Marvelous experience - Edit
We booked ahead quite a bit, worrying we wouldn't get seats but when we arrived, we were the only ones dining there that evening.
Read moreThe service was exceptional, the English understandable, and the food and drinks very enjoyable.
We were severely underdressed for the occasion, but it was pouring rain outside and we didn't fully know how nice the place would be. But they did not seem to mind.
As it was our honeymoon, they brought out the last course on a special platter celebrating us and were all so sweet to cheer for us.
And they even took us back to our Ryokan by car after we were done.
Would give 5 stars, but only 4 are possible on HC.
Pros: The service, The food, The ambience
Cons: One of the desserts was a bit too big

Should Have Michelin Star - Edit
If you are looking for a vegan fine dining experience, this is it. The only place I've experienced to match it is FIEF in Paris. We had elite service, there was a 9 course vegan prefix, and the subtle flavors were culinary artistry.
Read moreOur favorites were the warm vegetable salad, the tofu, the amuse bouche, and the risotto. The turnip soup was unexpected and didn't look particularly like much, but it has beautiful flavor! The only course that needed some work was the pasta bolognese. The handmade pasta was to die for, but would have been better served with vegetables. The tofu dish was heavenly - lightly crispy on the outside white soft and savory on the inside.
Someone else said they had an issue with the reservation - we experienced none of that. This was an elite and memorable dining experience from start to finish. Excellent value and impeccable service.
Pros: Exquisite food, Elevated service and atmosphere, Fine vegan dining in a beautiful Japanese town

Unreliable reservations - Edit
We were told Ricca needed a three-day advance notice for vegans but when we tried to reserve three days in advance they told us they couldn’t serve us. It was unclear why.
Read moreI’m sure the food is great if you can get in, but it’s aggravating that the rules are apparently different for vegans vs non-vegans. It is possible to reserve only one day in advance for non-vegans. We walked up our first day in town to reserve for our last and we’re offered an Omni meal for the next day but told vegans couldn’t be accommodated. Oh well.
Pretty place, though! If you reserve in advance you’ll probably like it, and since Kinosaki Onsen is a little brutal for vegans, it’s worth going out of you way to reserve.

Amazing 10 course vegan meal - Edit
Highly recommend this place! You must pre-book by emailing the hotel directly. We dined here without staying at the hotel, which worked for us (as most onsens in the area do not offer a in-room veggie meal)
Read moreWe had a beautiful 10 course vegan meal for around £90 each, which we thought was 100% worth it given the service and the quality of the food.
