Disappointing!

This cafe has had a very good reputation for many years in Wellington. So when five of my friends, non-vegans went for lunch today I thought I’d join them. I was told there was two vegan options for a main lunch dish. Turned out there was only one, the second option the waiter told me was a typo that said it could be vegan. So I was left with a vegan adaptation of a rice dish where the smoked fish was replaced by mushrooms. It was highly expensive and I really didn’t feel like trusting it. There was no vegan cabinet food either. No one seem to know anything about vegan options or to be interested in catering for me at all so I ended up having a coffee and going elsewhere for lunch when my friends finished. Incredibly disappointing in this time when most restaurants will be inventive and have two or three vegan options on their menu. Not simply taking out a meat ingredient so it becomes vegan but actually creating interesting individual dishes. We have so many good vegan options available in other restaurants I’d strongly suggest that you try them if you’re vegan. Nikau has to come up to speed and when it does, I’m sure all the many vegans will be happy to try their food.

Pros: Nice courtyard

Cons: Expensive , One main vegan option

Very limited options

Nice cafe where you can sit in the sun. Unfortunately they only have two vegan options on the menu and won't let you swap ingredients (like eggs for mushrooms). You have to pay for the "added" ingredients. Staff are friendly but sounds like the chefs are not accommodating.
They used to have a lot more vegan options.

Pros: Nice setting , A couple of vegan options

Cons: Inflexible and expensive
