tasty vegan Tantanmen - Edit
The Vegan Tantanmen was delicious, however it was missing some meat substitute (e.g. minced soy). Also, that night‘s staff seemed a bit annoyed, even though we didn‘t cause him any extra work. Maybe he had a bad day.

There is just one vegan option but you can vary your add ons and it is clearly labeled. It was delicious. Very creamy. The staff speak English and one of them was vegan herself.

The soup of the ramen was absolutely scrumptious. It was a bit too spicy for my taste, but in general it was amazing ramen. Staff was very helpful and friendly, even gave me cubes of ice when I told them that my mouth hurts because of canker sores. Only 1000¥, very cheap.

The vegan ramen is clearly listed on the ticket vending machine. Their homemade chili oil and garlic oil are also vegan. I’d recommend adding one of the oil and coriander and/or fresh garlic. It’s so good.
Read moreHowever, the portion might be small (although it’s probably regular size in Japan) if you are used to eat big portion, get extra noodles. Over all, I am satisfied with their food and service!

You order from the machine outside and if a queue, you might need to wait.
There are about 6 sit down table spaces and 8 counter spaces.
They are pretty quiet at making the food and will check your order before you sit so they can start preparing it ready for you to eat straight away.
Pros: Tasty vegan noodles, Nice vibe, Cheap 1000 yen for delicious noodles
Cons: Only one vegan dish, Possibly a queue

It is a pretty unique experience for me as a German guy from the country side. The vegan tan tan bowl was so creamy and the spicy note was just right. I had a nice conversation with the cook he told me a little bit about his style of cooking. They also had some cool music going. I would love to come back tomorrow and order the same delicious bowl again. The place was also really clean and you can easily order your food in front of the restaurant.

You can add a lot of sides into your ramen. I added coriander, garlic, oil sauce, and some extra veggies. I believe the broth was a mushroom soy based sauce, which was excellent!

Surprisingly good vegan Ramen - Edit
Food can be ordered at the vending machine in front if the restaurant. The menu is available in English as well and the vegan Ramen is clearly labelled. Extra items can be added. The broth is richly flavoured, slightly spicy and the whole Ramen is well balanced. Price currently at around 1000 yen. My friends also enjoyed their non-vegan Ramen, so also perfect for a group of mixed eaters.

Small shop close to the pedestrian streets of central Beppu. It seemed to be visited by locals as well as tourists - and I quickly understand why it was popular. This is the best ramen I’ve had in my life, and best meal in Japan! If I ever go back to Beppu, I will eat this ramen every day! 😍

I’ve tried many vegan ramens in my life and this one is the third best (which is really great). It’s worth a visit while you’re in Beppu. I appreciated the English menu and specific vegan option. There’s only one vegan option but it’s really creamy, flavourful and delicious.

While the Ramen taskes good the price is higher than all other options while it has very limited topings. While I could live with that my problem was more that after the Ramen I was still hungry. I ordered more noodles and than it was kind of ok. But if you are really hungry this might not be your place.
