Large onigiris - Edit
We were very happy to find Nigirimeshi Ginka open late at night for a snack. The place was packed at 10 p.m. on a Friday night, but we got squeezed in to the bar. There's both outdoor and indoor sitting.
Read moreWe tried 4 onigiris: lavel boiled in soy sauce, pickled plum, mustard leaf, red pickled ginger. All came out fresh. As a result, don't expect this to be like a 711 onigiri where you pick it up and you're ready to start eating. We weren't keeping track of time, but I reckon it may have taken about 10 minutes between ordering and getting the round of onigiris (we made 2 orders). They also have pickles which are vegan to go along with sake.
Onigiris are simple, and I love rice, so I was poised to love them already, but these were seriously delicious. Perfectly cooked rice, good toppings, and I appreciated the radish that came with them as an extra snack.

Delicious Hand-Made Onigiri - Edit
I was excited to see this shop pop up on Happy Cow before my trip to Morioka. I have been to Morioka 2 times, but there are not so many shops that you can just go in casually without a reservation and get vegan food. This shop is just what we needed! You can eat in or take out. It's not expensive and the quality is very high! There are lots of vegan options and they are clearly marked on the menu. They even have vegan certified sake from local Iwate maker Nanbu Bijin!
Read moreThis time we were able to try their plant-based miso soup which was not yet on the menu. They are planning to add it to the menu in the near future possibly along with some additional vegan onigiri flavors!
I will definitely come again next time I visit Morioka. Yum!

VEGAN ONIGIRI Absolutely - Edit
Here, I was able to eat vegan rice balls made with carefully selected rice. Japanese rice is chewy and delicious. The staff were very understanding about veganism and the meals were delicious. Highly recommended for those coming to Morioka.
