Tofu lover this is your place 😋 - Edit
We tried the seven different tofu menu wich includes rice and pickles and we really enjoyed it. It is a traditional way to try an amazing quality tofu cooked in different ways. The place is 100% Japanese style and the staff were super friendly. I highly recommend you to try it.

Un repas rempli de nouvelles saveurs avec du tofu cuisiné de multiples manières ! Le restaurant se situe dans une rue des plus touristique et pourtant, lorsque nous sommes rentrés à l'intérieur nous étions seuls. Une gentille dame nous a alors accueilli et présenté les options végétariennes et végétaliennes du menu. Je recommande 🤝

When I said I was vegan the lovely lady pointed out the options for me. I think I had the boiled tofu with 3 pieces of tofu. It was interesting to try tofu in so many different ways but you need to like tofu - I could have taken or left the boiled tofu. Really generous portion and it's run by what looks like a group of female home cook friends. Enjoyed the experience.

You should announce on arrival if you're vegetarian/vegan. They do take this seriously. They told me the following dishes were suitable for a vegetarian and did not contain fish/dashi. You can cross check this to the menu photos. NB I would also ask whether the soy sauce contains dashi as this comes in certain dishes.

The restaurant itself had a lovely traditional vibe and was staffed with friendly and welcoming older ladies. There's also a tatami area if you prefer to sit here.
Pretty good value for what you get, and you are provided with complimentary matcha tea (I even got a refill!). The fried tofu (agedashi) was delicious.
It might be cash only. I didn't ask to use a credit card.

There are 3 vegan tofu sets available. We had the fried tofu. It was so delicious. The food was fresh and great quality. We loved it! Also the staff was super friendly.

Super friendly people running this place. The first thing they asked was if anyone in our party was vegetarian or vegan. Two of the options on the menu were actually vegan and they made sure that we received the correct plating. We had a lovely lunch here and I would definitely come back!

The whole experiece was delightful. The owners are two old japanese women, who are just lovely. They explained to us which dishes contained fish (dashi) and which were vegetarian/vegan. The restaurant is just beautiful and the food was very yummy.

Many different kinds of tofu sets on offer. We had the dengaku set and the goma-tofu set. Absolutely delicious. Traditional style-restaurant with both western seating and tatami area. English menu available. Sets are around ¥1000.

It was fun to try so many different types of tofu. I enjoyed some of them and was less keen on others but was excited to eat types of tofu I’d never seen before. It was surprisingly filling and the rice that came with the tofu was delicious. The women who served us were lovely and it was a great experience having lunch in a traditional old building in a historic district. I recommend the experience, but I probably wouldn’t eat here all the time as I like a bit more vegetable with my tofu...

Tofu is not really my favorite kind of dish, but we were agreeably surprised by this restaurant. Every kind of tofu is well thought, they have a large panel of taste. Also we would not eat there everyday, it was a pleasant experience.

Read moreI liked a lot that you don't have to choose a specific tofu, especially because I don't knew much about diffrent kinds, so it was very nice to taste the diffrent flavours.
I ate at an Temple later, zhe food from the buddhist monks was really equal to this restaurant so I really can recomment it for those who want to find out, how special they can combine diffrent heavy flavours with the decent taste of many kinds of tofu.
Pros: You don't have to choose- you taste diffrent types, Restaurant is in 'shop' district -good location

If you love tofu, you are in the right place : you will eat only this! Very good and authentic meals, tasty and very different from one plate to another. You can also have cold or hot meals. They also offer green tea when you arrive.

We enjoyed a nice tofu lunch prepared by three lovely ladies. It consisted of rice, soup with tofu skin, two different kinda of tofu and one meal was with sesame tofu and the other with agedashi tofu. It was very flavorful and freshly prepared.

A unique experience in Takayama. The ladies cooking and serving are so kind and the tofu that we ate was so delicious. The place is located in the main touristic street so the building is a historical gem.
