odyssey / SSE arena as there are no options and they'll be queued out full of patrons. Novellis is well within walking distance over the Lagan bridge and back parallel to the direction you came and whats more the food is actually decent.

As for the place itself, ate with my family as my dad had obtained a Groupon or voucher of some sort. There is a vegetarian (dairy containing) option on the main menu , however there is also a special vegan menu that you can ask for. This is well stocked. The starters you get for yourself (as much as you want it think) from a self service buffet. The menu identifies what's vegan but it's common sense enough. For mains I selected the roasted Aubergine as a risky move - very easy to get this squidgy and sharp tasting vegetable wrong. Wasn't perfect, but was very good. Well seasoned, not tough or undercooked and a range of tastes on plate from sweet - savory - spicy. All food here is cheffy and served in a relaxed but semi formal atmosphere. Desert was brownie plus poached pears.
All in all well above average and certainly adds something unique to the veg scene in Belfast. Pretty glad to have tried.

Mediterranean and French influenced brasserie

A Jean-Christophe Novelli restaurant. The restaurant has a separate vegan menu. The vegan food that we ordered was fantastic, as was the service and the view from our table.

Pros: Restaurant with a view, Great service , Great food
