Average food, subpar procedures

My wife and I ordered the Tofu Home Style dish and the Vegetable Lo Mein, as well as Edimame. It was OK, not great. She thought it was not good at all and had an "artificial" flavor to it, which is intertesting because when we called to see if the vegetable dishes used fish or chicken sause/broth, they said "no, it is artificial flavoring". The dishes were indeed vegan though.

The restaurant was freezing. I have been in chilly airconditioned restaurants but this was over the top cold. You would think they'd want to spend less money on electricity- 1/2 the AC would still have done the job.

The server came to our table ready to take our order and my wife said she needed to ask a couple of questions. The server immediately left and waited on another table before coming back several minutes (at least) later. That seemed pretty rude The food came- 2 entrees, edimame and rice. There were no serving spoons. Getting sauce off onto your plate with a fork is not doable. The server brought plates, the smallest plate I've ever seen in a restaurant. It was literally no bigger than a saucer used for a coffee cup. It was impossible to put 2 entres (even very small servings) and rice on this "plate" without mixing it all together, which I don't do. We had to ask for 2 more plates and, to be honest, with the rice we really needed 3 plates apiece. Why would any restaurant not have a normal plate? The server said that was all they had. However, the entrees came on real sized plates. Why not use those for plates to eat on?

After the meal, it took so long for someone to come to the table to take our credit card that we had to go to the register and wait for someone come.
So, all in all, if we were looking for vegan food and there were no other choices, Ni's would be passable. But there are other really good Chinese restaurants in Tucson with a good selection of vegan dishes.

A Gastronomic Disappointment

My husband and I ordered edamame, the Tofu Homestyle, and the Vegetable Lo Mein. The food tasted artificial. It did not taste fresh at all.
The Lo Mein tasted like sugary noodles. It did not contain many vegetables, but there were a few broccoli florets.
The Tofu Homestyle came with veggies in a brown sauce. Most of the veggies were the little corns and mushrooms. There were a few slivers of carrot (possibly 3 or 4 slivers), and a few 1/4 slices of zucchini. The flavor was different than at other Chinese restaurants. Adding soy sauce did help the flavor some.
The edamame tasted like old oil, not rancid but not good. It was the best and most fresh tasting dish even though the flavor of oily salt detracted from that.
The service was not great, but I have had worse. When the waitress came and asked if we were ready to order, we said that we had questions. She immediately left us to go to other tables. It took quite a while before she returned. She did check in on us a few times, but after she brought us the check, she did not return. After about 10 minutes of waiting I got up and walked over to the register to pay. Another person took my payment.
The waitress did not seem to know what vegan was, but although she seemed a little put off by questions and a bit disinterested, she did seem to know what was in the food. I know there is another review that seems to describe a totally different experience. Perhaps it depends on who you get?
There were no serving spoons for the dishes. The plates were tiny and they gave us only one each. My husband asked if they had bigger plates and she said no. We asked for an additional plate.
We left a lot of food uneaten and did not take anything home with us. I have no desire to eat there again.

Pros: Prices were decent, Good location, Serving size was plentiful

Cons: Few veggies in the food, Food did not taste good or feel good to the body, No serving spoons and only tiny plates

Lots of vegan choices

The vegan (and gluten free) choices are well labeled and our waiter was very knowledgeable about what was vegan. They even have gluten free soy sauce.

Pros: Many choices, Veggie roll very good

Cons: Food a little bland
